I so look forward to the Gardening Simplifed show every week. It keeps me laughing and entertained, while learning so much about gardening. The interaction between Rick and Stacy is absolutely perfect!
I am hooked on this program. I really like the conversation about all things garden🌻. I’m learning more and more. Yes, it’s true we learn much through gardening trial and error, but anytime I can learn from other’s experiences is invaluable. You two are very enjoyable to listen to. I’m glad I found you. Btw, I am a true fan of PW as well. When I see those white pots I get excited 🌺. Thanks for a great and informative show.
This means so, so much to us! Thank you so much for the kind feedback 🥰We love making the show and our fellow plant lovers like you make it all worth it! ☺☀
You are hilarious to listen to. I live in Canada and love my Clematis.I just found your show on line and have subscribed. Nothing like good simplified information to encourage us out in our gardens
I so love your show!! If you were plants, you would be the perfect companion plants 😂. Your interaction is so enjoyable, the jokes, the puns , and your impeccable use of the English language is so refreshing to hear. Thank you for all of your tips, tricks and advice that tickle my creativity for the season to come so as you say, “ thank you very mulch” 😂😂😂. Looking forward to next week 🌷🌷🌷
You are so kind! Stacey and Rick would totally be perfect companion plants :) Thank you so much for joining in on the show, it means so much to us that people enjoy and learn from it! :)
@@pwcolorchoice please don’t ever stop this show!! I think they both represent PW in such an honorable way! And by the way, thank you so much for creating and raising the most BEAUTIFUL plants for all of us! Know that all of your hard work and dedication is represented within each of our gardens and you are greatly appreciated 🌸
@@chrismarchetti-olson6632 That is all so sweet of you to say! Thank you so, so much! 🥰 We love doing the show because of gardeners like you and we have no plans on stopping anytime soon! ☺
Agreed! When I started gardening I began to notice more small details and plants/creatures that I would have overlooked before gardening. It certainly makes you appreciate nature more ☺
I grow many of my clematis on shrub roses and my Rose of Sharon. I have the best luck growing the viticella (group 3) clematis because they are less prone to wilt.
Great question! You can plant shorter plants around the area where your clematis is planted to help provide some shade, the easiest way is to have a good 2-3" layer of mulch on top of where you have it planted 🙂
Too funny - when she said "aesthetic" and pronounced it "astetic" I subconsciously found myself saying it to myself adding the "th" in the pronunciation. I wonder how many times we all do that in a day and don't even realize it! Anyway, good info, I'm getting my PW Clematis in the ground this week 💚
Hahaha! I suppose as long as we get close enough for our brains to fill in the gaps, it works! 😂 Thanks so much for watching! So exciting about your clematis, they're such pretty and versatile plants ☺
The hosts sound confused about the use of lime to acidify the soil. Rather it’s the reverse. Lime is used to decrease acidity in the soil. Their general advice about targeting something in the neutral range is however on the mark
Rick was talking about Geraniums, this is an interesting article about it! www.ars.usda.gov/news-events/news/research-news/2010/geraniums-could-help-control-devastating-japanese-beetle/#:~:text=Within%2030%20minutes%20of%20consuming,beetles%20while%20they%20are%20helpless.
How do you get rid of Clematis that is volunteering everywhere? The garden has 'volunteers' everywhere...front and back yards. The clematis in our yard is not fragile...it's like a bull in a China shop. We would like to get rid of it. Garden is in Maryland near Baltimore. Thanks.
That would be sweet autumn clematis, C. paniculata, sometimes also known as Clematis ternifolia. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to control it, other than to remove it and replace it with Clematis virginiana, a North American native species that is similar in looks and fragrance but blooms earlier: www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=clvi5. It can also self-sow but is more manageable. You can also give the vines a light trim after they finish blooming to remove the forming seedheads, but they should save major pruning for spring. I hope this helps!
That is true! However, Rick and Stacey agree don’t add the lime. Clematis are no different from the majority of the other cultivated plants in your garden in that they thrive in slightly acidic conditions. They prefer a pH level of 6.5, where the plants absorb the maximum nutrients from the soil. One of the world’s largest producers of clematis grows his plants in a medium with a pH level of 5.5, and they suffer no adverse effects.

I think I definitely became more observant after becoming a gardener!
Agreed! When I started gardening I began to notice more small details and plants/creatures that I would have overlooked before gardening. It certainly makes you appreciate nature more ☺
Love the info about pesticides. Would love an episode dedicated to pest management
Excellent idea! We will definitely touch on this in a future episode, thanks so much for watching and for the feedback :)
I’ve heard both pronunciations of clematis and like that you discuss and address the subject.
Thanks so much! Plant name pronunciation can be a bit confusing sometimes so it can be good to hear the different ways people pronounce them :)
❤ I love that dance scene
It's so fun to watch :)
I grow many of my clematis on shrub roses and my Rose of Sharon. I have the best luck growing the viticella (group 3) clematis because they are less prone to wilt.
Sounds like you have a beautiful garden! :)
You didn’t complicate it. I love the information. Keep it coming. 💛👨🏽🌾🌺
Phew! haha Thanks so much for always watching and for your wonderful feedback, it is so appreciated :)
The only clematis is buy is pruning 3 !! I love them!!🌸🌸
Clematis are such lovely plants :)
I definitely had to buy a bigger trellis for my pink mink clematis. 😉🌻🌹🌷
Sounds like it is really happy in your garden! :)
I love Stefan clematis and all great videos about. Many of them translate to English, highly recommend to watch them. All info you need
Thanks for sharing that and for watching our show! 😊
I would rather have pickle ball than leaf blowers
I agree 100%! We’ll address the leaf blower topic sometime. Thank you very mulch for watching!
My koi love Japanese beetles
That's so neat! What a nice method to get rid of those little buggers :)
How do you shade the roots when they're in a sunny spot?
Great question! You can plant shorter plants around the area where your clematis is planted to help provide some shade, the easiest way is to have a good 2-3" layer of mulch on top of where you have it planted 🙂
I pick the Japanese Beetles off my plants and feed them to my chickens. They must be really tasty because the chickens love them!
It's a win-win situation, happy gardener and happy chickens :)
I’d take a couple of those chickens.
You and me both, my friend! haha :) - Adriana

HEY, Can this plant be grown in part shade?
Hello there! Yes, Pink Mink clematis can be grown in part shade 🙂
The hosts sound confused about the use of lime to acidify the soil. Rather it’s the reverse. Lime is used to decrease acidity in the soil. Their general advice about targeting something in the neutral range is however on the mark
Thank you for catching that! Yes, that's correct, we may have misspoke - lime raises the pH.
Did you mean Geraniums or Pelagoniums regarding Japanese Beetles?
Rick was talking about Geraniums, this is an interesting article about it! www.ars.usda.gov/news-events/news/research-news/2010/geraniums-could-help-control-devastating-japanese-beetle/#:~:text=Within%2030%20minutes%20of%20consuming,beetles%20while%20they%20are%20helpless.
Last year I noticed that the Japanese beetles left my dark-leaved cannas alone. We’ll see if it was a fluke this year.
Fingers crossed! You'll need to let us know what happens with them this year.

Don’t plant on mailboxes. Some mail delivery people have allergies to bees… that will be drawn to them
That is a good point! Thank you for sharing that :)

I thought you use lime to make it alkaline.
That is true! However, Rick and Stacey agree don’t add the lime. We have the can of death with soap and water.
It's a signature sign of a gardener haha :)
I do wish there was less time given to jokes and stories amore time given to highlighting plants and how to grow them
😂😂😂
😂😄
😂
😄
Pronunciations are sooo regional!
So true! It's fun when you can guess where a person is from based on how they pronounce plant names :)
If Dude would cut the corny jokes, there would've been plenty of time to talk about fertilizing clematis 🙄
😂🪴🪲ENJOYED 🪲🪴😂
Wahoo! Glad to hear that! 🤗☀
