I want everyone to know that this is Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, not Cape Town. Tourists seem to go to Cape Town, and not to realise that we have a vast country with diverse beauty. The Drakensberg mountain range is so majestic. Take the time to visit.

Absolutely and just to add. Cape Town is in the Western Cape province on the South western part of the country. Kwa-Zulu is on the Eastern coast. It's the most majestic landscape and it's sheer size is incredible. It's largest point when inclusive of Lesotho is 3/4 the size of England and Wales combined. The length runs from half way the length of the Eastern Cape, which is a province between the Western Cape and Kwa-zulu Natal , runs up into another province above Kwa-Zulu Natal called Mpumalanga. Top to bottom is close on 950kms / 600 miles in length. I promise you won't be disappointed in coming to the Drakensburg.

Hope you enjoy(ed) this one! Here are some fun facts:
1:35 All shots are my own. Before and after the hike I stayed in Dinokeng Game Reserve just north of Pretoria. Special place.
    6:09 When I hiked here I was like 'Wow, super windy here'. That night I found out it is called Windy Gap. (;
8:47 The perfect storm. The best show nature has ever thrown me. For hours on end thunder and lighting that slowly moved away from the mountain.s
16:10 I almost lost my drone here! I ignored the auto return to home because of low battery to get that one last shot. It then went into auto-landing without the option to cancel it. And I had no idea where it was! I solely relied on the compass and gps map to get it back. Just a minute after landing massive winds and rain moved in. Very very lucky.
18:55 This guy was totally stealth! I didn't notice him until he was right next to me. Quite an adrenaline moment.
21:21 Just like the night at 37:00 I made 'equipment drops' at night, putting most of my valuables in waterproof bags and hidding them from the tent. I didn't feel quite save there.
26:35 This was a special part of the hike. Those three girls hiked with me for 6km, on their way to their grandparents.
32:00 The thoughest hiking day I've ever done. Bushwacking for 12 hours, no breaks, drank at least 20 liters of water. Looked for a camping spot for hours, but nothing was flat or even close to camping. Then it got dark and foggy, I headed up the wrong valley and was about to just roll out my sleeping bag on some rocks and prepare for a night without sleep when I spotted that virgin cave. Then I had to look for water in the dark and fog. Probably the most dangerous experience so far, unable (unwanting) to film any of that.
38:50 I actually felt terrible those days. Unable to eat, waking up at night with stomach cramps, and just tired all the time. Filming in those situations is the hardest.
40:15 Meet my dad! I've never backpacked with someone before, so special to do it with my dad. And shoutout to him at age 60+!

Were the stomach cramps from the water? I know the katadyn doesn't get rid of viruses in water since it's a filter vs a purifier. That's an unprecedented amount of water in a day. I've never heard anything like it. I get it though. A trip I did, I drank 8 liters in a day and was still very much so dehydrated.

Ten Basic Rules of Mountain Safety (SOUTH AFRICAN NATION PARKS)
    - Don’t hike alone; four is the ideal number.
    - Choose your route carefully and stick to it. Allow yourself enough time - start early. Inform someone of your route and what time you’re expected back.
    - Choose a hike leader and walk at the pace of the slowest member.
    - If lost - don’t split up. Rather try to retrace your steps. Remember that climbing down is more difficult than climbing up.
    - Always take waterproof clothing, even in mid-summer, and wear walking shoes or hiking boots. Wear a hat or cap and sun block in summer. Weather changes rapidly.
    - If lost or forced to stop because of bad weather, stay together and remain in one place. Find the closest shelter from wind and rain.
    - In case of injury, take time to assess the situation. Then send two people for help and let the third remain with the injured person. If possible, mark the position on a map and send it with those going for help.
    - Stick to well-used paths, which will be indicated on the Park's hiking map and read the warnings on this map. Don’t take shortcuts and especially don’t wander into ravines.
    - Always take enough water, especially in summer, and food in case of a delay. Watch the weather and time, and turn back before you start running late or if bad weather threatens.
    - Take a fully-charged cellphone. Some parts of the Park do not have cell phone reception, but you will always be able to reach a place where you can use a cell phone more quickly than you’ll get to a landline.

Simply THE gold standard mate. All thru watching my Wife was "Wow"...."Wow"...."WoooooWWWW!!!" and at the end she gave it "Ten out of ten." We watch a lot of hiking/camping nature films on youtube - nobody ever got such a strong response from either of us. You made the absolute MOST of the setting with superlative filming and editing. So much to love and admire about this film. I was struck by your use of soundtrack/music at some moments to express "My god look at THAT...just LOOOOOK at THAAAAAT...". :). My Wife identified "That's his Dad - looks like him." Clearly she's smarter than me, I was wondering "Who's the old guy, must be friends...". I'll be pointing my meagre FB crew in the direction of this masterpiece - this is enriching and enthralling and definitely needs to be enjoyed over and over. Thanks for all your hard work Harmen, what you do is a gift to me and my Wife, more than simply 'entertainment'.

I have now seen both, this full version, and the shorter one of "The Drakensberg". I'm lacking superlatives that would describe well enough my feelings. Both versions are the best hiking or nature videos I've ever seen, in UA-cam or elsewhere. Outstanding cinematography, every scene so complete, the beauty, and on the other hand - the hiking challanges of the area so well presented, all those breath-taking drone sequences, and all the trouble you have seen to get that splendid material, and such an outstanding result of editing. Ýou truly are very, very talented, Harmen. Heartfelt thanks for these two wonderful visual experiences!

I don't usually watch, read hardly anything more than twice but I did with this video and I may with other videos of yours. Thank you for this longer version of film as well. Very impressive!!
