    I saw somewhere that the US Navy uses a ‘no higher descent rate than your current altitude’ rule, ie descending through 5000’- max 5000fpm descent rate, 3000’- max 3000fpm descent rate etc. The idea is you always have 1 minute to think / react / live! Makes sense I suppose to gradually slow your descent rate as you come down lower rather than ‘cloud boring’ yourself into the ground.

      @cgaviator  6 місяців тому +3

      Yeah, I remember that. There’s also a degree nose down per 1000ft but I can’t remember the rule now.

    Fascinating. I love this sort of video where we can learn interesting stuff from your RAF experience. I fly RC model aircraft and some are available with a 'panic button' on the transmitter that will take the model from any attitude to straight and level. Can save new RC pilots a lot of money! I had no idea that a grown up version of this tech existed in 1:1 scale!!

    Great video, just so you know you can black out by going into assistance options and you can select the g suit option on or off, and civillian pilot is the lowest option, so for a low negative g or a 3-5 g turn you will blackout

From your videos it is clear how important is to look around freely, have you tried VR? I fly the sim in VR all the time and I can look around like in real life. Really interesting. Just read a book about "Human factors" I suppose it's probably most relevant to fast jet pilots, especially single seat jets. A question if I may? Been trying some display flying in the Hawk. I really struggle with spacial awareness. ie losing the runway.... I've done as you recommended with the course bar etc. Any tips? It maybe that my flying just isn't accurate enough and it's just practice practice. I'm on xbox, so no eye tracker. Thanks!

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  6 місяців тому +2

      Thanks, and yes, human factors is a big thing, in all aviation really. And it’s hard without eye tracking. Can you set up custom cameras so you can look back past the seat briefly? You should be able to fly it by the numbers and the runway appears over the top of the loop etc. perhaps you’re getting a bit wonky due to pulling too much g? Or slightly not wings level throughout? Definitely need to look around somehow 👍🏻

    I'm not sure if in DCS World the F-16 has it, but in Falcon BMS, that system is implemented, coupled with the TFR (Terrain Following Radar), we define what's the minimum altitude before the aircraft takes control and pulls the stick for you.

    Are you sure you can't black out in the sim? As far as I know they implemented a G-Forces simulation that can be turned on in the options. You can then choose wether you are wearing a g-suit and if you are a military or a civilian pilot.
