Dude. Heard this, walked out and bought it. Just from the standalone (you have a standalone, yes!) I know you just made my job as a producer so much easier! Folks this thing rocks out of the box as promised. You want VST 'clean?' Yup! Whatever crunchy goodness he stuck under the hood for distortion? HellzYa! And just in time to record one rippin bass track! Thanks Bogren!
I personally really digged the sound of the midi + Bassknob default preset in the unison parts. For the solo parts a real bass will always sound cooler. But the Midi Bass really shined here
@@Bogren.Digital No! I know his work with Angra and Almah, he also made a great job with the Bittencourt Project and the Kiko Loureiro solo albuns, I'll definitely check the new stuff! Thanks !!!
Love this plugin, I think it's based on an Ampeg SVT (CL?) maybe? I wondered if you'd consider taking on other iconic bass amps with this approach? I feel there are some gaps in the market on the bass amp side, but one knob really works well for bass emulations. I'm thinking of things like Fender Super Bassman, Vox AC50/AC100 and maybe even rarer/solid-state like Sunn, Model T Acoustic 360/370 (well, maybe two controls with the fuzz)?
Amazing how much the plugin sounds like Cliff Burton's tone on Puppets. Not so much how it sounds in the normal mixed album version, but more the UA-cam versions where the bass is turned up.
Please, PLEASE, give us a one-knob of one of those Marshalls sitting behind you. I've never heard anything capture the vibe of the Mesa like the one knob.
This sounds so great! I just need you to make an 5150 style amp, one jcm 800 style crunch amp and one clean amp. Then I can finally move away from an other well known amp sim company which is so slow in making their plugins work natively on M1 Macs. Please, Jens! 😅
Hi Jens, as a designer of interactive things, and also someone with massive ADD... _(Oh.. And don't forget n00b when it comes to guitar playing, recording, mixing, etc).._ ...I sincerely appreciate the simplicity of the UI; and the limited options. (Why would I need EQ settings on my fake amp, tone settings on my actual bass, somehow a difference between 'volume' and 'gain'... _*[I know the difference. But it doesn't make sense to me ;)]_ . Only to start correcting the tone & EQ settings with EQ settings in my DAW. Then tweaking said EQ settings in the final mix, and somehow "mastering" them - yet with more EQ tweaks...) (Does this make any sense?) -- Anyways - recorded 2 albums in Kohle's studio (on vocals) before I started to learn about playing any melodic instrument - (let alone mix or master anything) DAWs still kinda overwhelm me. I prefer to work in mobile DAWs, because the info is presented in the most minimal of ways. People like yourself making plugins like this... You're doing the dark lord's work 🤘💃🔥🦄 Cheers from Amsterdam
It will depend on the manufacturer of the bass instrument, so please check with them. If you want to see Jens use Bassknob on MIDI bass, skip to this part of the video: ua-cam.com/video/lj10jOIU690/v-deo.html
The amp we modeled is a studio classic and has been used on thousands of records across different genres. Best bet is to get the free trial and see how it works for you.
It switches in the clean channel of the amp and works great on non-metal music as well. Grab a free demo and try it out: bogrendigital.com/products/bassknob-std
Watching other people EQ makes me question my own technique. I start with a spike in a frequency, I move that spike around until I hear a spot I like, I pull back the amount of spike, widen the curve out a bit if it sounds good, and work from there. Everyone has their own method.
Hey, Jens. I recently got Bassknob, and am unable to get it to work. I have a Steinberg UR12 and am running Bassknob as a standalone. I set my output as my computer's speaker, and nothing comes out. Any ideas on why that is?
Sounds sexy. As someone who generally goes Grove Bass DI into an amp sim/chain, this speaks to me!😎 Looking forward to the future of your OneKnob concept!
Jens, ALL of your products have been top tier quality. This one seems to be no exception as well. But I've to ask, what's the deal with the name? You'd think the term "STD" would not be very appealing to, anyone. But to each their own, brother 😅🤘
i though the same when i started playing magic the gathering and people used it as a short form for the format called "standard. however after a while you get used to it meaning "standard" and not the other less pleasant meaning
Just downloaded the demo yesterday. It is a good plugin for metal. But not so much for other styles. I think the lows are much too prominent and can't be dialed out in the plugin itself. This goes for the dirt but also the clean channel. You need post EQ to do so. I wish the plugin had a simple 3 band EQ in it. That would make it much for versatile cause now you have only one knob. Maybe an idea for the next version?
I would love to have a plugin like this that wasn´t aimed exclusively for metal players. Even at the lowest settings it´s starts to sound like metal, that means completely awful.
The plugin models an Ampeg SVT, an amp that has been used on countless albums across all genres. The clean channel should give you a very versatile tone. If you are having trouble, please shoot us an email at support@bogrendigital.com, and we can help to troubleshoot. As a side note, you might be surprised how many non-metal albums have a distorted bass. The added harmonics are not obvious in a mix but help the low notes stand out a lot better.
@@Bogren.Digital I always use the UAD Ampeg plugin and it sounds very nice, BUT if it only had ONE knob there would be no chance in hell to find a descent sound. And by the way, I don´t think I can dial in the sound of your plugin in that one, it just doesn´t sound like a SVT amp to my ears.
In my humble opinion! This is very well explained, even if the plugin is "one konb thing", is very important to know how it works and what Jen´s did there. Not everything can be explained in 30-60 seconds as you mentioned. Have a good day!
There’s already those demo videos. He’s showing how to use this in a mix… since he’s, you know, a world renowned engineer and producer. And he’s not a UA-camr for a living. SMH 🤦♂️
I love the warmth you get when activating the tuner.

Avoid M1 and M2 macs at all costs. Such a greedy and dumb move on Apple's part. It just breaks everything.

Is there a safe NON-STD version? Could call it the “ONE KNOB - CONDOM“ ... ore “SAFE KNOB“. Cheers
No. We need to spread how good the tone is.
@@Bogren.Digital I meant a version, that does not translate to: One knob (=penis) STD (=Sexually Transmitted Disease). :)))
I just loved “if that’s not the perfect rock tone, I don’t know what is” 😎👏🏻
which styles is this good for?

@@Bogren.Digital what amp?
ONE KNOB TWO SWITCHES, must be the name.
Grandiose
Great walkthrough! (BTW it's "Grove" rather than "Groove" - as in a grove of trees, or in this case, the surname of Simon Grove)
So what does the ‘clean’ switch do and sound like? Not everyone is in to Metal..!
