Did you know if you dry hydrangeas upside down they will retain their original vibrant colors? Just tie a string to the stem & hang from a kitchen cabinet pull or something. Gravity will push the remaining color to the petals & the drying process will lock it in. I’ve had some for years that still look fresh.
Thanks for another great video! I’d love to hear your thoughts on fake fruit.

Love what your sister said, the struggle is real! I absolutely love flowers and plants, I just haven’t turned my brown thumb to green yet but I still hope to one day! I do a literal happy dance whenever I find a good fake plant and I don’t care who sees me dancing like a crazy person in the store. They’re essential when you have a husband who gets light-induced migraines, a giant plant-murdering Maine Coon cat, and 3 young kids. 😂

I have a mixture of both. I love using the faux ones that are called "Real Touch", which do feel like the real thing, and then purchasing the coordinating essential oil scent. By placing a drop in the center of the flower it "sells" the look better. Not too much then your home smells like Great Aunt Beatrice's. 😉

I use to dislike anything fake for a very long time. I must say I bought a banana leaf tree a few weeks ago from Target that has been a game changer, it looks REALLY good. I put it in a large white basket. I have tall ceilings and it looks very real. I am surprised by Pottery Barns fake plants too. The prices are high and they don’t look very good. Once in a great while, I have found very realistic flowers that I’ve bought, also a game changer. The tulips at Kirkland’s are amazing. Thanks for sharing, and I love that your son cares about your shirt matching your video, LOL!🌺🌺🌺

I have quite a few fake plants for several reasons. First of all, when I moved into my current apartment, my real ones died. I realized later that the only good light I have coming in my apartment is from a window on my door in my room. The other window (yes, my entire apartment only has two windows) doesn't get much light coming through it because it's directly underneath a "roof" which is over the entrance walkway. And of course, both areas are directly in the path of a vent, so there's always air blowing on them and drying them out.
My second major reason is that I have birds in my home, and they are allowed to fly free for several hours a day. While I can generally keep an eye on them, I can't trust entirely that they would not nibble on the plants, and many plants are toxic to birds (along with a million other things - birds are very sensitive!) Thankfully, the room where they fly is the room where I also have the "mostly useless" window which doesn't get very much light.
I've been avoiding real plants for a while now, but recently it occurred to me that I really have no reason to stop having plants altogether-I can opt for tougher plants that won't care as much about a lack of light or water. I recently bought a snake plant, which is considered toxic to birds, but I keep it in my room. It will probably be getting a friend or two. I feel like I've forgotten how delightful real plants can be! A fake plant is just a decor piece-it has no soul, but I definitely feel a different "energy" from my real plant! I think it's just the knowledge that it's a living thing that brings more attention to its existence, and vibrancy to my space that the fake plants in it just don't have!

So much fun ... for some reason, I am not getting nice bigger spots like you did ... I don’t know why. My husband just said that he likes it, though:). The store interaction of buying your "next victims" would TOTALLY be me if I was brave enough to buy plants in the first place! I have ADHD and know I would fail to consistently care for plants which makes the interaction of "no..." "YES" so very relatable for me. I stumbled upon this video looking for fake plant ideas because I recently bought a house that has large flower beds lining the front of the house and don't wish to turn them into eye sores of dead plants that I end up neglecting. Just found your channel but I am already subscribing because you made me laugh so hard with relatability in reenacting that plant store interaction. Love it and already love your energy. Can't wait to watch the rest of the video, and more of your content, to discover how I can incorporate fake plants into the exterior and interior of my home and possibly learn about keeping lower maintenance plants?! I’ve finally subscribed to your channel but I’ve been watching and loving your videos for many months now- however I usually watch you on my smart tv and it only shows the video in full and leaves out the comments and ability to follow you (I’m writing this on my iPhone).
Let me first say I find your enthusiasm and ideas so infectious and enjoyable! Love your honesty too- about life overseas when husband was sick and you all felt a bit down but friends were unaware and jealous.
Right onto faux versus real plants issue. IMHO real plants always work best but sometimes due to lack of sunlight in a room I use fakes but only succulents tend to come close to looking real.
The spiky fake plant you had was a Yukka plant knock off.
I also love dead branches- tortured willow (yes very 80’s).

PS: Loving your use of black on walls.

I love the tabletop Christmas pines so much that I am leaving them out in clusters, non-decorated. The quality of the injection-molded spruce branches is realistic enough and the wire structure can be bent to mimic organic asymetry.
Also love my boxwood pilar candle rings--easy to submerge and clean with dish soap. Lack of dust adds to the realism.
Quantity sometimes adds to realism, if not abundance. I like to check for realistic flowers at Dollar Tree. When I get a dozen stems with 5 flowers each, that's 60 flowers with some leaves that can look rather nice all fluffed and arranged in a basket. It is even possible to order Dollsr Tree flower stems by the dozen and they are not as "handled" as the stems in the store. I have done the same thing with stem from Michael's.
I also like the quality of potted greenery from IKEA, Wayfair and Michael's.

Eileen Carroll ooh! I haven’t thought to check Wayfair for faux! But you are right about IKEA if you don’t mind braving the drive (it’s 35 minutes without traffic, who knows with!) and I thought the dust added to the reality! 😉 😂 😘

I found a couple of silk spider plants in my travels for my Dad's house, they looked so real my grandmother clipped babies off them to start her own. It broke my heart to have to tell her that they weren't real. She refused to believe me and we had to get rid of them because she kept watering them and they got covered in mold. Succulents are really good option for houseplants they require little care and I have white grow lights I use for them in the place of lighting in some areas. Also Mother in Law Tongue requires light but it stays in a room with no sunlight at all in the winter months and goes out on our deck during the warmer months. I have also kept Pothos and Philodendron they require diffused lighting and do well in most indirect light and are very forgiving.

Movement is give away, along with straight trunks and stems, and crazy little nubs at the ends.Bending helps but nubby ends? Funny tip: buy a beautiful mister and set it in the grouping.

Saucers under pots for large live plants floor plants are such a struggle for me! I need saucers big enough to really catch water because these guys are large. What I end up with usually doesn’t match the shape or vibe of the planters I like - minimalist and / or terra-cotta mostly. The clear plastic saucers get grimey looking - but I do tend to use them. I’ve actually gone to the auto parts store and gotten oil pans - they are the only thing deep enough - just not super cute
The pot inside a pot can be tricky for scale - height but I do that too. I sure wish I could find a swanky planter supplier that really understands that the saucer really matters! Ideas? Ps - I need to water a good bit. Thanks!

Omg. So funny. I love plants and have a green thumb but I have done areas in my house that are not very bright (my dining room) so in searching for a faux plant for my room, I was getting disgusted. I'm like you I could point out everything wrong with a faux plant.
I do agree with you about flowers as well. You can't go fake with flowers.
Your video was wonderful and I enjoyed it!

For the very last plant in the vase wich made routes, you should either plant that into soil or put it into a larger vase otherwise it will get route rot and die. And for all of the plant cuttings in water the water should be changed every 2/3 weeks ish to keep them happy

I always dislike fake plants in home....however, now I have sciatica and not moving heavy ass plants anymore. I'll invest in large fake plants soon.

Ha! This is great! You can also mix fakes with real plants. I will set fake succulents in pots inside large pots of real plants, just because they're prettier than the dirt (and lighter than rocks)....AND, I've been known to wander from the painting studio to smear a little brown or yellow paint on a fake to make it appear more realistic. All this adds up to: you can never have too many plants...

I have to stick up for people like me that have to have faux flowers. I am actually allergic to EVERYTHING that grows. I've tried to have plants and flowers in my house but I just end up sneezing all the time. I just need to know where to get really good faux flowers. I love the way flowers look but real will never be an option for me. So, no I'm not ashamed of faux flowers in my house but I really would like to have a better version of faux. Any suggestions?

I love the dark colors of your walls! We have a family room with two enormous windows that would look fantastic painted a dark color. In the next year, we want to sell the house. Would you recommend painting rooms in dark colors if they want to sell? I love, love, love your videos. They are such fun and so informative too!

Youd need a thick forest in your room to have significant effect on air aquality.
Plants are pretty and may even leave you feeling positive after seeing. This is the noticeable contribution it has for the house.
