Thought: "Lift stick": Why not have it 'pre-lifted' with rocks and/or other sticks? In other words, basically creating a 'rocket stove' type effect right from the beginning. (Edit: Gray Bearded Navy Vet here).

Out of all the fires I've built camping or working, I've never used or seen as smartly developed fire-lay as this one. Awesome job seeing outside the box to develop innovating and easy to implement techniques that have such a great and new impact on so old a skill.
    I appreciate your work.

I agree it's a good video for those incompetent to building a fire, but this is hardly a technique he developed/innovated. He's simply illustrating in a very thorough and well thought out manner an old technique to people who I'm going to assume are not southern country folk.

Nice, I am always in the market to learn a new campfire lay. I recently, as in a little over a year ago started making upside-down fires that have proved to be excellent in wetter environments like the Pacific Northwest/B.C. area. I like to start with base of whatever ground wood is sitting around, wet or not. Layer it up with smaller and smaller layers up to the peak and then light the peak. There is never enough materiel above the flame to block any draft and any hot bits and coals drop down to work on starting the next layer down. By the time it burns down to the base layer of wood, that has warmed up and dried out enough that it will burn too. What I like about this, is there is usually some charred wood on the forest floor left over from clear cutting and brush fires from a century ago that even in a forest full of trees the old wood is still there and I would rather my fire base use up some of this material rather than heating up dirt.

You have made a fire a time or two haven't you. Very well done demo. Fatwood sure makes life easier, doesn't it? That one stick you have will start 25 + fires. That is a great resource. I will give your method a shot next time I build a fire. Thanks.
