    Wow what an amazing video! Thank you Anita. Could i ask that you add some more detial into these type videos? Like include your sleeping arrangements and meal prep and if you’re managing to bathe or where you change clothes etc… All those small details just so the picture is fuller. Regardless, thanks for these! I love them all.

      Thank you so much! I will make an effort to keep those things in mind on my next hike.
      Sleeping arrangements, we slept on the floor of the shelters. Bring a tarp to lay your sleeping bag on so that you are not directly on the sand.
      Meal prep, I have a hiking food playlist on there there are videos of the food I packed for Fish River Canyon and the Amatola, as well as my lunches for the Naukluft trail. For dinner on this hike I packed mostly Mama Alles backpacking meals (you can use my code MAMAAFRICA for 10% off on ur 1st order).
      I will make a video for you covering the bathing/dressing/personal hygiene in the desert. Coz you are right, now that I think abt it, that was a whole story on its own and to top it off my period started during the hike 😩
      Thank you for your comment and suggestions, I really appreciate it 🙏🏾

    Fond memories. Hiked Naukluft twice. Yes, that second overnight "building" was many years ago already a nightmare.

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  Місяць тому

      Naukluft is so nice it has to be done twice 🧡
      I was strongly considering sleeping outside that night 😅 horrible!

      @@AfricanHiker Thanks your reply. That "building" was many years ago private property and a place of vacation for the owner. It was reachable with a track from the main provincial road.
      I think I have the answer for THAT HOLE at 4:24. I presume that it is on the left (very close) to the footpath? On the second day of the hike there was(is?) a windmill on the left of the trail. IF you did not see that windmill for sure it was removed and stood over that hole!!

      I am wrong with the windmill! On another hiker's video the windmill is still there!!

    Ciao Anita, I hope this mail finds you well. I ask you one more favour: to your knowledge, are the rates for 2025 been issued? I'm asking since we are going shortly to book the flights...Thank you in advance for your very appreciated help. Best regards.

    Thanks Anita for a very informative video. We are doing the Fish in May 2023 and then some of the group will do the Naukluft. I'm still deciding on whether I will be joining them. Can I ask what powerbank you would recommend that is not to heavy and will last for the five days?😁

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  Рік тому +1

      Glad it was helpful. wow that is going to be an amazing trip. My powerbank is on the heavier side and it lasts me 5days charging my phone, watch, headlamp. It is called "Swiss mobile gear" I got it at Game years ago (maybe 2018), capacity is 12000mAh. On the Naukluft I took two powerbanks.

    Awesome video! Ive only been to Namibia once and really want to come back to do some hikihg! Thinking maybe flying into CPT for some diving then heading up to Namibia for some hikjng! Can you do this hike at a quicker pace, or do you have to stop each night at the designated huts so you dont catch up to other groups?

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you 😊 you have to stop at the designated huts, for the exact reason you mentioned. If I'm not mistaken there is an option of doing half the hike if you don't have time for all 8days. But please confirm with them, I'm not 100% sure abt it.

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  5 місяців тому +1

      And the other thing, the days are pretty long. Doubling up would have you doing 35km+ per day. And its in the Namibian desert 🔥 n on top of that water is often not found on the trail (we got lucky to have so much on our hike). Point being, it doesn't seem like a good idea to speed up the hike, even if you're fit enough the conditions make it risky.

      Usually when hiking in Namibia we take long lunch breaks during the hottest part of the day. From roughly 12 -2pm we chilling.

    Hi Anita, may I ask you with whom did you book your hike ? Any specific agency/firm you can advice? Thank you in advance. Greetings from Italy.

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  5 місяців тому

      Hello Nicola, I booked with fagalavoet.co.za/naukluft-hiking-trail/ they only do bookings for the hike, you will have to pay park fees on top of that (in cash, unless they've updated their system).
      You can also book directly with nwr, but they're notorious for sloth speed responses.

    Stunning video. How does Naukluft compare to The Amatola?

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  Рік тому

      Thank you.
      In regards to difficulty, I would say that the Naukluft and the Amatola require a similar level of fitness. If you can do the one will you def be able to do the other. The Amatola does have more climbs, most of the time you are going up and down then up again and on and on whereas with the Naukluft most of the elevation is gained on a couple climbs and in between there are gentle stretches.
      I found the Naukluft to be more adventurous than the Amatola, I thoroughly enjoyed using the chains. And although it is in the middle of the desert, it did not feel like it, each day I was in awe.
      I do have a video on the Amatola if you want to check that out. I loved both hikes, and will do the Amatola again one day coz we had rain for 5days 😭 I feel that I didn't get to fully enjoy the waterfalls n pools.

    • @AfricanHiker
      @AfricanHiker  Рік тому

      I would not describe either one as technical, but if I must choose then Id say Naukluft because of the climbs in the kloofs.
