I love that the movie ends on such a sad note. Them never meeting again. Its so relatable. People come people go. Its life.

Great essay on a masterpiece. When she's at the jukebox, plays the music, and stares right the camera ... it's the most stunning and sexiest forth wall break ever. It's like she's taking flight from the movie itself to somewhere else, transcendent of the narrative.

Can’t believe you did a video about my favorite movie ever. Just a few weeks after I commented on an old video requesting it. Just made my day a lot brighter! Much love!!!
Just adore this movie to pieces. As someone who lived their teenage years in South America during the late 2000s/ early 2010s, this movie just hits me very personally. Never seen a better portrayal of latino youth culture as this one, it just perfectly captures the patriarchal values and social apathy present in the South American elite.
It’s actually kinda funny as I’m not from Mexico, but the social problems this movie presents really marked my upbringing in Brazil. Guess that even though it’s not the same country, they are very similar realities.

I had been wanting to make a video on this movie for a long time, and your comment inspired me to rewatch it (which directly led to me making this!). That's really interesting to hear how similar your experience growing up in Brazil was to this. I definitely recommend watching the special features on the Criterion release of the film, they touch on some of the things that you mentioned. Cuarón is an absolute genius and I hope he keeps making more movies like this!

@@FramesOfEmpathy Brazilian cinema is full of hidden pearls. None as good as City of God I’m afraid, that is my favorite Brazilian movie ever lol. But I highly recommend movies by my favorite Brazilian directors: Karim Ainouz, Kleber Mendonça Filho and Walter Salles. From Karim, he has Invisible Life, that won the Un Certain Regard on Cannes two years ago, and I particularly love his 2007 movie Love for Sale. Kleber generated a lot of buzz last year with his movie Bacurau, which is awesome. And from Walter, I’d recommend Central Station, highly regarded as his best film, Behind the Sun and Motorcycle Diaries, which not exactly a Brazilian movie, since the actors are hispanic, but ok. Apart from those, some movies that got a bit of attention here lately where Araby and Neon Bull, both of which I watched in the last few days and thought were beautiful. Im not an expert on Brazilian movies, specially old ones, I usually watch more recent stuff, but I think u would like these as they touch on subjects and themes from most of the videos you’ve made.

Thank you for your perspective and analysis of the film. I saw it when I was coming to terms with my own sexuality, and couldn't understand why their friendship came to an end.
