I think we need more videos like that - just sharing cool things we've done or found without any care for views, sponsorships, clickbait, etc. The time when that was the norm was peak UA-cam in my eyes.
I miss the old era of UA-cam when more people had their own styles and types of content. Not that there isn’t anymore but it has become more one note since the algorithm only seems to pick up on certain things. This is one of the only channels I follow that hasn’t been extremely changed with the times which is why I enjoy it so much. ❤️

this is EXACTLY why i got into shiny hunting - the community. yours, sonikks, thesupremerk9s and shinycollector's videos were something my brother and i would constantly binge back in the day. it inspired my brother to challenge me to a shiny badge quest race and each day we'd update each other on how the hunts were going. eventually he face timed me like 2 weeks later with a shiny chikorita on his screen!! it 100% warped my reality, because shinies (to me at the time) were something to find randomly, and i was WAY too scared to start a shiny hunt LOL, but i started and after a little while found a shiny totodile on my lunch break at work on May 12th, 2018! even though i found shinies when i was younger, i never thought i'd start hunting them as much as i do today. thanks for the crazy nostalgia trip and the shiny addiction! also you really should play the new mario kart 8, its awesome!!!!
Only a minute in but gosh I miss abenzio's videos. They always had such an adorable and excited feeling. I remember one reaction video where he had found a shiny while on a car ride and he had his grandmother talk about how much he loved shinies and she sounded so happy for him. When I think about how I used to show my pokemon to my mom I think about that vid too!

This is such a genuine time capsule. The older footage combined with the current narration brings a really genuine vibe to all this, and a video like this really highlights what I think is the specialty of this channel. It's hard to describe the exact feeling, but it's great. But in all seriousness... when's the indigo disk movie coming out? (the more that people asked the ask, the more you shouldve waited. Imagine dlc part 2 of SV dlc video coming out after 10 years)
I got into shiny hunting around 2015-2016, so just a little bit after you, but the early days of shiny hunting is something I will cherish forever, watching people hold their phones up to their ds’s, hearing whatever show they were watching on in the background. I always liked to guess when the shiny would show up for the person since everyone put a couple of encounters before the shiny showed up (still do it to this day). Sometimes I miss it, cause now, when I look up “shiny gastly” I get scarvio videos when I wanna see some sprout tower hunting! Also the shinytwins nature guess is such a throwback, I hope they’re both doing well
Absol this video is really good, it seems like a logistical nightmare to somehow make all of that old footage work in a video like this. I think it highlights why I like your videos so much, they really capture the charm of the old internet and UA-cam, but only the positives. Improving on the formula; your presentation and pacing is really good and makes this video feel nostalgic even for someone who didn't really watch this stuff as a kid. Great work!!

For me, the easyness of shinies in gen 9 is what got me to start shiny hunting, and now ive snowballed into doing a few full odds hunts. I did a fossil hunt on lets go (784 with it ending up as Kabuto) and im currently doing a badge quest on Sword, looking for my first member on route 2. Shiny hunting has changed me in some ways, and i dont regret a thing about it
I was not involved in Pokémon or shiny hunting during the nostalgia era you’re talking about, and it’s so fun to experience it through this time capsule! I’m even feeling inspired to do my own HGSS shiny badge quest. The more things change, the more they stay the same

there's something bittersweet looking at the past, seeing the old bits you made with your friends makes me look back at what i was doing 10 years ago as a 14 year old. i would bring my DS outside with my friends and we'd play together, and then we'd make up our own pokemon stories and act them out in my backyard. simpler times. thanks for sharing Matt!

As someone who has only started shiny hunting about a year ago, and only found about 10 full odds 8192, and too many in arceus and Violet, it’s fun. You got me into it, and I hope I can meet some amazing friends as I share more of my finds.
Recently I’ve went through a rough patch in life and I almost sold my games because I completely lost interest in everything I used to like but seeing this makes me want to start hunting again. This seriously reignited the spark inside me to start hunting for my soul silver nuzlocke shiny only team and all sorts of other crazy stuff like colosseum hunts or emerald starters. All I can say is thanks for the content over the years you’ve made me laugh when I didn’t think I ever would again and your videos bring me a kind of joy I can’t even articulate how thankful I am. I was about 10 years old when you first started filming this, and I wouldn’t have regular internet access until a few more years from then, so this is definitely an era of shiny hunting I missed out on, and am a little envious of. Even if a lot has changed since then, I feel like you still encapsulate a lot of that same energy from the ol’ 8192 days, you’re always coming up with new ways to keep the Pokémon experience fresh. I think the first video of yours I saw was the shiny Xerneas video? Aw man, HGSS shiny badge quests are the most fun ones to watch imo. Eventually ended up doing one myself on Heart Gold a few years back and had a blast. Totodile, Mareep, Spearow, Hoothoot, Ekans, Geodude, Gloom, and Swinub for the main badges, and SR'd for Ho-Oh before the Elite 4 for fun too. This video was a nostalgic blast, love it.

i love the old shiny hunting videos, theres something so simple to a low quality camera, the background sound of the TV, and the sounds of the DS is so nostalgic. i often rewatch shinytwins old old shiny videos and hearing you mention willow in the cyndaquil brought a smile to my face :)

Also I love how the Matt southern accent was so much more prevalant back in 2014 compared to now, it's always wild looking back on ourselves from a decade ago! Great time capsule

it's crazy from when I was much younger (and had access to the internet earlier than i sould have lol) that I across many youtube accounts, have continued to shiny hunt to your videos all these years.

there's something bittersweet looking at the past, seeing the old bits you made with your friends makes me look back at what i was doing 10 years ago as a 14 year old. i would bring my DS outside with my friends and we'd play together, and then we'd make up our own pokemon stories and act them out in my backyard. simpler times. thanks for sharing Matt!
Man this was such a nostalgia trip! Abenzio, Total Drama Island, SSB4 and Mario Kart 8...geez man, really got me in my feels with this one lol. I had done a few Shiny hunts a few years before 2014, but that era was when I REALLY got into Shiny hunting, and found a lot of those early shaky-cam Shiny videos for the first time. Fantastic video!!

As someone who has only started shiny hunting about a year ago, and only found about 10 full odds 8192, and too many in arceus and Violet, it’s fun. You got me into it, and I hope I can meet some amazing friends as I share more of my finds.
I never really put it together till now but I think the old UA-cam charm your vids have is why I love them so much
Recently I’ve went through a rough patch in life and I almost sold my games because I completely lost interest in everything I used to like but seeing this makes me want to start hunting again. This seriously reignited the spark inside me to start hunting for my soul silver nuzlocke shiny only team and all sorts of other crazy stuff like colosseum hunts or emerald starters. All I can say is thanks for the content over the years you’ve made me laugh when I didn’t think I ever would again and your videos bring me a kind of joy I can’t even articulate how thankful I am. Thanks again seriously.

This was a super cool video to see Matt! I was about 10 years old when you first started filming this, and I wouldn’t have regular internet access until a few more years from then, so this is definitely an era of shiny hunting I missed out on, and am a little envious of. Even if a lot has changed since then, I feel like you still encapsulate a lot of that same energy from the ol’ 8192 days, you’re always coming up with new ways to keep the Pokémon experience fresh. I think the first video of yours I saw was the shiny Xerneas video? (Which was 6 years ago sheeesh) and I have been consistently inspired by how much fun you have playing these games, and how well you communicate that to us! H, ☂️!

Aw man, HGSS shiny badge quests are the most fun ones to watch imo. Eventually ended up doing one myself on Heart Gold a few years back and had a blast. Totodile, Mareep, Spearow, Hoothoot, Ekans, Geodude, Gloom, and Swinub for the main badges, and SR'd for Ho-Oh before the Elite 4 for fun too. This video was a nostalgic blast, love it.
