- In this video named: Rotator Cuff Tear PT Evaluation with Rotator Cuff Special Tests I show you a rotator cuff tear PT evaluation on a patient with a fairly recent rotator cuff tear. Here I demonstrate the following rotator cuff special tests:
✅ +Empty Can Test
✅ -Lift-off Test
✅ -Belly Press Test
✅ -Bear Hug Test
✅ +Hornblower's Test
This patient had a full cervical spine clearing to rule out nerve root compression. Normal DTR's, = sensation, = distal MMT, - Spurling's, - c-spine compression.
Biceps is intact. No palpable tenderness. Neg apprehension sign, neg Speed's test.
💥Biggest findings: Positive special tests above. Severe weakness with pain for shoulder ER, Flex, ABD.
❓❓ Other differentials would be shingles, suprascapular nerve injury, adhesive capsulitis.
Hey!!! Shoot a big thanks out to John for volunteering to show everyone his shoulder evaluation. Thanks.

love these videos! I'm in PT school and these videos are super helpful for a quick review during clinicals!
I’m in PT school and I absolutely love these videos!
Awesome video, thank you so much for it!
👍👍👍 Wishing a happy healthy and prosperous New Year to you and your family.
Hi I'm physiotherapist from India another great video keep posting
I have the exact same problems as this patient after a traumatic accident. My orthopedic doctor is getting me some EMG testing as he suspects nerve damage.
I was just diagnosed with tendinosis in my supraspinatus and infraspinatus. I also have popping in the back of my shoulder and the side of my upper arm/shoulder. I have been told that popping in normal with tendinosis and I have been told no, that there is something else going on causing the problem. Does tendinosis cause popping?
what if I have all these symptoms but I have no weakness but poor internal rotation?
another great video
But I wish you did show the tests
empty can, horn blower, belly press, bear hug, lift-off are all included. I have a majority of the most used shoulder tests here: ua-cam.com/play/PL_jx_nSzcqqEIGEcDh4Dbx4qM3kSIj5uD.html
@Ortho Eval Pal with Paul Marquis PT you're correct but I meant the ones you didn't show
But I love it
Another great video
Keep up the excellent work
👍👍
"And then ahhh go from there.." Yes, from there doctor you hit the shit out of the cash register. Why don't they offer STEM cell treatment for shoulder injuries?
What are shingles
Roofing material
Varicella zoster, the chickenpox virus. It’s a retrovirus, meaning it lives in the DNA of your cells forever, and during times of high stress or immune compromise, you can have an outbreak. It never crosses the line of summery on your body, and it’s a very painful attack on the nerves that is a accompanied by rash.
This is from memory so if I’m wrong, sue me. ;)
Looks like slap lesion type 2
It's looks like a rotator cuff tear but are you sure that the orthopedic will refered him back to you if surgery is not needed
I have actually seen 3 people with mri diagnosed RCT's in the last two months who were scheduled for surgery and were able to cancel it. Doesn't happen often but some will do well despite the cuff tear.
@OrthoEvalPal hello doc, couple of days ago i played armwrestling and now i have some loss of strenght on pull ups and a dull ache in the front of the shoulder.I have no loss of range of motion, but less strenght on internal rotation.I thought its okay to workout, but now its a bit worse. Do you think some ice, 2 weeks rest and a couple of tb 500 injections will fix it?
By the way pull ups aggravate it way more than push ups.Any idea?
How would you treat a rotator cuff tear?
no like it
