I think there’s been variations of shabby chic and it is definitely still around. I think that a lot of people have modernized shabby shake, but still love the soft feminine vintage elements of another big element of is over stuffed furniture…. This element is meant to give a very comfortable cozy laid-back feeling, and modernizes when paired with a good deal of vintage items.
I’ve been decorating in Shabby Chic style since1990. You can have gold ornate picture frame. However, it would most likely be painted white. As a true Shabby Chic woman I paint every piece of furniture white & distress it. Don’t have to distress every thing but the main thing is that it’s white or light creamy colored. Also, beaded garlands are not originated from Shabby Chic decor. I believe that’s more farm house style.
For me shabby chic is more of an extreme reaction to the rigid victorian, academic or to the patriarchal society. So i would say that the vintage books or the big trunks don't belong here. They are used in a shabby chic space but transformed - decoupaged on to with paper or shabby fabrics. Covers from pastel papers or even floral wallpapers. The wood is always distressed, painted over, never the real colour. The iron decorations are also painted and distressed. I guess that's why is always so tiring to be in a shabby chic space (even if the colours are very toned down) - no contrast and almost kitschy, because of the many many florals and flourishes, ruffles and pastel colourful everything.
Love the video. I would only add vintage hat boxes :)
The color gold makes everything look and feel and know that it is rich. 🎉
I have in display most of the items listed I guess that makes me a shabby chic lover
It's so weird being old enough to see the return of shabby chic. 😂 I wasn't the biggest fan the first time around but I like a lot of these ideas.
Like the tin signs❤
Shabby chic has never left
I agree with you on buying new rugs lol
