- www.RepairsUniv... - This video guide will walk you through the full take apart of the Google Nexus 7 2nd Generation. The disassembly will show the process of removing the back cover, the battery, motherboard, and all other small components within the Nexus 7 2. www.repairsuniv...
Finished! This is the first time I've taken apart a tablet or cell phone, and it took me almost seven hours. The single biggest chunk of work was getting the old screen out of the bezel, which took me over two hours. More advice on that would be beneficial. Also, running through the reassembly would be helpful.
However, I have to say I'm really pleased with the quality of this instructional video, it was a tremendous help. The people at Repairs Universe where helpful and efficient. I chatted with a sales/tech rep before buying the digitizer & screen assembly, and their advice was valuable. I was going to buy just the digitizer and glass, but they talked me into buying the complete screen assembly. I was unsure whether they were just trying to sell me the more expensive part, but after having been through this, I'm *very* glad I listened to them!
Thanks for this video. My Nexus 7 (2013) developed a memory issue that required me to replace the motherboard. Your video got me back up and running in no time at all.
Glad to hear we could help. Thank you for the support!
It's possible that the speaker has become loosened from its secure placing within the device. You may want to attempt opening up your device and making sure the speaker is firmly in place.
You are missing the hardest part and the "last steps." Removing/replacing the screen from the housing/bezel. I have not found anyone, including your own website, that sells the screen assembly pre-mounted to the housing/bezel nor do you even sell the 2 sided mounting tapes or housing/bezel by itself.
ifm12009 If you have any issues with your repair, our technicians will gladly walk you through it. We have the double sided adhesive on our site for 2.99 and we are constantly adding parts to our inventory, so expect the housing to be added in the near future. Usually most of our customers already have the bezel and are just looking for the screen.
+ Kenneth Brickland You're welcome. We are doing our best to upload as many videos as possible. We'll share these details with our video production team. At the moment we do not have any recommendations on the battery, I do apologize.
So I need to replace my battery do I do the same thing but only remove and replace the battery nothing else? If not could you explain it. Also where to get a new battery. Thank for helping out.
As always, very clear and detailed explanations. Great stuff!
Thanks very much! Glad we could help!
"Unfortunately you will want to replace both the LCD and touch screen digitizer. It is extremely difficult and close to impossible to replace only the touch screen". But you sell the digitizer separately as well (item 12-G-1130). Why is that? For the stubborn and adventurous?
Vytautas Rudzianskas We sell the glass for cell phone repair shops that have the machinery to recycle the LCD.
Sorry sir, but I don't understand your question. Could you please rephrase it?
One warning that would be useful right at the beginning: I mistook the location of the seam you're trying to open the thing along. I thought it was right at the end of the glass. I chipped the glass (which is just garbage anyway, but causes glass slivers to fly around) as I was trying to pry loose the glass itself. There is a small plastic bezel attached to the glass. You want to pry between that bezel and the main body, not between the glass and the bezel!
+rod van meter Lol i did this too.... ............... wasn't replacing the glass......... replacing a part on mobo... sigh.....
First, if the device has an expandable SD card slot, you could simply remove the SD card which holds data. Or perhaps try connecting the device to a computer using a USB cable. If the computer recognizes the device you might be able to recover data that way.
Unfortunately you will want to replace both the LCD and touch screen digitizer. It is extremely difficult and close to impossible to replace only the touch screen. We have the combination screen (touch screen + LCD) available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
were can you buy a replacement for the lower motherboard?
Ah ok, now I understand your question. It's most likely that the pressure that was applied when it was stepped on caused some sort of reboot generated by the motherboard. It shouldn't happen anymore, as long as it's no longer stepped on! :)
In some of our videos the device does have damage prior to the repair, just not in this one. Sorry about that.
Thanks!
By module do you mean the screen assembly? If so, visit RepairsUniverse (dot) com for the part.
Thank you so much. Really helpful. Finally I removed the back cover.
When releasing the clip at 3:02. i accidentally pried the whole clip and housing away. is there a way to reconnect it using some adhesive or is it pretty much donezo. i am referring to the black clip and white jaw clip. if possible. maybe i can send you some pictures via email and you can properly assist me. Thanks bro
I dropped my nexus 7(screen spider web, sill works slightly, there are 2 holes i can see the motherboard through) and i want to back it up. Not showing up in windows 8, is there any recommendation you have for me?
The only way you could back it up would be to remove the memory modules, which wouldn't be wise at all.
We certainly will.
Oh, and one really critical piece of advice: remove your SIM card and the tray for it before opening the case! I'm an idiot, and didn't, and I bent the SIM case. I was worried that I had ruined it, but luckily I didn't. But a word to the wise -- be smart and take it out.
Sorry, what I was trying to say is, my toddler stepped on our Nexus 7 second generation back down the other day and the unit restarted itself. It works fine but I just want to know why it would restart itself all connections are tight and there is no loose pieces inside.
If there 29,000 hits on this video - this only means that there is a serious defect with this product.
A little.. But I'm sure you're not alone.
I have a question, my toddler stepped on our Nexus 7 and this second generation the other day 45 connection back down 3d it try to restart it out itself. Michael here inside job
Unfortunately, there are some clumsy ones.. Cheers!
I was wondering if the inductive charging built into the battery? Electromagnetic current going into some sort of coil in the battery?
Hi, my Nexus 7 2013 heats on the top back part near the camera while the lower part is not. The distribution of heat is not even. It's bothering me because sometimes it's so hot to touch. It's weird because the battery is not located there. What do you think?
Same here, I don't play online games, just watching UA-cam, why is it heating up just on the upper part near the camera, please reply? Thank you.
IT is possible if we change the camera sensor with the other one (i.e. with galaxy s4 sensor or any other cameraphone sensor)
i replaced my nexus 7 2013 daughterboard because i had broken the old one, but now the touchscreen doesn't work anymore. What may be the problem?
Farkran Can you confirm what you replaced? You may need a new LCD and Touch screen digitizer assembly.
This is a great video, I used the information from your tutorial to swap my 16gb nexus motherboard for my 32gb. The 16gb works great, but the 32gb's screen was broken (just like in this video). I was worried about taking my working tablet apart, but after watching this video, and seeing the correct way to dissect my nexus. I was successful in replacing the 16 with the 32. This video is much appreciated. The best out there by far, it sucks watching videos without the commentary. Thank you.
Please be careful using a blade to lever with!! They can easily shatter and shoot off, potentially into you...
My tablet fell multiple times on the charging port while charging. It would charge if the the USB cable was bent but now doesn't charge at all. With that now the screen is completely unresponsive.
Same thing happened to mine. Ya just gotta replace the port itself.
Why didnt i watch this one. I watched another video and he didnt take any parts out. Anyway replaced the screen but iv damaged the golden flex cable thing so i cant attach it (by the battery connetion). Is this the main cause why my new screen doesnt come on? Also the bottom of the screen it flashes white (when you have a notification) thats why im asking
Any damage to the ribbon cables will cause issues. Sounds like that is the reason for the issue. Sorry to hear the news.
Hi, I dropped my Nexus 7. The screen is shattered badly but the digitizer is fine. I cannot use it because of the screen. How do I remove only the screen?
The screen is fused to the touch screen. You would have to heat them up taking care not to damage the LCD. We recommend replacing the screen as a complete unit. You can find it here...
www.repairsuniverse.com/google-nexus-7-2-2nd-generation-screen-replacement-repair-parts.html
Hey bro, my microphone isn't working but all things are working fine, how can I fix the mic? How much would it cost me for replacement.
Hey is it possible I have a defected battery unit or damaged one of some sort. It doesn't hold much of a charge wirh serious battery drain with like 10% battery loss at the lowest screen brightness in less than one hour. I'm pretty sure its not a software problem. Is the battery capacity ruined somehow since lithium ion batterys are really fragile.
Hey, thanks for actually showing how to get the very tight back case off. Most other videos just show people using their fingernails to remove it, when it has obviously already been loosened up by repeated removal.
Mine is 2014/4 manufacture, and there are a few subtle differences:
* The battery is held in place by more screws. Removing them reduces the number that have to be removed later.
* The lower speaker connection has moved.
* Important: the upper and lower motherboards are connected via two wires that run along the sides. You probably don't want to mess with those connections, but it's easy to remove both boards as a pair. Tape holds the wires in place along the sides.
* The upper motherboard has an extra screw in the middle, AND right next to that is a plastic clip that comes through from the bezel plate. Be sure to release this when you remove the upper motherboard.
Thank you for the feedback!
Hi,My nexus 7 had water damage about a month ago, when it first dropped in water,i put it in rice for 4 days and took it out and worked 100% perfectly for two weeks. Than one day the battery stopped charging and the tablet died out completely :( but when i plug in the power cable the tablet notification light blinks and the empty battery life come s on. NOW, Is the Tablet NO good? Or perhaps Needs a New battery? Please i need your Input! THANKS!
***** Each water damaged device is a case by case repair. Most likely your battery is shot and corrosion is causing your motherboard to malfunction. A new battery might work, however it will probably short out again due to possible corrosion on the MB. You should open your device and use rubbing alcohol to clean the internal components.
Repairs Universe So i take the WHOLE nexus 7 apart and clean it with Alcohol: is this before i install the new battery? and how many days with the alcohol inside of the device until it drys out? Its like 70% its the batteries problem and/or 30/% its the motherboard? I see batteries on Ebay for 30$ and up, i wonder if its worth it in the long run. Thanks for YOUR input it means so MUCH! And please reply with as much information as possible thanks!
My Nexus 7 has distortion (crackling sound) on the upper speaker. Do I need to take out the entire motherboard to replace the upper speaker? Could I just loosen the upper part and replace the speaker and how?
No there was not.
My daughter's nexus 7 2ndG won't charge, the middle connector(or w/e name) is loose, my guess is that is fcked, well I'm not planning on spending a dime to fix it, I just want it to be able to charge and everything else can be done wirelessly that being said, is there anyway I can connect it to charge, I manage that with a HTC evo 4 years ago, I just aattached 2 cables to the broken charger port and those two to a customized charger... Pretty dumb fix but worked, I might be able to do the same thing now but I want some experience thoughts on the subject, why not spend money?? Well I'm trying to teach my daughter to take care of her shit cuz I'm not aboto to buy her new shit every time, and the insurance is a joke.... Whatever thought some trolls got in the matter about why not spending money will be ignored, get a life trolls... Ty for the serious responses though.
Difficult to confirm what would be best here. The charging port is soldered to the motherboard. I apologize but we would not have any recommendations to fix this on your device.
Hey if you buy a new USB port and simply super glue it on, it works. That's what I did to my nexus 7 2nd gen.
How can one test a digitizer screen to see if it works?
Is their a link socket so can test it on computer or other Nexus 7 - 2013?
All you can do is break the device down and use it for testing.
I dropped my tablet with the headphones plugged in. Now I can't hear out of one of my ears when I play music with my headphones plugged in. Iv got several different pairs of headphones AND different wires and they all have the same problem for my tablet. I can fix this if I lightly bend the headphone wire or push it up. So I know its a tablet problem, is there a way I could take it apart and bend the headphone jack or something to fix this? Thanks.
If you take the back off your unit. You will see the headphone jack. I don't think bending anything will help though. What you have done is damage the grounding rings inside the jack itself. Good Luck!
Difficult to say. May simply need to replace it but unfortunately we do not offer the replacement part.
non removable battery is just stupid.better off buying a new one.will definitely end up damaging the unit trying to pry it apart.

this is very helpful video , would be also good to have a reassemble video thanks ..I may need a new battery any ideas where to obtain one???
is this screen different to the Nexus 7c 2013 ? (SIM card)
Dropped mine in water :( How do you recommend cleaning it out if I can find a way to take it apart?
Doing water damaged is very tricky. Some times it would just need a new battery . While that is very easy to do . Some times you will need to clean out the water corrosion on the flex cables as well as the charging port.
If you see the water corrosion has started to eat away at the cables then its safe to say that the device is lost.
Good luck on your repair.
Hey nice video, I broke the screen taking the Nexus apart, so glad I can replance now. Thank you, Brad
Hi. Just this weekend, my daughter's N7 2 just failed. The screen isn't responding, and now it's just showing all the pixel colours like bunch of fine coloured sand on the glass. Could you provide a link where I can purchase replacement parts. I love this tablet so much an I believe it is still repairable. Thanks for the video.
The display for the nexus 7 2013 is available on our website.
www.repairsuniverse.com/google-nexus-7-2nd-gen-lcd-touch-screen-digitizer-replacement.html
Can anyone tell me where the accelerometer is located?
Fuck it I'll just buy a used one on ebay.
umm. Feel like you left us hanging at the end there. Like a tease. No completion
Got stuck on the dreaded google screen due to a failed motherboard. No matter how many wipes and flashes, could never get past the screen. The motherboard wouldn't even allow me to get into the stock recovery or a flashed recovery. Your video showed a good step by step approach to switch out the motherboard and now my N7 is up and running again. Thank you.
We're glad to hear we were able to help. Thank you for watching!
I have a dead Nexus 7 (got wet) that I'm curious if there's a way to recover anything that was stored on the unit. I did open up the case and dried it out but the unit never fully powered back on. I did have a short period of time with a dimly blinking white light and some screen activity, but now the unit does nothing when power is applied.
Hi. interesting video. Same model as mine which had a mother board replaced under warranty due to intermitant ear phone socket connection. After replacement connection is still sensitive to how far plug is inserted on various phone plugs. In your opinion is this typical as a number of users have commented about problems with ear phone connections
+Keith Walters Possibly a manufacture issue as this should not be common.
Hi, I've gone and had the screen crack in my bag ... very upset! ... Is it possible to replace just the digitizer as the actual LCD screen is fine and intact. If so where can the digitizer be purchased from?
man do people really need to repair their nexus 7 already lol
were is the internal storage you never pointed it out was watching closly as well would like to know if it can be upgraded
That's a good question Alan, unfortunately the internal storage cannot be removed, however, in the future they will have models with that option, it seems they want you to but storage specific models i.e the 8 Gig or the 16 Gig for the time being.
OK thanks for reply
can you change the memory card of your nexus?I mean upgrade from 16-32 for example...please reply..
+Jerome Yudiet No, this would not be possible.
This is an exceptionally good demo. It is a pleasure to watch you. My Nexus 7 (2013) does not seem to hold the battery charge for more than 2-3 hours. Is that normal?
It was always that way and I never dropped it. Thanks.
No, not at all. The battery may be giving out on you. A battery should last about 1-2 years depending on the usage. Unfortunately we do not offer battery replacements.
Repairs Universe 1-2 years!? Is that it
Correct and it honestly varies on the usage. But roughly 1-2 years is about right.
Great choice for a 7 inch tablet. Good for reading and browsing, maybe small if you are looking to watch movies.
*Get it here!*## amzn.to/QmFMPO
Great video, but how do I get the screen out? My wife already dropped it and cracked it before the case got here.
dislike becuase u need to show how to re assemble it!
Hey, my top speaker seems to work only when I put some presure on it, can someone give me an advice ?
Thanks
wow that looks easy
wow the device came out for like 1 week and they got a repair video.....this shitt brake down it like 2 seond?
Where can I bye screen module for it? Thanks.
Let us know when you get parts.
Which part is the hard drive?
Hard drive? lol , tablets do not have hard drives, they use flash memory.
All good, thank you
nicely done !!
Thank you for this !
+Craig Slater You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Lol already
Heya, The best guide that I have checked out was on Volt daddy (i did a google) Probably the most useful info on batteries and this kind of gear that i have found.
