Hydrogenated oil was patented in 1901 as a diesel engine lubricant. The fats in oils are like teeth on a comb, and can be broken down one by one, but in hydrogenated oils they are tangled and the body can't process them. You'll find them in many margarines. Bugs won't eat them; neither will I.
How interesting to watch a talk given six years ago. Recent research suggests that saturated fats as well as sodium is not a problem, whereas vegetable oils apart from olive and coconut are really bad choices.
This knowledge is 7 years old almost, it aged like milk. Some things I need to point out: Cholesterol is not bad for you of course you will lower that if you don't consume enough saturated fats. Also saturated fats shouldn't be demonized either, it's the way our body(and all animals for that matter) store energy. There is no toss up between margarine and butter, margarine is horrible and again full of seed oils, chemically processed. That's not all I disagree with here, I could write an essay on the things that aren't correct. However the rec to get rid of sugar and processed garbage along with not drinking calories was of course correct.
Pretty OLD INFO. I went on the KETO LIFESTYLE & lowered my cholesterol by 155 points and triglycerides by half. I drink WHOLE CREAM & use KERRYGOLD BUTTER. I eliminated GLUTEN and use BONE BROTH, lot’s of garlic, soups, cabbage🥬spinach, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, arugula, Pepper Pops ( hot peppers, cheese, wrapped in bacon 🥓), just to mention a few foods. Seafood, beef 🥩, chewable foods like 1oz walnuts, good quality foods, filtered water, and supplements. I lost 55lbs painlessly, lowered hunger. I have thyroid disease & periodontal disease. I listen to my body. So much more to add, but long lectures keep me sedentary. Gotta get moving!
Why do these so-called experts almost uniformly ignore vitamin K2? In parts of Japan where K2 intake is high, there are very few hip fractures among post-menopausal women, but in areas of Japan where K2 intake is very low (like in the USA), hip fractures among post-menopausal women are comparable to in USA, that is, fairly common. Almost nobody talks about K2 when they recommend vitamin D and calcium to post-menopausal women. K2 is necessary to move the calcium into the bone matrix and to keep it out of the soft tissues like the coronary arteries.

It's amazing that he speaks about statins decreasing your risk by a third and praising them and then 10 mins later downplays the risk of breast cancer in women from consuming alcohol by explaining relative risk. Lipitor studies found that non-statin group had a 3% chance of a heart attack, while the statin group had a 2% chance. He uses relative risk when talking about statins but then absolute risk when talking about alcohol?

This is junk science reference after junk science reference. For example fiber, it does not resolve IBS, constipation etc in high volume and on the only RCT worth mentioning on the topic of fiber they found a direct relationship to dose amounts of fiber in the diet and resolution to those issues. This is that the lower the amount of fiber in the diet the more resolution or complete removal of the issues. There was even a 6 month follow up of those who took part in this RCT with those who continued to follow a low to no fiber diet finding either more resolution or remaining at the resolution they had during the RCT and those remaining at higher fiber diets (mostly for ideological reasons) still had those issues from the start of the RCT.
Oh and the vegetarian study on the 7th day adventists had those who were 7th day but were more likely smoking, drinking, mostly males etc vs the group that drank less, smoked less and mostly female. There was some data mining on this poor data, one of which that showed if you sorted by just the difference of eating animal foods vs eating plant foods then you saw these numbers essentially flipping. This proves little but how poor the study is and being essentially epidemiology there is no strong scientific benefit to the results given the values are usually well below results that show anything worth looking into. For example smoking in epidemiology showed 1500-2900% difference yet some islander populations smoking prolifically show very little % increase over those who don't provided their diet remained largely unprocessed and devoid of plant PUFAs.

@Asherah 1147 My only correction would be to the assertion that "Cattle were designed to eat grass." Cattle, or rather their ancestors, *evolved* to eat grass. They weren't "designed".
@Asherah 1147 It was knocked fairly early on the head that this virus spread was due to someone eating one mammal that may have come in contact with a bat in wuhan. Lots of misconceptions on cattle. Cattle are often 'fattened' before slaughter over the last few months on a high carb (low fat) diet. In this cattle are fed food not fit for human consumption, so the 15% average grain content of their food is very poor quality by human standards and often the end result of already being processed to take oil and other compounds from like with soy meal. Yes, this diet is not great for their digestive tract changing the stomach pH. Most of the commenters were talking about using grass fed fats so I don't think people are really disagreeing with factory farming of animals. Ruminants have an advantage of being better at filtering out poor quality food sources more so than mono-gastrics like pork or chicken (or humans, so perhaps eating ruminants is beneficial to us since they do a great job or removing trash from plants than our system does). Many countries do not allow the sale or butchering of cattle that have been fed anti-biotics with 90 days of the time of slaughter, this is the case in Australia for example... a large exporter of beef.
@Asherah 1147 You do realize that there are grass fed grass finished beef, free of antibiotics don't you? I'm lucky that I live near farmers and cattle ranchers and know exactly where my beef comes from and what they eat.
I don't think it's the GMO that makes any of the oils problematic. In particular, pure oils shouldn't contain any genetic material, so you won't be consuming any modified genes. Grains are higher in glycemic index than table sugar. If it is higher than the basic table sugar then it is not good. If eating sugar cubes are not good, refined grains are definitely not good. Things like white rice and white bread give a carb intolerant person a lot of visceral fat; a lower belly that pops out. Those are fat cells being filled up by sugar (glucose). White pasta that people commonly eat is crap food. They shoot up blood sugar very fast. Keeping your blood sugar constantly low is key and shouldn't be dramatically fluctuating to a high magnitude as free-floating sugar in the blood is inflammatory.
He said a lot of good information. But one annoyance was siting the bogus Spanish Mediterranean Diet Study about oil being a good thing even though the no oil nut group did better. And the most proven studies of heart disease improvement with no oil were ignored namely Pritikin, Ornish, and Esselstyn to name a few. He is effectively promoting oil despite the no oil approach having better results which is ridiculous.
I went on the carnivore diet about a year and a half ago. I don’t eat any plants... which means pretty much NO fiber. My digestion is the simplest and easiest it has ever been.
Blatant lies about adult calorie needs. Recent studies (not surveys, as were used before, where we know people under-report) using the doubly-labeled water method show that lightly active adult men and women require roughly 2500-3000 (+/-300) calories, respectively. Add 500 to those numbers for those under the age of 25, as they are still growing.
In 2015 it was possible someone this poorly informed could speak this nonsense without peals of laughter. It's amazing how citizen science is crushing the priesthood of nutrition science.
There is no priesthood, this is taught in HOME ECONOMICS departments, not medical schools. MDs receive virtually NO NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION and it shows.
"only 10% of Americans eat a HEALTHY diet consistent with Federal Nutrition recommendations" This alone should be reason enough for anyone to stop watching.
Lets say what happens if we have perfect bowel movements without any or extremely low fiber in our diets? Do we still need fiber? That is the question.
I think many nutritionists would respond along these lines: Fiber stretches out the digestive process along the length of the intestinal tract. The sugar content of a fiber rich food is released gradually and provides fuel for the health and activity of your intestinal flora. The fiber is not just for healthy bowel movements. It’s primary function is to transport nutrients to our intestinal flora. Processed foods, low in fiber, rich in sugar, preservatives,, artificial flavors, colors and emulsifiers, can strip away the mucus lining of a person’s intestinal tract, leaving no place for the good bacteria to grow. Most processed foods contain little or no fiber. It’s been removed to lengthen shelf life. Most natural foods contain fiber. Maybe nature is smarter than we are. And maybe, if I give my body what it needs, it may be smarter than any physician.
i think the information is outdated. it is from 2015 and we live in 2020. year 2018 a new hype i of coconut oil was introduced.. so what is the truth now

Animal fat is also fine for people with cardiovascular issues. All studies showing Saturated fats are bad are in the context of a high carb diet. It's the carbs and seed oils that are bad for you.

When he said all sugars are processed the same since they have 4 Cal/gram, he lost me
Experts recommended diet differs depending on what the problem, ie, heart disease or obesity or healthy maintenance or cancer, etc
Do grains not get converted to basically sugar and thus contribute to developing insulin resistance?
*****
not whole grains.only refined grains.whole grains also take longer to digest and are released slower into the bloodstream.
no
so if you were right the number of sick people would be less
Yup
Clearly out of date science.

Antioxidants are impotent not serial you have week knowledge about supplement.
Whole grains supposedly aren't good for you, depending on who you listen to.
100% not good! There’s proof
This is amazing! It only cost me a few seconds to determine that this uni is complete garbage! Seconds and garbage! Thanks!
The Artificial Society He is promoting a lot of things that are ridiculous not just oil!
Did this man say we need to eat whole grains?
Yes, and that’s really stupid advice at this point.
THESE COMMENTS ARE 🔥
This video is based on 1950s diet model.
Ancel Keyes!!
Zinc deficiencys? What is the cause?
I went on the carnivore diet about a year and a half ago. I don’t eat any plants... which means pretty much NO fiber. My digestion is the simplest and easiest it has ever been.
Blatant lies about adult calorie needs. Recent studies (not surveys, as were used before, where we know people under-report) using the doubly-labeled water method show that lightly active adult men and women require roughly 2500-3000 (+/-300) calories, respectively. Add 500 to those numbers for those under the age of 25, as they are still growing.
" I'll say more about that" 🙄🙄🙄 just say it!!
My husband is so in denial of his high processed alcohol diet
Sad
In 2015 it was possible someone this poorly informed could speak this nonsense without peals of laughter. It's amazing how citizen science is crushing the priesthood of nutrition science.
There is no priesthood, this is taught in HOME ECONOMICS departments, not medical schools. MDs receive virtually NO NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION and it shows.
This guy is so off the mark. Time he took notice of what works and improves health. Follow his advice you may well have many problems.
Alzheimer’s is the result of his advice.
What is Resistance Training?? How can older Adults keep & grow larger muscles??? We need instructions. Please?
Pumping Iron. Look up resistance training if you don't understand!
"only 10% of Americans eat a HEALTHY diet consistent with Federal Nutrition recommendations"
This alone should be reason enough for anyone to stop watching.
And maybe, if I give my body what it needs, it may be smarter than any physician.
i think the information is outdated. it is from 2015 and we live in 2020. year 2018 a new hype i of coconut oil was introduced.. so what is the truth now
Sath Sah The truth is absolutely not what this guy is saying, for sure! Very bad advice and outdated information. Read the comment by Barry Anderson, he's right on!

Mis-information
Canola oil??? Are you kidding me 👎
As far as I can tell, Dr Baron has never done an ounce of original research. Whether you agree with him or not, I will stick with Dr Cordain , a REAL nutritional researcher and his 100s of peer reviewed original papers. Dr Cordain would shred this phoney.
I wonder if he still recommends cigarettes for his patients.
He lost me when his advice was to cut calories low, consume grains, fruit etc.... 👋
I feel ya! Have you read Neal Barnard's studies?
What's wrong with cutting calories?
@@wildanS Cutting calories by eliminating most sugars from your diet is great. OTOH, trying to cut them in other ways will probably get you eating more sugar, which is way worse, and also reduce your intake of beneficial nutrients. Watch any of Robert Lustig's videos for the science.
Same old wrong info.
What about the relation between vitamine D and thyroid functions?
Severine Lesellier dont be so logical
Sodium intake way too low that's actually very unhealthy
That's all I ever hear is eat a healthy diet etc.??? what about those who NEVER HAVE & NEVER WILL!?! like me!. like probably most people who look towards supplements to maybe help??? Do they help those people who are most likely Deficient???...
Good lecture however: 1)Coconut oil/milk is a wonderful fat 2) Animal fats are also okay for most people except those with serious cardiovascular issues.
completely untrue, animal fats lead to cardiovascular issues and other diseases like diabetes, so it is best to limit them as much as possible to prevent getting sick in the first place.
Guys, the real issue is sugar and then we can talk about fats because any diet without much sugar works
Animal fat is also fine for people with cardiovascular issues. All studies showing Saturated fats are bad are in the context of a high carb diet. It's the carbs and seed oils that are bad for you.
So many wrong ideas!!!
Soooo many!
This is what the comments section was for... Thanks comment people 😄
The minute he said "if you eat 500 more calories a day, you're going to gain weight", I knew he was basically full of crap, and an industry tool. I couldn't even watch the video any further.
Uhh what do you mean? That's basic thermodynamics.
LOL he suggested to replaced animal fats with Soy and Corn Oil SMH. Yeah I will not be taking that advice thank you.
100% rapeseed oil ok for cooking ?
corn oil no way
Flax seed oil
Dan Ryan westerns are terrified of death, hence the hysteria
Thanks for the comment.... no longer watching.
All outdated Junk nutritional science that is absolutely out of touch to how the human body really works from the inside out. Canola is a prime GMO Monsanto Bayer product. Very much disappointed in this content for sure. Holistic Chef Barry Anderson. I could go on but why bother really.
Barry Anderson 100% rapeseed oil ok for cooking ?
@@nixodian YOU have got to be kidding me. All oils I mean every oil cannot be heated in any way. Rancid big time and increases free radical damage in the digestive tract. Most oils including rapeseed are hybrids and the heavy metal nickel is used in the hydrogenation process or the processing of the oils. Bottled oil of any kind does not grow directly on trees anywhere . Holisitc Chef Barry Anderson .
Barry Anderson please show me the science references
@@nixodian NO my research tells me that it is GMO
Barry Anderson please give some sources so all can learn this. Meanwhile what oil do you use to cook?
good old lard the best fat available
Pigs are intelligent, sentient beings. Not wanting to torture and slaughter them is a valid reason for not using their body fat for cooking.
Aaron Aarons pig worship! Amazing if only we could get people to stop killing other people

This is garbage advice. My relatives and I have been following this for decades and gotten obese, uncontrollably hungry, and uncontrollably unable to stop eating. Many of my relatives got type 2 diabetes from following this advice. Going keto (20 or fewer grams of carbs per day) and fasting solved the problems.

I thought antioxidants are beneficial
They are in food, but some studies show that supplements may interfere with recovery time after exercise, for example.
The supplements he is talking about are all synthetic and not assimilable in human body therefore they don't work.
I started drinking hibuscus tea, and I quickly felt worse... Apparently for some of us too much antioxydants signal to the body that it doesn't need to fight free radicals anymore, and cause the opposite of the desired effect !
thanks doctor dog ma its very helpfull
He is advising to take seed oils !!!!! I am so disappointed. Outdated info.

Good video except Soy and Corn oil are horrible for your health.
Eggs, butter, lard, bacon are stellar too!
.... in my case, taking too much oats (high fibre) for years has made my stools too loose; so i have stopped temporarily ....
I was with him till he said too much salt, for goodness sake salt or sodium is an electrolyte, the body can handle too much, but it can't handle not enough, why do they give cattle, horses etc salt licks if its bad for them? I don't believe what he is saying is correct, just my opinion...
I love real salt 😀I even enjoy it in my coffee.
Humans evolved in environments where salt was scarce, so our bodies evolved adapted to that scarcity, and not to a food environment flooded with salt.
Aaron Aarons Redmond real salt, we all need salt.
And of course we same as horses.... so the same applies for us as humans!! :D
