One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Glad to see young people are rediscovering it and Minnie Riperton. And yes, that 's Minnie's voice--she had a four octave range. Died at 31 from cancer. It hurts to think how much more music she could have given us.
Minnie Riperton had a 4 octave range but her career was very short. She passed away in 1979 at the age of 31 from breast cancer and a true talent of the ages was lost to us all.
@dayzour123 Exactly. And it's been said that what set Minnie so far away from the pack was. She could actually enunciate at the 5th octave range. Where others could not.
No one else could do the whistle register, never heard it since She was amazing and sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1979, she was just 31 Its a wonderful rendition, always remembered for it. RIP
Empress, I loved your reaction to one of the most beautiful voices ever! She was actually know as the Queen of the Whistle Register. Her daughter is actress and comedian Maya Rudolph who was born in 1972. This song was recorded in 75 and the melody to "Loving You" was created as a distraction for Maya so Minnie and her husband could spend time together. Maya was only 7 years old when her mother died. In the version you just heard Minnie was actually saying Maya, Maya, Maya right at the end. If you listen to it again to the very end, you'll hear it. Truly a beautiful song from an amazing singer. RIP Minnie Riperton🙏🏻
We missed her so much but she left behind a beautiful legacy befitting of her memory - a message of love and belonging. "Loving you is easy cause your beautiful" sums it all up. Magnificent performance, a God-given voice, a natural talent that is Minnie.
That was a very sweet and heartfelt reaction and I loved it. Back in the day this song was very popular. A vocal performance for the ages. Best wishes my Empress, RNB
The maya maya maya , breaks my heart with joy . This song has been a favorite of mine as long as I can remember . Now that I love her daughter so much , and for so many years . What a gift that she sang this for her beautiful hilarious talented baby girl ! ♥️
Sorry about that, I'm responding because your reaction was perfectly priceless. I discovered Minnie Riperton when I was 6 or 7yrs old and have been in love ever since. Minnie was part of a group called The Rotary Connection, after that she went out on her own with her husband and she has an amazing song called Les Flur sung from the perspective of a flower. After that she and her husband did that song loving you which I think she wrote for her daughter Maya Rudolph from the movie brides maids and SNL produced by Stevie Wonder and from the album Perfect Angel. Her next album was called Adventures in Paradise which is an excellent album of soul music after that album she did my favorite called Stay in Love which is a fun album of disco inspired music. After that Minnie did one more album which was more r&b and jazz inspired, Minnie Riperton passed away on July 12th 1979 from breast cancer. And I have never ever stopped listening to this beautiful songbird!!!
A gift to us all, the singing bird in a beautiful black female human body. Too short of time with us, but I'm grateful for it. Every song of hers is pure talent. So glad you are experiencing Minnie Ripperton. 🙏😍 Love your always genuine reactions 💕
Minnie Riperton wow what a voice. And she was so beautiful But so is Empress. Sad she passed away so young. Thanks Empress.😍🥰 Don't feel bad I watched a guy reacting to her breakdown in tears from her voice.
Oh yeah, I remember this song from the 1970's on the radio. She has such as beautiful voice. Empress, I shared your tears. Ture legendary music make one feel their heart melt and eyes well up, This is one of many songs that do these things, love your reactions. Love you Empress, God bless you.
Check out everything in Minnie's entire catalogue as I truly recommend all of her songs. My standout faves are "Feelin' That Your Feelin' Right", "Take A Little Trip", "(Comfort) Come Live With Me Angel" (duet with Leon Ware), and "Can You Feel What I'm Saying"
Yes, the next one should be “Inside my Love”. It’s risqué but exotic and beautiful. Also watch the live Midnight Special on “Loving You”, she goes even higher 😳 She loved wearing “Baby’s Breath” in her hair too.
Remember this so well as a child. She was a one hit wonder here in the UK with this which reached No1. Stunning pure voice, famous for that high note. Sadly she passed away far far too young. This reaction brought back memories and joy. Thank you Empress ❤️ You wear your heart on your sleeve, don’t ever change girl
Wow, I like how u got so emotional becuz Minnie was Beautiful inside & out 😍 U shud see her LIVE version on Midnight Special! I was lil kid when I first saw her n she GOT ME 💟💯 I was done smiling 😃 w/a BIG crush on. her 😲!! RIH Minnie ur a Sooo Missed Sweetie 🙏🏾😉
There is a lot more going on in this song than you first realise. I'm not talking about those fantastic high notes. The verses are the same lines just repeated in a different order. That's not lazy song writing that's intentional. She's crazy in love that those are all the things she can say. At the end of each verse she ends with a beautiful perfect thought so she's left speechless with that thought so words lalalalala come out of her mouth as she's still remembering that last line. The way she sings it is never the same. The birds chirping in the background, the number of flowers in her hair... It's not random. It's all well planned an thought out. People have wrote 1 inch thick books about this song.
Thanks for reacting to this song. This is my favourite female singer, she died so young, such a loss. Fantastic song, what a voice. Thanks again. Try Memory Lane or Lover and Friend, or I'm a woman or Light my fire. All great. I think she was only 31 when she died of breast cancer
I have watched Minnie reaction videos ALL afternoon. And everyone has the same reactions ! THEY CAN NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY ARE HEARING. And seeing. Women are all in love looking and crying. Even dudes were crying. ( I ain't gon' lie or front.... so was I. ) That song is SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL ! I don't care how TOUGH you are. This song WILL GET 'CHA ! Ain't no 2 ways about it.
And the very end of the song which was partly cut off she said Maya Maya Maya Maya that was her little daughter Maya Rudolf the famous actress and comedian from Saturday night live!
You can listen to ANYTHING Minnie sings. And make sure you listen to her sing with a group called Rotary Connection. And, she sang under the alias : Andrea Davis. Also. Type in Minnie Riperton unsung, here on UA-cam
She passed away from breast cancer in the late 70,s. And she is the mother of the SNL comedian Maya Rudolph. You should listen to all her music including the stuff she did in a group called the rotary connection Jordan Peel used their song at the end of the movie Us.
Beautiful reaction, Empress. A couple of words in and she already had you. Her voice is beautiful, moving and distinctive. She doesn't even need that whistle register to be special. She reduces me to tears also and there has not been a reactor who hasn't had their socks blown off by her. One reactor loved her so much he reacted to all her albums. You haven't heard of her because she died young and didn't leave a bigger legacy behind. But now that you know her react to her more. I'd start with "Inside My Love" and "Memory Lane" which is sad because she was dying at the time. And you are so perceptive. I can't remember a woman singing a song to a man, either - at least like that.
Such a beautiful voice and singular talent. Gone too soon. Another amazing singer from that time period you should check out is Roberta Flack! Especially "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Where Is The Love" which she sings with the absolutely amazing Donny Hathaway.
Unfair that she died before she could even get in a 2nd LP...The career she would have had with a voice like that...Thanks for picking this one, Empress!
You have not heard of Minnie Ripleton because she past away in 1979 of cancer at age 31. She and her husband the guy playing the guitar wrote the song and Stevy Wonder produced it. I was 9 yrs old when the was released. You should react to her live version of Inside My Love or Back Down Memory Lane.
yeah minie, lets u into her life wit vis personal touching love song, so cute having birds chirping away, wonder if ver ' love birds'?. a live version ive seen is suprisingly gd wit a few adlibs thrown in n a homage to her daugther at v end. such joy n tenderness she puts into vis song, frm one who sadly sufered much pain in her short life, tink it was writen by minie n her husband, so sad whn she sings wit so much wonder n joy of a future life together that sadly diidnt hapen. i c it touched u 2- sweet reaction, cheers frm way dwn sth
I've always loved this song. I have listened to literally hundreds of covers in the vain hope to find another Minnie, but no one comes close to her sweetness and vocal control, especially on the whistle notes. Even Mariah Carey, while she could hit the notes, never had the intimate control at those frequencies that Minnie had. And we shall never see her like again.
Wow , 😥🙂🙃 , love is a wonderfull thing , and when you pronounce it this way wow . And your reaction 🤗🤗🤗🤗. God night mi Lovely african empress 👸🦸♀️💃⚘🕊 🧙♂️☃️🙋♂️ 🛌 simma lugnt 🏊♂️🌞😁
Yeah that whistle voice of hers was one in a million. Mariah Carey tried to emulate it, but not to the same effect. You need to hear “Inside My Love” by Minnie. She was incredible RIP
Me gusta músicas antiguas pq antes para tener suceso tu tenía que ser un buen músico, bueno cantante hoy no, música inolvidable. I hug from Brasil to you i love you.

Exactly.

She never did grow old..She died at 31 of cancer..I fondly remember this song always on the radio in the spring of 1975 and graduating from H.S.
That's her husband Richard Rudolph in the video. They wrote the song together.
She is definitely one of a kind. Her voice is beyond words 🥲
No one else could do the whistle register, never heard it since
She was amazing and sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1979, she was just 31

Yes, Empress. Her voice is magical, the perfect word for her.
this! this is why i love music and i wouldnt wana live without it.
Yes, that is her voice, she was an angel ❤❤❤❤❤

I still cry... Song was originally for her Daughter Maya Rudolph SNL actress.
one of those off beat records that grab your heart, that high note made me fall in love with this tune.
Oh yeah, I remember this song from the 1970's on the radio. She has such as beautiful voice.
Empress, I shared your tears. Ture legendary music make one feel their heart melt and eyes well up,
This is one of many songs that do these things, love your reactions. Love you Empress, God bless you.
The guitarist is her husband and their daughter is SNL's Maya Rudolph.
Minnie is accompanied on the guitar by her husband Richard Rudolph here, who were the parents of Saturday Night Live alum and actress Maya Rudolph.
Oh! I completely forgot this song. I used to love it so much back in the day. Thanks for bringing my memory and the song back to me :)
RIP Ms Riperton, she left behind a wonderful way to remember her with this song.

Always love that you get emotional over a song. Lovely song.
💯

I miss Minnie so much. She is pure love and blessing. You had the same reaction that I did. "Who is this woman? Is she from earth or from heaven?"
Remember this so well as a child. She was a one hit wonder here in the UK with this which reached No1.
Stunning pure voice, famous for that high note. Sadly she passed away far far too young.
This reaction brought back memories and joy. Thank you Empress ❤️
You wear your heart on your sleeve, don’t ever change girl
I believe she sings Maya, Maya, Maya at the end. For her newborn daughter Maya Rudolph. Beautiful ☮️💜🤘

When you know the full story of Minnie and this song the tears have to flow.
Before Mariah Carey, this is where that high pitched whistle note came from. 😉
I am showing my age as I remember when this first came out ,beautiful 🌹🌹
She was an angel, she was cut short RIP
Did you know Minnie is the mother of Maya Rudolph actress, comedian, singer.
There is a lot more going on in this song than you first realise. I'm not talking about those fantastic high notes.

Minnie Riperton was gone too soon. Like an angel that visited earth, blessed us, and went back home. RIP

Hello luv, your welcome, and thank you for reacting to my request!
Voice of an angel
One of the most beautiful songs ever released.
Beautiful voice!
INSIDE MY LOVE is what most people remember The "SONGBIRD" FOR. The studio version she does a 26 second whistle. The lyrics are very sexually classy
See her performing this song live...amazing!!!
Beautiful reaction, Empress. A couple of words in and she already had you. Her voice is beautiful, moving and distinctive. She doesn't even need that whistle register to be special. That is her husband on the guitar in background.
gotta do inside my love next, minnies whistle note makes me tear up every time. its just lovely
Empress you just picked out the best love song out there. I hope you enjoy.
Les Fleurs from her debut album it’s also stunningly beautiful.
Astoundingly, the live version on Midnight Special sees her finishing on an even higher note. Like it's nothing.
What a voice, RIP Minnie. Jim

Stevie loved his high sopranos. Minnie and Syreeta and Susaye Green to name a few. He had a perfect ear
She has another really beautiful song called "Expecting". I nearly wept the first time I heard it. You'll love it.
They cut it off- At the End she sings " Maya Maya" - her daught May Rudolph, the actress

What a song
Sadly, this was her only big hit. She died much too young. But what a gift she left us with this unforgettable song.
I sang this to my friend while washing dishes in a Submarine in the Gulf of Alaska. Ask Scott Braniger
Yeah that whistle voice of hers was one in a million. Mariah Carey tried to emulate it, but not to the same effect. You need to hear “Inside My Love” by Minnie. She was incredible RIP
