    I was doing this trick with my sister and everything was going ok, and when I got to the part where I hit the cards, instead of holding her card, she got scared and dropped them on the table with three cards facing down and her card facing up. That was pure luck but I really looked like a freaking wizard!

    This was the first card trick I ever saw, 20 years ago. I remember going home and finding a deck of cards and trying to duplicate this effect. Then I finally learned it, and became the typical 8 year old performing card tricks to everyone I could. Love the nostalgia of this one.

    When I use this method I act super frustrated then complain that I'm "tapped" out of "magic" (sometimes I change the word like mana, chi, karma, quantum energy, or what have you) tell them I'm going to hijack theirs, than put the cards (the corner of the cards) pinched between their thumb and middle index knuckle and have them say "magic" words, than have them hit or slap the cards out of their own hands. This added effect has them thinking they did the magic and you just help guide tham, also your frustration with yourself sells the effect some more. So for the majority of the trick they think you messed up until you put the trick in their hands.

    • @scamschool

      Patrick Perlas nice!

    • @Revenant-oq9ts
      @Revenant-oq9ts 9 років тому

      Patrick Perlas My method is more on... (After the "confirmation" that it isn't among the four cards) "Wait, so you're sure it's not here? For real? Hm. Sh*t... okay... let me..." *stares blankly into space, counting imaginary numbers* oh. Oh okay. Improvise then; hold up your hand.
      *sets cards*
      Yeah, I missed the card count, but I think I can fix that.
      *slaps cards*
      ----------------------------------------
      On a side note, I'm trying to make a variation that involves a snap change between two cards as the finale instead of holding four cards together and slapping them. Kiiinda difficult with my current experience. :(

    • @williamcooper8599
      @williamcooper8599 9 років тому

      +Jeremiah Catingub wait I'm confused, how would you implement a snap change?

    • @Revenant-oq9ts
      @Revenant-oq9ts 9 років тому

      william Cooper Well I've found a way. Pretty unpolished for now, but: after the slap, they see their card is the one in their hand, and I ask them: "What card is missing? You KNOW that card wasn't there before. What is missing?"
      Most of the time, they don't remember what the missing card was because they were focused on the context of their own card. So I take their card from them and change it into the missing card, saying: "Was it this one?" If they DO remember what was missing from the last four cards the effect seems more fun though cuz it looks like I materialize the missing card from their original choice.
      But it's still pretty crude.

  • @brianfederkins

    First time I tried this was on my sister, and I accidentally put 4 cards below their card instead of 3. Messed it all up!! second time worked amazingly, though :) Excited to show off at the New Year's Party tomorrow night!
    On a side note, I find it helps the wow factor if you set up the trick like Chris Pratt did on the Graham Norton show. He mentioned how the trick only works half of the time. This primes their minds to be blown twice as hard when it does work out!!!

  • @plplpop1
    @plplpop1 9 років тому +3

    I modified this so that in the end, I tell them to imagine the back design transforming into their card and when you slap the cards out, their card is left face up.

Just watched it again and tried it (without learning those moves yet)--it's so easy but looks tricky enough to confuse and impress everyone. Just gotta get the shuffling and moves down smoother so it flows well like when Brian does it. Thanks!

    The first card trick (and only card trick I could perform for 10 years) was a simpler variation of this, where I showed them their card was being put 4th from the bottom, and when I showed them for verification both times, I just did a "ok, one card down, one card to the top of the deck" routine with the pinky slide twice.

  • @Maninawig

    I love it..... Such a epic show of magician's dilemma......
    1. You set up the trick
    2. You suck them in and have them wanting you to make them believe.
    3. You blow their minds!
    4. There's that one person who's only reaction is to ask if they have to be the one to pick up the cards.....
    It is then you realize why they don't know the real meaning of life.

    I learned this trick a couple of years ago, although I do it that you take the first card, put it on the table. Then take the next to bottom card and put it on top. Then pull the glide with the next card, and put the one you show to the audience on top, then continue as originally planned with the next two cards, putting one down and the next on top. Then when you show the four, you don't have to worry about switching the cards at the end. I believe my first video shows it off (bad quality tho)

    A similar one: Spectator picks a card, returns to deck, controlled to second from the top (a simple way is to riffle through the deck, saying stop, then only pick up the top card, asking the spectator to return their card to what appears to be the middle of the deck, completing the illusion by either slamming down the top card or picking up a stack of cards and dropping them as you put the top card down). Then false shuffle and false cut if necessary. Double lift the top two cards, then count off three more, looking like you've just taken the top four cards (keeping them as they were) and claim the specator's card is among them. Discard the rest of the deck. Hold a finger break below the second card and turn over the top card. Not the spectator's card. Pick up the two (back to back) cards as one and slide them to the back of the stack, the top one remaining face up. Turn over the next card, also the wrong one and do the same with it except as just one card only. Do the same with the third, and as you turn over the last one the first card will be seen again underneath it face up, so the specator has now seen all four cards. The last one you turned over remains on top of the stack. Turn the stack face down and ask them to hold it and name their card. Then with your magical power make it appear face up in the middle of the stack!

    This is awesome, though there were a couple places when Brian was first doing the trick that I went back to, so I could see how to do a couple of things smoothly and discreetly (like moving the 3 cards to the bottom). Unfortunately, these places had all happened exactly when the camera cut to another angle and the moment was lost :(

    I remember seeing this trick back in middle school, and it's still amazing to this day.
    Think I like this trick more now, because there is so much more you can do with it. The shuffle manipulation is a great way to force a card to the bottom or top, however, some people (the buggers) can notice what is being done (if they're sober...heh heh). So you could add a riffle shuffle in there, while still keeping the card at the bottom. It seems whenever I do tricks, that always makes the audience believe that the deck is truly shuffled.
    I mean, there's just so many more things you can do, but at the same time you have to be careful. The more steps you add in to the trick, the more chance there is for a slip up :<
    All in all, a great trick though.

      tadaskay ive known this one for a while now, my routine is
      1. what brushwood does with the card control
      2. hindu shuffle allowing them to tell me when to stop, i drop the deck to the table and square the "shuffled" cards
      3. i do a few false cuts
      3. riffle a few times (i let them tell me how many)
      4.proceed with the trick letting them think im fucking up and hand it to them in the end

    In the performance you could see that he showed the three of clubs ♣️ twice. The second time and the time that he showed two cards
