honestly, i’m in the same boat as you, i’ve taken art classes in college and it’s so much fun but i know my chances at a career are not great, especially since i burn out quickly working on large projects. biology is my other passion so i hope to become a lab assistant or something similar 🙏
That sounds like a great idea! A lab assistant would be cool!
The sad reason why the animation industry is suffering is because industries in general have very little foresight and just follow growth trends. When the pandemic hit and people were forced to stay home, people were bored and suddenly spent way more time streaming shows and playing video games. The industry sees this as a massive increase in demand and responds by investing heavily into producing more shows and games. That's why animation was booming when you were in high school. Then the pandemic died down and people went back to work, playing less games and streaming less games. And then those industries panic because now they're not making enough money to pay all those new workers they hired, so they either fire people or at least avoid hiring more. Sadly, I suspect your instructors did know and didn't want to say. After all, if all the students quit the course, the instructors would lose their jobs too.
This is actually a big part of why Feral failed. When remote work became the norm and the hiring boom started, WildWorks employees realised that they could get paid more by working for bigger game studios and they wouldn't need to move because of remote work. So several of the most skilled Feral developers left the company leaving the game in limbo. Ironically, when the pandemic died down, those workers who left lost their new jobs and some had to go back to WildWorks and ask for their old jobs back.
Hey leamon as a young artist (I’m 12) do you think I could get a animation class at the time? Like maybe out of school?
There are things like animation summer camps, just might be a bit pricey. I’d look into local classes and stuff too though

I took an animation (screen and media) course at college which SUCKED but i think it depends on the teachers etc. Plus it was 3D modeling too so it was painful and the advance course would of been 3D animation (plus this teacher was so bad at teaching that class) so it was just very very stressful
How do they expect you to learn when they give you bad teachers?
