I've been training years and in the first 30 seconds of this video, you've fixed the most irritating, recurring skin problem I've had since the beginning. Awesome.
@willywonka00 I'm a walking callous now, but the issue is I have to tape across the top of my foot bc bending my toe back at all is brutal without it. It's always somthin. I will say, this trick works on scraped joints too. "Does the pain leave us?..or does it merely transform?"
😭 Thank you so much! I didn't even know this existed. I'm new to BJJ (3rd day in-a-row). Other than the incredible soreness, these mat burns on my toes and knees are kicking my ass.
I swear you have a video for every bjj question I find myself asking as a newly training white belt... 😅🤘🏻♥️ so grateful for chewjitsu!!! 🙏🏻 Thank you!
I've seen too many people hide ringworn or infections with gauze and bandaids so Nu Skin is absolutely the ideal. It also helps if your genetics hate you and you have adult acne. Your partners will thank you for the lack of face blood stains!
Toe burn; my first burn on the mats was on a big toe knuckle. Took a nickel sized piece of skin away. I remember it kept seeping and would form a scab into my socks. Just thinking about removing those socks afterward makes me cringe😬
@@fallennarcotic6981 Like what exactly? It would need to be material that still gives you good grip which immediately translates into mat burn I imagine
I get it around where my big toe and pinky toe meet my foot. super annoying place since i have to tape up across my entire foot. Thanks for this tip. Definitely adding this to my locker supplies
I never thought about liquid bandage for existing burns. I'll have to remember that. I've been preventing mat burn by using deodorant on the tops of my feet. When I was new to BJJ, I was super self conscious about the possibility of my feet smelling bad. I work in steel toe leather boots all day and sometimes it just happens. So on top of washing my feet before the gym, I'd swipe some DO on those bad boys, just in case. Come to find out, it actually works really well for preventing mat burn. I could tell a difference when I wasn't wearing it. Now I keep a travel size in my bag. Ya'll laugh all you want, but it's a trick I swear by now.
Liquid bandage is great! I haven’t tried it for mat burn, but going to warn those who haven’t used it before, it’s going to sting like all get out when you put that on. Makes you feel tough. I also use it on my fingers if we are doing a lot of gi work. You can put a little around your finger nails to keep from getting crazy hangnails or having the skin at the base of the nail get shredded.
I've tried liquid bandaids like that once. Took way way way longer for the wound to heal. Read the lable, spesifically said not to use on burns/scrapes. Sports tape works fine.
Burns like a sombich! Used it for cracked hands but it didnt last more than 15 minutes. I use straight superglue now. I dont know how well that would work for JJ though as it becomes hard..
Thanks for the advice. My feet were completely mat burned after my first BJJ training session and now after almost two months of training they still haven’t healed properly. My feet tend to get mat burns especially when I’m in mount. I guess you shouldn’t complain if you manage to get in mount but those times I always cry inside because i know my feet are gonna be fucked afterwards 😂
I had my first class this past Monday man my big toe is so messed up, glad to know this isnt just a rookie thing. I have been putting vaseline all day I will try liquid bandage tomorrow as I have a 5k on Sunday. Hoping they heal enough to run with socks lol
This comes straight off too... I tried it for a while. It deals with sweat well, but any friction and this is all flakey all over the mats... I put a band aid and the taps but yeah, it's a hassle.
Recently just started bjj and the mat burns are knarly!!!! The top of my toes and sides of my feet by the pinky toes are the worst! Not being used to this kind of fighting style my feet have taken most of the beating! I thank you for this advice and will try it after swelling goes down to walk!!! Thank you so much. ❤💪🙏🙏😎
I do wrestling, but I thought this would still help. My knee is severely mat burned, even the refs question me about if I'm ok to wrestle. But thanks for the help. Glad I subscribed.
I stopped and let my toe burns heal after my first week, coincidentally that week a few days later is when a when one of my teammates realised he had Staph and had to go to hospital to fix it. Go figure, don’t always think you have to train through injuries and especially open wounds (burns and cuts), don’t go risking other peoples’ health and ultimately your own
seriously thought i asked this question. i lost a heap of skin over my toe knuckles. ive been bandaid then taping and its worked well, ill get liq skin and add that to the mix
I use new skin all the time on my thumb when i do bowling tournaments and my thumb gets rubbed up after 11+ games. I get open blisters on my foot in karate and i never thought about using this
If you know that you’re going to be doing some that will cause mat burns, you can put some Gold Bond stick on beforehand. It’ll help prevent the burn in the first place.
I’m so glad this video exists 😂. Bloody feet is basically my biggest problem in life rn. Edit: 40 min later and Walgreens brand liquid bandage applied. Feels like it will work like a dream and I’m looking forward to testing it on the mat tonight.
I use electrical tape. Doesn’t come off with sweat. Broke my toe last summer and used it to tape two toes together so I could still train. After that, my gym started keeping a roll on hand for everyone to use. I always keep a roll in my bag now too.
I'm pretty green to BJJ, I have mat burn on both knees. Of course it heals up somewhat but then next class it opens up again. haha so both knees are bleeding pretty vigorously every day. But I dont want to take time off to heal. So, to Chewy I come. The Liquid Bandage is nice. Burns, but nice.
it dries after about a minute and a half.. you will feel a burn as it hardens form the chemical reaction... yes its hydrophobic (repels water) and yes you can shower with it... we use a similar product to seal surgical wounds and keep bacteria from coming in
Duct tape works great on blisters from new mats. The glue is water resistant and the top of the tape is smooth if you get blisters on the sides of you feet they wont rub on your shoes while your not training. I Started training at a gym that had just got new mats and I got alot of blisters. With the duct tape I they healed without popping and became callused fast. Just alittle tip for blisters aswell I wish I had thought of liquid bandage for my map burn I already had some in my first aid kit but it disnt compute haha.
I just started taking classes last Saturday.... I’m a double amputee below the knee on both legs, so I do most of class on my knees or my butt. It is absolutely tearing up my knees and the ends of my legs... I’m terrified it’s going to cause infection or something. Have you ever worked with amputees? I know I’m not the first. Are there rash guards I can wear on my stumps?
have a question about fleixble gi pants. im more flexible than my pants. if i go up a size they are way to big and baggy. - im wearing A3 im 188cm 100+kg, ive been looking at the pants with a flexi crotch patch. have you used these? it's one thing not being able to stretch right out when im warming up. but it's a real problem when ive got someone in my guard and i simply cant open my hips out wide enough to move with whats happening in the roll. what should i get? it's always going to be tight. even when im skinny my legs are thick as fuck.
I'm an adult woman that wears an m3 child size 😐. I had the same problem. Try pulling them up higher on your waist. If that doesn't help then I would invest in a size bigger. Gi material is special so it doesn't rip. I would do major research on the material of the stretch crotch before investing in that.
Hi Chewy, I have been training for 1 year now. I have felt the burn on the mat many times, but have been fortunate and haven't lost any skin. I always get complements on how pretty my feet are, lol.
