    I just don't know why someone would abuse an animal. It breaks my heart to see them this way. Thank you for helping Otto. God bless you.

      > I just don't know why someone would abuse an animal.
      Read about psychopaths. They abuse animals, and most of all, _people_, because they _enjoy_ seeing living things in anguish.

    • @Aela-Fox
      @Aela-Fox 8 років тому +58

      Sadly not just psychopaths abuse animals. Where I live, in South Texas, mistreatment of animals is more of a cultural issue in that many people believe that animals don't deserve to be treated with respect or that is just the way their family has raised dogs for years so why should they treat them any differently.
      I am part of a group that walks around trouble neighborhoods and try to educate these people on why they need to spay/neuter, take them to the vet and mostly that letting their dog wander the neighborhood and streets is not okay.

      You're lowering the bar for "abuse" to make non-psychopaths into "abusers" too.. kind of like a psychopath would.
      But you can be sure that the dog in this video was _actually_ abused, and by a psychopath.

      I'm not saying that this dog wasn't abused by a disgusting human being that is more than likely a psychopath. But allowing your dog to wander busy streets and knowing there is a high chance of it being hit by a car or keeping dogs on a short, heavy chain in 100+ degree heat is just as abusive.
      If you don't think that neglecting to provide your pet with proper care isn't abuse then I hope you never are responsible for one.

      "Just as abusive" as what? .. as whatever was done to this dog? :D
      Nice passive-aggressive condescension in the end too!

    How can someone hurt/scare an animal so much that it freezes with fear and wets it's self?? This is heartbreaking but I'm so glad he found the happiness he deserves 😇....

      It doesn't always have to be an abused dog that wets him/herself at the vet. I work at a clinic and lots of well-adjusted and well-cared-for dogs pee themselves out of sheer terror, being left there for drop-off visits by their parents. One poodle today peed all over the place like 3 times, and the 1st time it happened, he was just in his kennel after arrival. We hadn't even done anything yet. Some dogs will pee themselves for room visits, too, so their parents are right there with them. Heck some children will pee themselves at the doctor. It's just not a natural place. You can sense it.

    I just don't understand why ppl adopt or buy animals if they only want to torture them. Some ppl seriously need to get a mental certification b4 they are able to adopt animals.
    A friend of mine adopted an abused dog and I still remember the day when I was hanging out with her on New Years Eve at her place and when the clock struck midnight, the dog would run around the house, barking and he was so traumatized by whatever the previous owners had done. All I wanted to do was just hug him and hold him but he wouldn't even sit still for a second when the fireworks were going off. Just because they are animals doesn't mean they don't hurt or feel pain and don't deserve love. jeez

    This poor chap must have been severely abused to fake death as his only defense.
    We took a dog from a shelter, and he's really very nice with us from the first moment. There's only one thing : You can't untie his collar, it makes him absolutely furious, to the point he did bite me twice.
    We speculate he suffered something real bad related to the collar in his previous life. It's slowly improving, with a combination of very firm speaking before (but absolutely no beating) and petting him once the collar is removed without problem, but it's not yet done (we have him for a month now). We guessed it would not change over night anyway, it's a patience game.

      is it one particular collar or just any collar? he's probably feeling insecure without it maybe, or maybe that's what comforts him

    • @PhB95
      @PhB95 8 років тому +58

      He didn't have one in the shelter, we put it on him when we took him home, without any reaction. Then we discovered we cant remove it. You may be right: We joke that he thinks if we remove the collar he will be homeless again, but that joke could be true.
      It's just one month since he's here, so yes, it's the same collar since the beginning.

      I think that what your saying is true and may be the reason why because he's probably thinking that because you put that there, its meant to stay there and if you take it off then he's gonna get the feeling of him not having you before he had the collar, if you understand what I mean.

    It made me think of my dog. I adopted a dog that was so abused. He peed as a result of fear, and got more beating for peeing they said. It was this tiny little papillon puppy. So he was unwanted because of aggression and constantly peeing. People retarded like that. He's one of the smartest dog I know. He was indeed aggressive over food, but it only took 2 meals time to fix the problem. Now I can dip my hand in his bowl anytime, no problem. He is very alert but in a good way. He protects everything we own, and if anyone tries to mess with anything, he bites for real. Anybody that isn't given permission to enter our house, oh he bites the crap out of them. Whatever gave him the instinct that we approved a person or not, he doesn't get it wrong. Toward kids, he's the nicest dog ever. He even helped kids to over come dog fear. All of that was taught with proper care and love, but some people just don't understand. We do joke that he's smart because we fed him dog food meant for old dogs; it enhances brain function (puppy food was out of stock, but we don't want crap brands).

      Don't go around killing people lol Sometime they just need a little help. I mean yes, I'm quite upset with they puppy's previous owner, but he suffers panic disorder and bipolar disorder. It is difficult to understand why they do all the cruel things, but they aren't going to be helped when you just think they are pure evil, and ignore the actual problem. The guy wanted the dog back. I told him no, and I'm never going give the dog back. I want him to understand that what he did has a consequence, and you can't just go back and fix it every time, cause apparently he thought he can. He breaks laws and rules, because he thinks he can get away with it, and he can always just fix things later. Honestly, he's far more difficult to fix than the puppy that he broke.

    My heart cried for this poor baby at the beginning of this video. I was in tears. But, I cried more to see his little tail wag, and the kisses he had to offer his human friends. But, having two unconditionally loving dogs of my own, I'll never understand how anyone could betray that trust and hurt these poor little souls. They are so precious. Precious like babies, loving, gentle and kind, seeking only the love and affection of someone.

      angelfire2510 I couldn't imagine what could make a person treat a trusting, loving soul like this. It's incomprehensible. I love my babies, too. I have a kitty cat and 2 doggies. My kitty was given to me by my mom 13 years ago. She was found in a ditch in front of their home. My brother and his 2 daughters were living with her, at the time. His youngest daughter found her, first. She had been hit by a car. They spent over $500 on her, and then, just gave her to us because their other cat was attacking her. But, they couldn't get rid of their older cat because she was blind. And, our doggies were both rescued as puppies. And, we love them all, as if they were the youngest 3 of our 9 kids. LOL. Yes, we have 6 kids, 13 grandkids, and 3 pets. We have a lot of love to give. And, my youngest daughter is as tender-hearted as I am when it comes to animals.

Animals should never be mistreated and it's only a miracle that dogs have the type of ''live in the moment'' psychology that can help them recover from the worst that humanity can throw at them. I hope the people who did this to him were banned from owning animals for life.

      I think they should have a animal abuser database, like they do for sex offenders. Then people could check on potential buyers, adopters, etc. and employers could check too, I know I would not want to ever hire someone who abused animals, and a lot of people feel the same way. It might make people think twice about it, I know it is probably unrealistic, but sure would be great if something like that was implemented. Besides that, it is well know that serial killers and mentally deranged people that kill usually begin with animals, so it would be a good tool for the government or law enforcement to keep a check on.

    • @SardonicALLY
      @SardonicALLY 8 років тому +19

      Jo Im I don't think the ugliness or cuteness of the animal is of utmost importance, I think it is the extent to which we anthropomorphize any particular class of animal ... that is how much we invest and see human emotions in them. There is a hierarchy of sentience and complexity in the animal kingdom. We are programmed to care more about cats and dogs and dolphins, than we care about an ant or a fly etc.
      Personally I would feel the same way about the winner of the yearly ''worlds ugliest dog'' competition... but I'm the kind of person that watches their step on a wet day to avoid squishing any snails.

    Excellent video!!! I cry that he had to suffer like this at the hands of his "master". Any man or woman that has to use these types of tactics on an animal to "teach" or "punish" them has no regard for life at all. Yes, puppies chew. Yes, puppies pee on your stuff sometimes. Humans: Learn to to give them alternatives for chewing or crate them. Humans: Put your stuff away so they cannot chew it. It's truly your own fault as they are just being dogs!! If it continues on items you cannot put away, again, then crate them for their own safety and your own peace of mind. I get so upset with how people treat living, breathing, feeling animals. This poor guy had given up everything I cannot begin to imagine what was done to him to break his spirit like this. The end brought tears of joy. That's what it's all about. They are not called man's best friend for nothing!

      That is our business to fight idiots that try to recuperate the love of innocent non-humans to manipulate people!!! I was living with nuns at school and once after having 'prayed' for all the members of my familly I wanted to pray for the soul of all the baby seals that were going to be slaughtered that week. The nun shouted very hatefully in front of all the other pupils that "ONE DOES NOT PRAY FOR ANIMALS"... Since that day, the very very very light respect I felt for the religious 'culture' died in an instant... god and me it's over!
      I didn't know by then the very bright mind of Hubert Reeves that said much better than me what I've always felt:
      "Humans are the most insane species... It worships and invisible god and destroys a nature without realizing it is the creation of that god they destroy"...
      STOP TALKING BULLSHIT IN THE NAME OF AN INVISIBLE GOD AND RESPECT NATURE AND LIFE !!!

    It never ceases to amaze me how sick we can be to animals. Its hard to imagine what this poor dog went through to put him in that terrified state.It breaks my heart to see an animal treated like this, so much praise for all who helped especially the people who showed this dog what it is liked to be loved, wish there were more people like that and fewer who feel the need to behave so appallingly to an animal.

    My bro had a rescue dog similar to this one. His wasn't as traumatized, but if my brother even spoke sternly (not yelling or angry, just stern), to the dog, he would try to run away from my bro. One day, we were having dinner and my bro didn't want the dog begging, so he sternly told the dog to go sit by the computer. The dog jumped on the couch instead. So my bro got up and said "go sit over there" and pointed to the computer. The dog didn't move, so my bro started walking towards the couch. The dog jumped off the couch and ran to the computer and huddled in the corner. My bro wasn't trying to scare the dog so he walked over to the dog to pet him and set the dog at ease. The dog tried to run so my bro caught him by the collar. The dog was so terrified that he peed on the floor.
    The dog had been beaten by men in the past so when my bro spoke sternly, the dog would go into panic mode. My bro continued holding the dog's collar and tried to feed him some dog treats to calm the dog down, but the dog couldn't calm. So my bro let him go lay on the couch. After dinner, my bro sat on the couch next to the dog, and the dog rolled on his back and exposed his stomach to my bro as a way of showing submission. It was heartbreaking! Finally my bro crumbled some cooked hamburger on a plate, sat on the floor, and set the plate in front of him. The dog ate the hamburger, and then laid his head in my bro's lap to show he trusted my bro again.
    They had the dog for years and no matter how nice they were to the dog, he never got past his fear of men.

    I am sorry Otto had a hard time. We don't know what happened to Otto, it could have been grief. My current dog was grief-stricken when I got her. She was so dedicated to her owner who was dying and had dementia. She acted as if she had been abused. I think her owner's caregiver was a good person and I'd hate to think my girl had not been treated kindly, but she was so frightened and distrustful that when I offered her a treat she acted like I was going to hit her. I hope Otto was not treated too unkindly. Sometimes fear wetting is genetic. I admire the people who adopted Otto. It takes a special kind of person to bring a dog back from that kind of fear to be happy like Otto is.
