I actually wondered why King Neptune looked different in the Spongebob movie than what he looked like in that one episode! Now I know the reason. And yes, he looked better in that episode.
As a kid I thought they were different characters, because as a kid I never registered their names. So I thought that the Neptune in the movie was just the king of the ocean and the one in the show was the god of the ocean.
Uh... Yeah spongebob is an adult, the movie isn't claiming otherwise. The movie he's saying that he's immature and the moral is "what's wrong with being childish". That's why he's insulted, because he's not LITERALY a kid

I think what they ment by calling Spongebob 'a kid' in this film was more saying that Spongebob was too immature and acted like one rather then actually being one. And Krabs believed because of that he couldn't handle being a manager That being said I definitely think they could've made it more clear in the film. It felt like they exaggerated his nievety a bit more then how it was in the show, which could've also been a reason for the confusion of his age. It's no where as bad as it will be in later seasons or films and he definitely still has his mature/sassy moments (like how he angrily cussed out Krabs in front of Neptune) but a part of me can't help but feel like that this was the start of Spongebob's downgrade as a character
What i got from this movie is sometimes you have to make adult decisions and face reality. But it shows that keeping the kid inside alive and doing stuff that makes you feel happy and like a kid is okay, and helps when things get too serious.

It still isn't the end of the series, nor really its canonical ending. All others seasons were made after it and these are canon to the first 3 seasons, and take place well after these and the movie. Growing up, my grandma lived near a pond where my cousins and I would go to feed fish. At the time, we were obsessed with this movie. We would pretend that our walk to the pond was our journey to Shell City and our walk back was returning to Bikini Bottom. I still remember there being a specific spot on that little journey where we would start singing “Now That We’re Men” (I was the only girl in the group by the way, which makes that even funnier to me). genuinely one of my favorite films of all time and without shame, it's a beautiful film about embracing your inner child and not being afraid to be yourself, a message that truly resonates with me, maturity doesn't always mean being a joyless squidward
I was 12 when this movie came out and it definitely still holds up! I quote it all the time and I have rewatched it a few times over the years. It is perfect! It is almost like a time capsule of the humor of SpongeBob as well as the quality of kids' entertainment. You points on the movie being flawed don't even seem like real flaws. There are tons of movies where the characters are successful because of plot armor, but this is a cartoon and one made for kids. You're just supposed to enjoy the ride! The other characters aren't in it as much because that's how the older episodes were. It was mostly SpongeBob and Patrick and a couple other characters might make an appearance. This is definitely the best SpongeBob movie out of all of them. The others are pretty soulless in comparison.
This is still the real ending of the series and you can’t change my mind. I’m honestly still shocked at how good of a kid’s movie it is. It’s very funny. The soundtrack is infectious. It has a great message. And SpongeBob goes through an appropriate character arc where he comes to terms with being who he is despite everyone looking down on him. I still deeply enjoy revisiting it every now and then and I will never not wish that this was the end.

Yes Steve, you should review the second SpongeBob film. Also with Christmas coming up, you should review "Christmas Carol: The Movie", an animated adaptation of the classic novel, and see if it is as bad as what people think.
In regards to why Patchy wasn't in the film, I recall reading somewhere that the showrunners decided not to include him due to part of the appeal he has in the show. They were unsure about whether or not the intentional low budget feel of the Patchy segments would work for either the executives at Paramount or movie audiences.

One of the all-time animated films to watch. Along with The Wild Robot that came out this year, I still would say this movie that came out over 20 years ago still holds up and is truly something that I find magical in being able to still be funny and very well written. I'm glad to see a non rose-tinted glasses review to a final farewell of the classic SpongeBob series. You can definitely see the transition of sudden changes that were less approved by Hillenburg, including less consistent natures and designs of some characters. And you can definitely see the higher appeal to aim towards younger children. The movie is still a classic, and still hold close to my heart personally, but it definitely has the elements that show that this is truly the end and can now be reviewed critically in all its fairness. Wonderful video! 😊❤
Hi Steve, I’ve just discovered your channel and really enjoy your content! I’m wondering if you could do a review of Jim Henson’s ‘The Dark Crystal’ (1982)?
You're idea of having Patchy in the film's intro is actually really good, like he gets an entire crew together to search for the movie tickets, that would've been awesome to see
Man, I still find this movie absolutely hilarious! This review did a really good job highlighting some of my favorite moments from the film! Great work man 👍
To be honest, as someone who loves BOTH The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and Sponge Out Of Water, I wouldn’t mind seeing a review of Sponge Out Of Water. For me, it was worth a revisit, and (I don’t care what anyone else says otherwise about this) it felt like a legitimate sequel to the first film, the story being by its original captain, Stephen Hillenburg, the stakes being higher with The Krusty Krab’s security system with a pressure plate in the safe to where the Krabby Patty Formula is kept, and a lockdown breach (although if I had to guess the reason why The Krusty Krab 2 isn’t there is because the Krusty Krab in Sponge Out Of Water IS The Krusty Krab 2, they just removed the “2” when the original old Krusty Krab restaurant started to wilt and decay), Plankton and SpongeBob are both taken out of their comfort zones and have to work together in this Boy Who Cried Wolf-Who Framed Roger Rabbit-esque story, with Plankton’s arc being pretty similar to Megamind (a bit), and has the Nautical and Nonsense, like the first film, taken to the max.
Hmm, opinion accepted, but I don't think I care for critics anymore. The idea every side-plot in a film must directly impact the core plot is silly, Plankton's side-plot and the assassin raised the stakes. Side-plots can add scenery, world building, fun filler - it's extra, distracting from the plot gives it room to breathe and this doesn't only apply to Spongebob. Everyone's a critic, the nitpicks are personal so I can't exactly state there's any experienced critique coming from this. Coming from your 'Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids' review and seeing full-on praise for it, I think you're best suited for horror/mature movie reviews.
This will always and forever be the best and only SpongeBob Movie in my eyes. The jokes, quality of animation,a fun and serious toned story with nothing but the highest of highs while also having one some of the best pieces of music I've ever heard growing up. If yall EVER need the perfect movie for a night with your kids and or friends/family this right here is a golden CLASSIC. Sad to see how SpongeBob is fairing now though with how they keep ruining the jokes with over exaggerated expressions every 2 seconds
I've seen a few movies in my life, many of them were masterpieces, movies that marked their time as significant works of art, and made me wonder about a lot of things... But Spongebob the Movie from 2004 will always, ALWAYS be the best movie of all time to me.
Nostalgia has me blinded, I still love this movie and still watch it frequently. I watched Sponge Out of Water in theaters thinking it was going to be bad but was pleasantly surprised. It’s honestly almost as good as the first movie in my opinion. Definitely worth a look.
I would love to hear your thoughts about the second movie, SpongeBob out of water. While not better than the first one, it is a good decent movie that I would watch over from time to time.
I'm 32, and watching this review brought back SO many memories of me as a kid watching this. So all I can say is, this would have been a great send off to the Sponge. Oh if only that were true. I mean some of the SpongeBob episodes after this movie were good but there were more misses then hits. Also, I never saw the other SpongeBob movies after this one, so I don't know how well the others hold up. It would be interesting to see you cover the second one, and possibly the others. To see how they've done over the years.❤🪼🦀🐙🐟🐡
I already thought this before, but knowing how even Stephen wanted the show to end with the movie, I feel like now, more than ever, the show needs to end. It needed to end years ago, but now that the creator is dead, it really needs to end. R.I.P. Mr. Hillenburg.
Watched it recently for the first time. Had no ideas all the memes were from the same movie. Also, it felt timeless. It felt like it could have been released this year and been exactly the same.
*Attempt #22* Would you consider reviewing the Redwall animated series?❤️ The show revolves around various woodland animals defending their home, Redwall Abby, from several evil factions who seek to control it. Its a childhood favorite of mine, but its a show with dark and depressing elements sprinkled in...that was broadcasted on PBS (being one of the few animated series to focus on story, rather than education).
I don't think the story was literally calling Spongebob a kid but rather saying he acted like a kid. That's how I always interepted it at least.
That's exactly what it's saying.
It's not that he's like 9 or something.
He's still in his mid-20s, he just acts like he's 9.
But SpongeBob referred to himself as an actual kid and not that he behaved like one. “I am just a kid”. I still interpreted that they meant he acted like a kid, but now that they mentioned it, they only ever said that he was just a kid, but that he acted like one.

The nostalgia is crazy
My mom didn't give a single care about Spongebob when she took me to see this movie, but it still got a few laughs out of her, which is a good sign.
The ice cream scene terrified me as a kid. Especially that veiny cat.
I've seen a few movies in my life, many of them were masterpieces, movies that marked their time as significant works of art, and made me wonder about a lot of things...
But Spongebob the Movie from 2004 will always, ALWAYS be the best movie of all time to me.
Didn't expect Steve Reviews would review a movie like this.
Nostalgia has me blinded, I still love this movie and still watch it frequently. I watched Sponge Out of Water in theaters thinking it was going to be bad but was pleasantly surprised. It’s honestly almost as good as the first movie in my opinion. Definitely worth a look.
It's not nostalgia, the film's jokes are well-structured. Don't let a guy's cynicism knock that.
I had a cover of Goody Goober pop up on one of my Pandora stations a while back. Took me 100% off guard. Turned my walk into a run.
I would love to hear your thoughts about the second movie, SpongeBob out of water. While not better than the first one, it is a good decent movie that I would watch over from time to time.
Goofy goober is ICONIC
R.I.P. Mr. Hillenburg.
Bro the editing in this video is so well done lmao
I love and appreciate your reviews on these adult and kid films
I remember almost every line of this movie since I was a kid!
Finally a upload from Steve 💪🏾💯
Watched it recently for the first time. Had no ideas all the memes were from the same movie. Also, it felt timeless. It felt like it could have been released this year and been exactly the same.
I so wish you’d upload more, you’re my comfort channel 🥲
I never thought I'd see it, with me own eye... A NEW SPONGEBOB MOVIE REVIEW! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
This was a Surprised and the Thumbnail 😂
Dude the Velma show has been cancelled! We finally won!
The old lady offering SpongeBob ice cream then the fish comes out definitely traumatised me a little when I was a kid
*Attempt #22*
Would you consider reviewing the Redwall animated series?❤️
The show revolves around various woodland animals defending their home, Redwall Abby, from several evil factions who seek to control it.
Its a childhood favorite of mine, but its a show with dark and depressing elements sprinkled in...that was broadcasted on PBS (being one of the few animated series to focus on story, rather than education).
And one of those evil factions i recall were an Army of Rats lead by a large one eyed rat known as Cluney the Scourge
That part when they go into the trench surrounded by bones with that lone ice cream booth scared the crap out of me
