This is the RAREST Vz. 58 Rifle: The Vz. 58 Sport

- In this episode of TFBTV, @JamesReeves interviews Mr. Stanislav Strizic, an engineer for CZ and a member of the design and testing team for the original CZ-75. Mr. Strizic designed a competition version of the Vz. 58 which was never commercially released, thus, only two prototypes exist.
The Vz. 58, or Vzor 58, is a rifle that was developed in the late 1950s in Czechoslovakia. Despite its visual similarity to the Soviet AK-47, it features a unique design and operation mechanism. The Vz. 58 uses a short-stroke gas piston system, differing from the AK-47's long-stroke gas system, and has a distinct locking system where the bolt locks into the receiver. It fires the 7.62×39mm cartridge. Notable for its relatively lightweight construction, achieved through the use of aluminum alloy in various parts, the Vz. 58 was adopted by the Czechoslovak military in 1958.

Old people having random people sign their prototype gun is surprisingly in-character
LOL
Kayfabe
Like WTF 😂
If you see Randy Jackson at the mall, and you only have a katana to sign, you’re not going to not get his signature...
theres so much on this gun that was ahead of its time, dual optics, see through scope mount, gas tube mounted optic, 45 degree safety, kinda crazy.
How old?
@@IWillSmurfYou VZ58 = 1958. Many gun names indicate the year they entered production.
@@TheeRedBaronthat doesn't mean this specific build is from 1958. That red dot is no more than 30 years old.
@@IWillSmurfYouthe shooting sports like ipsc got into czechoslovakia after the velvet revolution so this is most likely from 90s
You should dig for the cz 958, it was developed by CZ and a Canadian supplier Wolverine supply. It festured a full top picarini rail.
James, you live quite the coveted life style. Never stop being you and providing such awesome content!
Love this man, my grandad worked for CZ back in his day at the Bruno factory so to see some of this content is really nice
than you should know how to spell Brno
@@paulmitchell4421auto correct got him just before he hit send.
I'm so proud to see this Czech legend here on the Channel. And I can say that the translation is so accurate. Anyway the funny part lost in translation is that this gun bought his wife, so Mr. Střižík said it's actually her gun and after all those changes he made ob that gun, he won with this beauty first competition even against M4 which didn't work that well at that event 😁 Thanks for this video. It's a Gem! ❤️🇨🇿
I would not be so sure about his wife buying it. He's saying he got and made the gun for himself, then gave it to his son and THIS ONE bought his wife, which could also imply he's pointing to another gun off the camera (it was stated at the beginning that there are 2 guns of this type in existence). So it's a matter of interpretation.
Anyway, I was going to the comment section to mention exactly what was left untranslated and I found it important. So thanks for doing that!
@@ladislavlencucha You are right, thanks for adding those details, Láďo! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
As much as I appreciate Jeff Cooper’s innumerable contributions to the firearms community, this is a better “scout rifle” than anything Cooper came up with
Czech that out.
You win
Everything with Czechs and balances.
Get out 😂😂😂
Lmao best comment
As a czech person, I enjoy czeching comments like this one.
Feels like something straight out of Metal Gear Solid V
yeah it really looks cool
OK this is too crazy for me not to subscribe. Hope to see more "bubbanized" stuff from all corners of the World.
Greetings from Czechia.
What a cool, rare find! Sure, we wouldn't build one that way today but the fact that there were only 2 made and we get to see 1 of them is awesome. That muzzle break appears to be very effective as the recoil in the video seems very light
Fym? I would love a left hand charge rifle, safety, etc all these are great features
actually mr. Střižík said in the video, that first version of this muzzle break was "too strong" for his perception, so he had to modified it to not push down so much xD
Brother it’s so nice that you are bringing weapons that us normal people would never get the chance to experience and also that you are being a great diplomat for all of us to them you are making america look good to other countries thank you
Ian McCollum thinking "this was supposed to be me!“
Probably the most wholesome vid James has ever done. Although I have a feeling the whole tone of the video/interview would have been different if he had been wearing his short shorts...
Old boy prolly woulda refused to talk to him all together LoL
I love that scope. I like the very plain, unpretentious smooth tubes.
A rifle so unbelievably ugly it's actually cool again. And that slow-mo footage of James shooting it; with the barrel harmonics, the unique deflector design, that's some Czech kino for sure.
This is by far my favorite video y'all have done. Holy crap man, this is awesome
That autograph on the stock is from Bernie Shaw, singer of Uriah Heep.
As much as I love the vz. 58 and have respect for the men who designed it - let's be honest, those are some hack job modifications.
If they were done by any other guy, you'd have cursed him off the range for defiling an original 858 that way.
I knew someone would figure out the signature. Thanks!
Awesome interview. Thank you.
Good job on pronouncing Mr Strizik’s name 👍👍👍
As the owner of a first generation CZ-75 since 1979 (made in 1978, five digit serial №), it was fascinating to see one of the designers. I am also a new owner of a VZ-58V (Airborne), converted to semi-auto by KSK. I really like pan Strizic's moving of the safety/selector to the left side. Our Range/Safety officer also appreciates the bolt hold open on the VZ-58!
That was an awesome video / interview / whatever it was. Thanks for sharing it. Also, I'm envious of that experience.
Damn that rifle is sweet AF
that's a very cool little gun, been meaning to add a vz 58 to the collection for a long time now.
Thank you for showing
Thought that was a PSA logo on the bolt at first glance.
Wow that's awesome. I love both of my VZ-58's. Very cool video James.
I love when people use really old school tec to do concepts, that feel really quite modern
"So I ran into Elton John at the mall, and all I had on me was this VZ-58 so I had him sign it"
Great clip!
Bravo,I always admired the VZ58 it is Very Cool! One of a Kind !
Such a great episode with super guys doing some range time.
"You saved my farm here's the custom gun reward"
Watch the barrel flex when fired in slowmo.
Boys. The signature on the stock belongs to Bernie Shaw from Uriah Heep. Just confirmed with Mr. Strizik's son😂
We almost had something similar in Canada, CZUB and a local importer were working on a custom model called the CZ 958 Hunter and Tactical.
IIRC the vz58 models got banned while they were sitting waiting to clear customs.
7:35 James is only laughing because he didn't get ranslated the part at 6:20 :D
Fun fact James is probably filming that video of the new cz pistol being released and the fact that the older gentleman is there and was on the team that was involved in the cz75 that’s a good hint 👀
Sweet piece
Czech's are such cool people ! great food, beer, world class engineering & the driest sense of humour 🍻
I insist that the Vz58 remains the finest all-around battle rifle ever devised.
lmao
They are Awesome 👍👍
I love my Czechpoint Vz 58 and my Cz 83 . The Czechs are master weapon designers .
cz 82/3 is such an under rated pistol in my opinion. It fixes everything I didn't like about the Makarov, and they are still cheaper than Cheetahs.
awesome content
That is sick 👌
Just love me some Retro-futuristic looking guns
That's pretty cool. 👍
This episode hits a sweet spot 👌 Czechoslovakian firearms
VZ is a very underrated gun
Vz is short for vzor, which means model or type. You basically just said "the M is a very underrated gun".
That was wholesome.
Its like James just met Santa Claus
Sttraight out of Fallout. Love it.
Okay this was a cool video.
What a cool rifle.
imagine the sales if produced commercially
James Reeves from Forgotten Weapons ...
Sweet gem
Just face f**king his glasses in slow mo lol
The barrel whip on this thing is incredible. Cool gun.
Yeah? Watch an AK47....the whole frickin' thing UNDULATES!
@@almaadams3631 yes they do.
That looks bubbed as hell
James's shit eating grin in slow motion says it all. Great video
So many similar expressions to remind of Eugene Stoner...
OG bubba vz58
Hysterical his glasses getting hit every time he shoots
The republic makes insane art
This was so enjoyable that it was frustrating when it ended. Almost as bad as TGC’s abrupt…
The Czech Ruger Mini 14
Awesomeness
So cool
What a cool guy. A world treasure. He needs a statue and some medals and tons of money.
Awesome
cool... i wonder when did he built it.
awesome
Cannot wait to sober up and actually watch watch this! Go JR!
The VZs are Awesome, just so Hard to Find these days.🙄
Is that Cantonement?
Love this shit James. We'll turn you into a cz guy yet.
"let's see if we can get translation"
as a czech first sentence i understood mr stanislav ':
"I had a Czech wife which passed recently" 0:36
He was referring to the autograph.
Bernie Shaw, singer of Uriah Heep, had a Czech wife who passed away in 2023.
I own 2 of the VZ58's and wouldn't sell either for love nor money ! CZ is with out a doubt one of my most favorite firearms ever made and I have several .
My VZ58's took the place of both my Ruger Mini 30 and 14 both and after a bit of fussing around with them and working up a good load for them and installing a match barrel , I can get 3/4-1 " groups at 100 m with match/ my reloaded ammo pretty regularly .
I like them way better than any AK I've ever had even though my AMD65 I built and my MADDI both are relative tack drivers for an AK platform but the ergonomics and accuracy is way way better with the VZ's IMO, especially in a stock configuration .
It's a great rifle for Deer hunting here in VT where you don't get a shot much further than 100 m most times and mine have taken several Deer in the past .
IF you can find one that's decent , and that's a Big If ,,get it !
You'd be pretty darn hard pressed to find a better X 39 platform IMHO , other than maybe a bolt gun, of which I have as well in a CZ, well, a Zastave one anyhow which is a great shooter too ! My .223 & x39 Zastava and Charles Daily .22 bolt guns are tack drivers as well.
I love my CZ firearms and don't think I have a single one out of the 10 I own, that I'd ever want to part with to be honest .
What's your load data?
@@jason200912 Wish I could help you out on that , but I recently moved and during covid I had a hold up on my new steel building which is,,FINALLY ,, almost done. All my reloading stuff and lots of other stuff is still packed away in a conex still so I have no idea just where my reload data book is at the moment. I do recall tough it's with-in a few 10ths of a grain from what was listed in the older Lyman reloading manuals under there "accuracy load" for the X39's . Hope that helps at least a little, I was getting really good results with the Match Master HP and Game Master SP,, 120gr if I remember right? Worked well in my SKS's too.
Wow 😲 very cool 😎
You forgot to ask the important question: "WHEN CAN I GET ONE AND HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST ME?"
He built a gamer ak before the gamer ak and without using an ak. He's got a Beryl rail, an ar15 shaped stock, dual optics, and an obnoxious brake. All there.
I love VZ58.
Na zdraví!
When did he start working on this sports rifle? Besides the red dot most of it looks like it could have been done during the cold war.
The Czechs took the sks and made it relevant again. Gotta love Czechnology. 👍🔥💪
As a Canadian,my 858 screams to me in loneliness every time I open my safe!!
Cool
Hearing my mother tongue on an american youtube channel is super cool :-)
James, I am delighted by your reaction to this old wood and steel rifle. Because usually you hate shit like this.
I love the concept. Maybe modernized with pic-rails and of course modern optics
Wow that is really good looking rifle and soo rare!
Also i love that optic rail what he make.
Great Czech hands!
I own the paratrooper version of this gun they are great
James....off topic but, Blink two times if we have hope for the M21 🤞🏻
So, are my weird and obscure home-builds considered "rare"? 🤔
That's what I thought, too. 🤣
It's a quickly thrown together proof-of-concept build at best.
Oddball weirdo crap. This is why I'm here. Awesome gun. 💪
0% Bubba
100% practical
200% cool guy
My money the signature was James Blunt
Bernie Shaw, Uriah Heep
