I would like a discussion about the balance between all the electrolytes.
Somehow I have gotten the impression that it's more important to balance then than the amount we get of each one of them.
    Na, K
    Mg, CA
    I'm utilizing a so called Sodium-reduced salt. I,e., it has 30 % of KCl.
The idea behind me using it isn't actually to reduce NaCl, but to avoid exaggerated inbalance between them.
I get enough Calcium from Yogurt, and supplement with Magnesium.
So, I should be good. But it would still be nice to find out what's known about these things. I thought UA-camrs were desperate to find subjects to SHOCK us with. But here they have apparently missed one 🙂
Perhaps they like to talk about these elements separately, to get four different subjects 🙂

Gil over at the NMS channel has somewhat addressed this and basically says that our normal salt for everyday table/cooking use should be the mixes like Salt Lite. The current public formulation is what is needed by those with particular kidney diseases, etc., who shouldn’t be eating potassium, not for the general population. Instead we’ve basically got it backwards-we market the mixes as specialist formulations for the elderly with hypertension, etc., when they actually represent a cheap and easy path to a common / standard formula and usage that would be an improvement in public health while straight sodium-only should be the specialist product.

One of the functional medicine doctors that I follow says that potassium is protective to the kidneys and helps reduce kidney damage from higher sodium in the diet. Possibly due to the tiny capillaries that are highly concentrated in the kidneys. And easily damaged by high blood pressure?
Could you do a video on kidney? Health versus potassium levels?

As far as I know this is correct. The standard prescription of avoiding potassium in the case of kidney disease is more of a prescription of not pursuing it without the guidance of a doctor, the benefits of potassium even in those with kidney disease might override all other considerations, it just requires more guidance or care than with those without kidney disease.

Dr. Linus Pauling postulated that the root cause of arterial plaque is a Vitamin C deficiency. Low levels of Vitamin C inhibit the body's ability to continuously repair the blood vessel walls with collagen, so the body actually generates plaque as a stand-in patch for micro tears. He pointed out that arterial plaque is found in areas of high stress, such as the arteries adjacent to the heart and not everywhere. As I recall he also pointed out that humans are one of the few mammals that cannot generate Vitamin C and mammals that can don't develop arterial plaque. He developed a protocol to eliminate arterial plaque through the consumption of Vitamin C other supplements. This approach obviously doesn't affect high blood pressure, but it would address the body's ability to handle it.

Too much or for me more than little vitamin c does not feels good for me. because it helps convert faster maybe tyrosine or phenylalanine to dopamine and and i think this exhausts adrenaline too quickly and stresses the system. Too much adrenaline then to lower adrenaline makes a mess with low blood sugar.
On a related thought there is bh4 I have a guess it might be related to adrenal exhaustion it would be nice to know more about it if it is related.

If you take a drug that spares/retains potassium, you *really* should pay attention to the instructions.
Certain drugs like some ACE inhibitors cause the body to retain potassium, so as you consume it the concentration of K in your blood edges ever upwards. There will be no impact, until there's a really bad impact which can include death. Hyperkalemia is no joke.

I’ve had Hyperkalemia for 20 years now. That means I’m on a potassium restricted diet for most of that time. If my wife gets fries with a burger and I have a few of them, later that night I have muscle cramps so bad that I wake up screaming in agony, feels like my legs are going to break themselves then those muscles stay sore and twitchy for days.
As far as I can tell, it’s caused by taking nexium for gurd. If I stop taking it, I have super bad heartburn. Because I’m on a potassium restricted diet, if I get blood drawn the labs all show my potassium levels as spot on perfect.
To be frank, I miss bananas and potatoes etc. is there a better way to deal with gurd or at least a way I can get rid of hyperkalemia?

I have reverse osmosis water what should I do?
I'm not sure if what I'm doing makes sense. Once a day I take supplement of potassium and magnesium and teaspoon of lemon juice and pinch of salt.
    Longer explanation of my situation:
I used to drink about 230 tds bottled water, and sometimes drink evaporated and cooled and carbon filtered water basically daionized water. And felt well, I don't have this water anymore. So I tried another bottled water and it feels very calcified to the taste I drank eat for some time I started to notice calcium plaque deposits on my teeth.
Recently I started to use reverse osmosis water I'm not sure if it is very good because it feels like it lacks minerals. I haven't had chance to measure it yet. It feels like 50 TDS. So we need to try to solve dissolve calcium deposit from previous water I start I have started taking lemon juice and potassium and magnesium as something that prevents calcium bind back after being dissolved. Also I add some salt to retain more water in the body. However I don't have much of this reverse osmosis water and I intend to buy more soon. And I i feel more on the dry-ish side of the body when I drink this reverse osmosis water. Maybe it is just because I don't have much. But I add salt to it to try make it retain more in the body.
Can I take potassium daily dose more than once a day? Can I take magnesium dose more than once a day? I consume dairy like Greek yogurt sometimes, is too little calcium is bad?

No fast “food products”. Make your own meals, gradually cut down on added salt if you have high blood pressure, and replace with herbs, garlic, lemon, and other ways to add flavor. Cumin, cayenne,. Consider replacing your table salt with Beyond Sea Salt, which is half and half, NaCl and KCl.

I find it’s easier to just get the all KCl stuff and try to moderate the balance myself, knowing how ubiquitous salt is. Like I can use a little bit of broth or a broth reduction in cooking, some condiments which contain some sodium, etc, and then also use a bunch of KCl in cooking or the finishing process, or seasoning to taste at the end, and know I’ve maintained a good ratio.

    • @MelloCello55

    • @mb7626
      @mb7626 4 години тому +2

You’re going to be getting sodium from dietary sources even with no added salt, there’s no evidence a sodium deficiency is possible (barring some other specific health condition) if you’re eating whole foods, we only started adding salt to food really recently in evolutionary terms and that clearly wasn't driven by health reasons so much as taste and food preservation.
Assuming you don't have kidney disease, we can handle potassium way more easily than sodium, and this is somewhat reflected in the K/Na ratio found in most whole foods or the foods we know we should be eating more of (potassium tends to be *way* higher). And realistically you’re still going to be adding some sodium because a little bit enhances flavour in a way that potassium salt doesn’t. It's easier to control the ratio in whatever way you think might be advantageous (which at this point is all theoretical anyways) if you're controlling the levers yourself.

I'm sorry, but I believe that excess Na being a cause for high blood pressure is an old and simplistic medical fallacy, because Na is not only present in the blood but also spread in and around all the tissues' cells and in intersticial fluids. How else would you explain all the liquids we drink, that make it to our blood and excess excreted by kidneys while blood pressure still regulated? Where does Nitric Oxide fit in then? I assume you are talking about potassium. It's challenging as some countries don't allow the sale of high-potassium containing supplements due to potentially dangerous effects if too much is ingested at any time. Not something to worry about with food though because it takes time to digest and extract potassium from food, so the increase in the blood is more gradual. You are better off just sticking to food: potatoes, sweet potatoes, potentially even dates. Pork has quite a bit potassium too I believe, but I don't quite remember. And meat in general has relatively good amounts of potassium if memory serves me right. But otherwise, what you can do is buy a salt that contains potassium chloride along with the standard sodium chloride. Buy a 50/50 or 30/70 potassium/sodium split and use that instead of table salt. If there is more potassium than sodium, the salt starts tasting weird, which I found out after having bought one that was 70/30 potassium/sodium. Some electrolyte powders also have potassium there, but often in small quantities as you don't lose too much of it during sweating and you also get sodium with those powders. In fact, that's the primary ingredient. The Prime drink also has a good amount, but the company is ran by scammers and incredibly dodgy individuals in general, so I wouldn't buy their products on moral grounds, but others can decide for themselves. It's like a sweet soft drink, but no sugar.
