I think there's a big difference between children's media and child accessable media. Children's media, like you said, treats you like a kid, while child accessable media is just books/shows/movies that can be enjoyed by anyone, just including children, rather than catering towards them. And I much prefer the latter. (If you want an example, just think of Mickey mouse clubhouse vs. gravity falls)

This movie was special to me for a very specific reason. My birthday was 09-09-1999 and this movie came out on 09-09-2009, I was 9 turning 10. Best birthday movie ever xD
I absolutely loved the looks of "The Machine" which can be seen here: 4:18 The steampunk vibe, the electricity erupting from its eye pice, everything about it is cool.
One of my favorite movies of all time, first watched it when i was 12, the monsters were awe inspiring and terrifying, each death was sad and held weight. I remember crying when 6 died, it soiled 'Over the Rainbow' for me for a couple years. It's a cult classic these days, I still have the dvd and tshirt in good condition.
@@doomslayer84 My little brother type that, stupid dude made a UA-cam account under my email and named it frost sqaud, spelled like that and posted him playing with sock puppets and I had to delete it

I thought it was terrifying when I was younger. I flipped out when the dead ones came back cause I thought they were ghosts. I thought dead people did it too
I watched this movie when I was eight, and loved it. I remember getting hyped for it when I saw the trailer for it. The creature designs actually inspired some of my monster designs for a comic I’m working on. So yeah this film is very dear to my heart 😊
Another reason it's not very well known was because focus features came out with coraline which came out the same year and people were more excited for that, mainly kids
If you wanted 9 to be mute and be unique and represent actions speak louder than words. Did you forget about 3 and 4? They don't say anything at all throughout the movie. If 9 would've been that way it would've just been like 3 and 4. And they already represent exactly what you wanted from 9.
I remember watching this movie for the first time, I was about 11, it didn’t scare me as much as I think it should have, non the less was scary and frickin amazing and I think you did a decent job of explaining it, don’t think I Could’ve done it better myself, keep up the good work!
I still remember when I watched this movie when I was 8. To this day, it still holds a close place to my heart as a movie from childhood. Still being top 20 (most of the spots being taken up by Harry Potter, studio ghibli films, and Lord of The Rings). If anyone questions why I still hold it in my top 20, here's why. 1. The world of 9 is just something completely different and to this day no one has done it. I know it's a dystopia, but none really do it like 9 did and usually has more of a hopeful look to them. While 9, there was honestly a sense of dread. 2. It was actually my first time getting scared from a movie yet enamored at the same time. Even with how creepy and dreary everything was, everything had a sense of awe and wonder. Everything making you wonder what happened to make it turn into what it is now. 3. It was my first short I ever watched. After the mo ie was released to DVD, my parents got it for me and included in the DVD was the short. Of which, the short just made me wonder more about the world. 4. As you can tell with some of the movies that beat 9, I love movies that have a wonderful world to explore and it's world building is nothing but fantastic. On top of finding out more about the world, there always that sense of "If I find out more, there will be more to discover" 5. The fact of there only being the 9 who are the survivors. That really set the bar for how dangerous of a world it was. That each robot could come up to surprise you at anytime, that any if them could die at anytime. There was no certainty of good things to happen. 6. The art, the art is gorgeous. In particular the robots design and environment. The robots design were scary and moved so weirdly since, well it was a robot. They were just so fascinating to look at and watch. The environment on the other hand, it could tell a story all on its own. With the everything in decay and ruin, rust overcoming metal, and destruction being seen at all corners of the movie. All in all, yeah it is a wonderful movie and I'm happy I was able to see it
When I was younger, I thought the monsters in this were made by Sid from Toy Story and that the two movies were somehow connected. Also, the human-created robots look like something from Dishonored.
I’ve really learned to appreciate your review style. I also love when you offer your own wishes in the direction the film goes with tasteful humour inserted. I literally laughed out loud when I read “takes hit”. Keep up the good work.
I think 9 is great, but i will admit it needs some improvement, I'm actually hoping for a reboot, maybe one this year since it's 2019 (get it.... ge-get it...)
I liked this movie a lot as a kid (still think it’s fantastic) but I obsessed over Coraline to the point my parents would punish me by not letting me watch it. They thought the reason I’d yell “you’re not my real mom/dad!” Was because of it but I think it was because of this stranger danger video I had seen as a kid. Don’t remember much but I remember the lady telling kids that if they’re being forcibly taken by a stranger to scream “THIS IS NOT MY MOM! THIS IS NOT MY DAD!” Fortunately I didn’t say those in public so we didn’t get in trouble with the law lmao.
I watched 9 for the first and only time about two or three years ago, when I was living with my boyfriend after some family issues. The movie hit me, really hard, in the best way. The feeling of hopelessness, desolation and isolation, ending on bitter sweet hope for the future just made me feel a connection to the movie. It's really near and dear to me, and I loved that you reviewed it. Sincerely, thank you.
my Dad showed my Sister and I This film when We were three. It absolutely terrified us- but now this film holds a special place in my heart- and I lowkey love it-
I always thought the reason why they had different personalities, voices and genders dispite coming from one soul is because they were based on the ancestors of the scientist.
That's a really cool take, I don't think tho that's why they have different voices and "genders" is because of the voicebox they got from some random scraps.
@@acemagalor2519 that's what I thought, in the Russian translation, yes they all are a part of the guy's soul but I always thought the actual dolls are the representation of the people who the scientist was close too. It's like his soul was made up of the people he held dear and then separated them into the dolls. That's why at the end 9 says like, we have the wife (7) the children (3 and 4) and like the general, I'm pretty sure who is 1.
The intro makes it seem a lot scarier than it was then when I watched it. Also, I really wish they made a sequel that expanded on some of the unknown aspects of the movie
I think that the reason 1 has the only character ark in the film is because he is the bad side of the scientist, and the reason 9 doesn’t have an ark at all and is just a hero cliche, is because he is the good and naive side of the scientist
Bitch my mom and dad made me as they watched 9 and she watched it again as she gave birth to me, they make me watch it every year for my birthday. Beat that
never met one person talking about this movie, its my favorate movie and I own it on DVD im happy to see someone talk about it for the first time. I think its under rated and a really heartfelt movie.
I was 7, when I watched this and I don't remember it being this horrifying. I was probably still recovering from 'Coraline'.........that movie still scares me.
Sorry but the extinction of the human race is not as creepy as the deaths of at least 3 people at the hands of a sewing machine/ skeleton that literally uses their souls to make servants. We already have Terminator and every other "robot takes over the world" movie. That said, 9 is great. Glad it wasn't pg.
@dude bro But what about the Seamstress (centipede baby thing) using the corpse of an ally to trick and kill the dolls created by the guy who fucked up royally by killing seemingly all life?
The graphics look like the cutscenes to a really good 3d horror game from 2001, and I'm a sucker for overly creative and complicated monster designs. I adore this movie.
@@pleasestopinsanity there was a scene where 9 went inside a door and it looks like a car but i don't know since that was years ago and i think my parents just said that to make me watch

his "actions speak louder than words" bit, honestly is so simple, but god damn it was kinds mindblowing, like thats a very easy but smart and effective message that could have been put in the film. and this makes me wonder how the producers never made that decision;
I first saw this film in theaters when I was a senior in high school. My preteen sister was with me. We went to see one film, but it was canceled so we saw 9. It was rated PG-13, which surprised us for a "kids' film". The ticket holder double-checked to make sure I would be in the theater with my sister. I always wondered why until today!
On top of finding out more about the world, there always that sense of "If I find out more, there will be more to discover"
All in all, yeah it is a wonderful movie and I'm happy I was able to see it
You're a cheeky one for uploading this on 2019

The Seamtress was actually based off one of Sid’s toys.
I always thought the reason why they had different personalities, voices and genders dispite coming from one soul is because they were based on the ancestors of the scientist.
That's a really cool take, I don't think tho that's why they have different voices and "genders" is because of the voicebox they got from some random scraps.
That’s actually pretty accurate to the Russian translation
@@acemagalor2519 that's what I thought, in the Russian translation, yes they all are a part of the guy's soul but I always thought the actual dolls are the representation of the people who the scientist was close too.
