Mooney never said he wrote for Pryor. Paul even said it in an interview. He said he wrote for the Richard Pryor NBC show. He said he wrote with Pryor like Sanford and Son and Good Times.
They did a Richard Pryor roast, and Paul Mooney was one of the celebrities who roasted him. I think I heard Pryor say that Paul wrote for him. I don't remember if he was referring to his TV show, or his albums. Most creative people brain storm together, and come up with ideas to put together their material. Since Pryor and Mooney were friends it would be extremely odd if they did not do it. Curtis Mayfield said that he was talking to one of his trio, The guy's first name was Fred, about something he was thinking about putting in one of his songs, and the guy commented to his idea by saying " that's alright". Mayfield said that's it, and the rest is history. Mayfield changed it from " That's alright" to "It's alright", and It became one of their biggest hits. Comedians steal from each other. Pryor said that he just got on stage, and said what he had heard black guys stand around and say when he was growing up, so more than Mooney wrote for him. I have coined phrases while just shooting the breeze with my friends, and they picked up on them, and next thing I know I hear it coming from someone else. I steal jokes all the time.
