Look at the Belgian league it's an absolute joke! You've got a team that, for example, is top of the league by ten points, not winning the title! Instead, the title goes to the team that finished way back in third because they won the little mini playoff at the end of the season! It's nonsense!
Defeats the purpose of a league system. Am I correct when I say you can finish 6th in the championship and get promoted while the team who finished 3rd might not depending on playoff results
We have this system in Australia too

1st vs 4th
2nd vs 3rd
5th vs 8th
6th vs 7th
If you're in the top 4 and lose your game you verse one of the winners of the 5th/8th games
If you won your top 4 game you go straight to the last 4
Agree. We already have cup competitions. Leave the league as it is. People in management positions love changes to justify their existence.
This is the absurdity of the championship quite frankly.
3rd place is basically irrelevant aslong as you aren't in 8th.
@@user-xh4bw2zc4g And? You need to finish in the top 2 to get automatic promotion! It’s a simple as that! You could say the same about the Champions league in the prem! Finishing 2nd is the same as finishing 4th, they both didn’t win the league and they are both playing in the champions league! That’s how we do it and it works.
What do you recommend they should do regarding the championship promotion?
We already have a playoff. It is called the FA and League cups

Too late we already have !!, I am against p/offs why do we need them . In the championship 46 games top 3 up thats it , why play 3 more, extra time , pens etc , its a war of attrition

Play offs are quite possibly the best thing in English football only a premier league fan who has no clue how much fun they are missing out on thinks this is bad.

My team have just qualified for the championship play-offs ask me if I am excited/happy / not really top 3 should be up rest of us should be getting ready for our holidays ..

They already have the FA cup and the League cup. Why do you want to add playoffs to the Premier league. The league should be about the most consistent in a year, not a lucky team winning a couple of matches.

Its the magic of the championship. Its how many teams came up to the prem like luton etc and im all for it .
in australia we have a premiers cup for finishing top then a top 6 knock out comp for a final, where you win the A-League. It works for us because it creates revenue, gets more bums on seats. The premier league has plenty of money, theres absolutely no need for it. It would just mean more games, which clubs already complain theres too many.

Playoffs are great for that 3rd promotion spot but not for a title decider. If you finish outside the top 2 I think its fair game that you may lose out to a team that finished 6th.
Sorry explain why play offs are great for third spot as opposed to the team that played all theirs games and officially finished third.
@elliotthyde5623 Makes the league more interesting. More to play for and keeps teams further down the league involved. Let's be honest, finishing 3rd and not going up isn't the same as finishing top and not winning the league.
@@ArchShrop no but if third place goes up then it’s only fair that the team that finishes third goes up. Doesn’t seem fair to me that the team that finishes third doesn’t go up but 5th place does. Just my opinion.
@elliotthyde5623 I get what you're saying but everyone knows the rules before the season starts. I do think it makes the league more interesting though. I'm a Wolves fan so seen us finish 3rd and not go up but also finish 6th on the last day and beat 3rd placed Sheff Utd in the final. Most seasons the league would be over by April without the playoffs

With this proposal of teams 4th-7th having a playoff for the Champions League spot, eventually, someone will make the argument/proposal that the top 4 teams have a playoff to determine who wins the Premier League.
Absolutely. The whole concept of league football is to accumulate points over the teams in your league. Never agreed with them even in the lower leagues.
A top 8 playoff system for the prem title will happen eventually

No. I dislike the playoffs they have for promotion in the football league, where say in the Championship the team that finishes 3rd out of a 46 game season wins 18 points more than the team that finishes 6th. But that 6th placed team wins the playoffs. So instead of the 3rd best team in the Championship being promoted on merit after finishing higher over 46 games, the 6th best team goes up.
No lie but the system of derrent bent with some tweeks looks good and more money for fifa aswel bonus 4 everybody
If they introduce play offs we will just get more managers complaining about "too many games", it just won't work.

Respectfully, no, bugger that, gifting the Prem clubs another chance to stay in the Prem with all the money? That would be a slap in the face of the Championship clubs. I also don't think it should happen between any of the lower leagues.
@Wickerrman I agree actually prob not a great idea but then I don't like the current system either, as was said there is an 18 point difference between 6th and 3rd.
@@stevenknight1198 that don't matter though does its the point difference between 2nd and 3rd . We all know before a ball is kicked top two up playoffs for others . You deserve to go up by auto or playoffs .
@@stevenknight1198 I speak as a Sheffield Wednesday fan, we had a record points tally without going up automatically, last season in League One. We finished 3rd, 19 points ahead of Peterborough in 6th...and yet, honestly I wouldn't change a thing. The playoffs gave us such insanely amazing moments, that I think it's worth it regardless.
That said, I believe the top 2 should still always go up automatically, I think we have a good system atm.
The correct idea would be to have 3rd v 18th and the 3rd team gets to play the match at home.

Not really. the NFL system is designed the way it is because it’s impossible for all of those teams to play each other during a season. The sport is too physically demanding to play more than 20 games in a season. Consistency doesn’t really matter, the question Americans would rather answer is, when everything is on the line in a single moment, can you perform?
@@loganleroy8622 Impossible? There doesn't need to be 32 teams in the top tier. The season doesn't need to be so short. I don't know where you got your consensus on the question Americans would rather answer. If consistency doesn't matter then just make every game a Knockout game.
@@TtableWhey I should specify to say that consistency matters less, not that it doesn't matter at all. You get rewarded for your regular season performance by getting to play your single elimination games at home and getting a bye during the first round. Consistency gives you a better chance of winning it all. However, it means that, in theory, 43% of the league still has the chance to win a trophy going into the final 5 weeks of the season. That heightens the drama and keeps more fanbases engaged.
Most teams in the EPL haven't had anything to care about for months now. Wolves, Bournemouth, Fulham, Brighton all started the season with almost nothing to play for and are going to end yet another season in mid table position. There's really only four teams left with anything to play for and yet all these other teams have to go out and play meaningless games for their schedules to be complete.

Here's why it doesn't make any sense: the English FA run both the Premier League and the Championship. UEFA run Champions League.
What's the point of having 4 teams fight for 4th position to qualify for a competition the English FA have no authority over?
Better Prem engagement.... You engage a Top 7 race.... A Top 3 race.... And a Title Race....

Why? Because play-offs keep fans of the teams in 3rd-6th engaged in the season for even longer than fans of the team in 1st place...
Either the league matters are it doesn't - English media often mocks American sports, and yet features similar money-centric customs that have nothing to do with sporting merit.

@@mnb9162 They do playoffs in the Champs League for a few reasons - a league format would be way too many games (which is why they wanted a breakaway league if they were to do so), and playoffs are playoffs, it’s a different format and is spread out. It’s not the same as a league in the long haul in how games are approached in a multitude of ways. The NBA with their usual playoffs (apart from their new trash ‘play-in) are played over a 7 game series not one offs because they know it would’n’t reflect the best teams if it was one and done. And look a their league before the playoffs, they half ass it all season which is why they needed to being the new ‘play-in’ format. We don’t need that, we have the threat of relegation, and multiple Euro tournament places, but the league is the heart and soul of English football, the bread and butter. There is no way that’ll happen in the Prem thats way too many games for football and corny as hell - the long run of the season as a league would completely lose its integrity of the point of finishing first. The run in at the end would also lose momentum at the top with teams knowing asking as they make top 4 they’re in the playoffs. Not a chance - leave our game alone

You’re 7th you wanna play like mad, to reach the playoffs for example.
And once in the play offs everyone there basically gets another chance for the title. Since it’s directly competing vs the top sides only.

Winning a league over a long season is THE defining thing that makes you winners. Playoffs are short term flips and anyone can turn someone over in one game so it doesn’t always reflect who is the 4th best that season in the long run, just that day. No thanks. It’s disingenuous of who deserves it.m and disrespectful. And for 1st place isn’t even worth talking about.
