  • The grief of losing my dog Benny of 14.5 years. The last day of my dog Benny...What happened during #euthanasia.. #healing from pet loss #grief
Losing a beloved pet can be incredibly difficult and emotionally challenging. Here are some steps you can take to cope with the loss of your dog:
    1. **Allow yourself to grieve**: It's important to recognize and accept your feelings of sadness, grief, and even anger. Don't try to suppress your emotions; allow yourself to experience them fully.
    2. **Seek support**: Talk to friends and family members who understand the bond you had with your dog. Sharing memories and feelings with others who cared about your pet can be comforting. If you feel like you need additional support, consider joining a pet loss support group or speaking with a therapist who specializes in grief counseling.
    3. **Memorialize your dog**: Find a way to honor and remember your dog. This could involve creating a scrapbook or photo album, planting a tree or flower in their memory, or making a donation to a pet charity in their name. Creating a memorial can provide a sense of closure and help keep your dog's memory alive.
    4. **Take care of yourself**: Make sure you're taking care of your own physical and emotional well-being during this difficult time. Eat nutritious foods, get regular exercise, and try to maintain a regular sleep schedule. Engage in activities that you find comforting or relaxing, whether it's spending time in nature, practicing mindfulness, or pursuing a hobby.
    5. **Keep a routine**: While it's natural to feel disoriented and lost after losing a pet, try to maintain a sense of routine in your daily life. Keeping up with familiar activities and responsibilities can provide a sense of stability during a turbulent time.
    6. **Consider getting a keepsake**: Some people find comfort in having a physical reminder of their pet, such as a paw print impression, a piece of jewelry containing their pet's ashes, or a custom portrait. Having a keepsake can provide a tangible connection to your dog and serve as a comforting reminder of the love you shared.
    7. **Give yourself time**: Healing from the loss of a pet takes time, and everyone grieves at their own pace. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself to mourn in whatever way feels right for you. Remember that it's okay to feel a wide range of emotions, and there's no "right" or "wrong" way to grieve.
Ultimately, coping with the loss of a dog is a deeply personal journey, and it's important to give yourself the time and space you need to mourn your beloved companion.

My sweet Bouncie was 19, fragile. Hip broke. She never made a sound. At vet, she lay on the table, I looked in her eyes and played with her ears. Very quick, the light just went out of her eyes. That was 20 yrs ago. I still cry.

Sorry for your loss. I know it's very hard to lose a pet...17 is pretty old age, I wish mine could live 3 more years. I'm looking for fostering a dog now.

RIP SWEET BOY! im so truly sorry for your loss. I've been there quite a few times myself. It's never easy to do but in time the pain will start to heal and God will put another blessing in your life. He did for me that saved me after the last one. I will pray for you.

@@BeccaL2016 I'm so sorry for your loss. The vet said my dog almost 14 has the beginnings of Cushing disease, and she said the medication is awful for the dogs,so I've decided not to put her on the meds, I'm crying about putting her down, but I'm going to wait till she start having pain.

@@JuanitaClarkGarcia I’m so sorry that you have to go through this too. As for mine, he seemed healthy until three months before his death, so it can happen quickly, as the vet told me, because of old age. He was like a 98-year-old human. we didn’t know until it was too late. The last few days were hard because he stopped eating and threw up everything he ate. That’s when I knew something was very wrong with him, and he stopped playing with his favorite toys. I had to take him to an ER because my vet was a month away from being available to see him. I could have kept him alive by giving him medicines, but because of other complications and his old age, he might have had a painful death, as the vet said. The vet said, ‘Ask yourself, “Is this for you or for him? If it’s for you, let him be alive for a few more days where he might suffer, but if it’s for him, it’s time to let him sleep without pain.”’ I know it’s the hardest decision to make; even now, I think of ‘what-ifs’ all the time. We need to make peace with ourselves, knowing our pet had a good life with us. After seeing many homeless dogs that had been abused and lived a painful life, I think I made the right decision for him because I don’t want him to suffer…though I wish he were still sleeping under my desk right now, and I could still take a walk with him. As shown in the video, a week after his death, while I was using my computer, I saw this big rainbow just right outside my window. I’ve never seen any rainbow that convenient; usually, I see them while I’m outside driving or walking, so it was too convenient for me to see a rainbow and the timing too. I feel it was a sign my dog showed me; I also asked him to give me some sign. I think even though their physical bodies die, their souls are still somewhere. I know he was happy with me, and he is grateful for that. Enjoy every moment with your pup now, and whatever decision you make, he is grateful.❤💞💜
