The final hike of our hiking weekend in Botswana. It was a fantastic weekend away, the mountains aren't high but interesting. Made for a wonderful weekend of exploration, we found out that Monalanong Hill is Botswana's highest peak and not Otse Hill as previously believed.

Saturday, 5am left Jhb to do some hiking in Botswana 🇧🇼. Peak Bagging in the Drakensberg | GIANTS CASTLE

We went to Giants Castle 🏰 and on this trip we tagged peaks ⛰️ 8 in total, the first two Giants Castle 3314m and Gaints Pass Peak 3094m. The next day we did 6peaks, breaking my personal record of most peaks summited in one day 🥳. Fond memories. Hiked Naukluft twice. Yes, that second overnight "building" was many years ago already a nightmare.
Naukluft is so nice it has to be done twice 🧡 I was strongly considering sleeping outside that night 😅 horrible!
@@AfricanHiker Thanks your reply. That "building" was many years ago private property and a place of vacation for the owner. It was reachable with a track from the main provincial road. I think I have the answer for THAT HOLE at 4:24. I presume that it is on the left (very close) to the footpath? On the second day of the hike there was(is?) a windmill on the left of the trail. IF you did not see that windmill for sure it was removed and stood over that hole!!
I am wrong with the windmill! On another hiker's video the windmill is still there!!

It is safe, they have made it mandatory to go with a guide so that visitors won't get lost.

Karisimbi belongs to Kongo
It is right on the border of the two, and listed as the highest point in Rwanda. The highest point in Kongo is Mt Stanley which by the way it shares with Uganda.
Amatola, then my second will be KwaDuma.
Eastern Cape is delivering 🙌KwaDuma was a beautiful surprise ☺️ will forever be a favourite.

Yea, their highest peak is lower than Jhb. But the hill is still technically a mountain ⛰️ We did 3hikes over the 2days and in total had an elevation gain of abt 1000m. Pretty impressive considering how flat the country is.

Nope and I won't coz I don't have netflix or showmax or any other streaming platforms 😭 But the book was easy to read, just took 2days, very pleasant and gave a lil more insight to life in Gaborone. Might read the others.

Thank you, some great conscientious advice. It takes discipline to pack only the food you will consume and consume all the food you pack. Otherwise - take it out with you.

Thank you! I am hiking Fish River Canyon next week. So popped in for advice. We have limited water in the Canyon, so will have to carry up to 8 L at a time. So I am working out how to keep my pack weight down and also not depend too much on water. It is a puzzle, that's for sure.
Thats so exciting, enjoy your time in the canyon. 8L of water 😬 that is quite the challenge. On our FRC hike the river was full, water wasn't an issue so the food I packed was chosen with an abundant mindset. Perhaps my food video for Kruger will be more helpful, on that hike we literally had to dig for water and purify it. I packed food for that hike with water scarcity in mind.
Also, 8L is heavy. I would struggle to carry that and all my stuff. The most water I've carried on a dry hike is 5L. Good Luck 💪🍀

I think the Khulu name can work if the people in Lesotho can agree to it. Then any summit in the Drakensberg above 3000 meters is a Khulu. (If that's how you spell it)
Yea, and Lesotho has some great peaks it would be a shame not to include them.

It's a great feeling when you sit ontop of a mountain, knowing that a very small amount of the world population will ever get to see those views. 👌 Every hike gives me a sense of achievement, adventure, joy and calmness.
