    I fell in love with Da Vinci when I got Denise’s Earth Friendly palette. I realized that it’s the perfect palette to paint portraits, especially of People of Color. It’s easily my favorite paint brand, and I love buying directly from Da Vinci over third party stores because Da Vinci actually ships them faster.

      Hi and thank you so much for watching and commenting! I’m so happy you enjoy Da Vinci paints! I agree-they are very special and so transparent. Perfect for portraiture. I have a playlist of Da Vinci videos I’ve done if you’re interested-it’s under the playlist tab on my home page.
      Happy painting!

    I am a huge fan of DaVinci watercolours, I have four (yes, four) of the Denise Soden Earth palettes because (with the addition of a Paynes grey), it’s simply the best plein air landscape palette I’ve ever used. I even keep one at my Mum’s house over in the UK. Along with some Daniel Smith, DaVinci watercolours make up my Ultimate studio palette which contains my most loved colours regardless of brand. Schmincke were my favourites for many years, but then DS and DV blew them out the water 😂. Their earth colours are stunning, bold, easy to wet and never cause me any hassle with streaking or drying up. All their PBr7 earths are spectacular. By the way, I moved to Colorado 24 years ago from England and I’ve been painting in watercolours for over 45 years.

      I love everything you’ve said here and couldn’t agree more!!
      I didn’t know you are in Colorado-I host monthly plein air sessions in the nicer weather months. If you’d like to join in on those (free!) I can email you the dates & locations. artwithnonna@gmail.com

      @vatiammatri2660 you are so welcome Vati! However, once I’ve read your comment now, I feel like I have to go to the da Vinci website and do a little bit of shopping!!!!! I have had the Denise Soden earth friendly set on my imaginary shopping list for a long time maybe it’s time to finally commit! You certainly make that Alizarin Crimson sound pretty irresistible❤️❤️

      @@artonthecreek it's the best palette I have! Their earth colors are gorgeous, plus Stormy Blue, her green... it's perfect. I did order a tube of Manganese Blue PB33 and Phthalo Turquoise PB16 as well I think. The only thing is that the pans go a little quick compared to other brands in some of the pans, not all, in my experience. But it's so lovely it's OK. They also offer a 60% off tubes in the late Spring which is amazing pricing with those 37ml tubes. Just fyi ☺️ 🎨

    I'm surprised they didn't include their two new colors, Denise's Gray and Stormy Blue (both in the Embrace Opacity set). They're mixes and color separate.
    If you dilute the Sea Glass generously, it really does look like sea glass. Beautiful color! I love Da Vinci paints. ❤

      @@artonthecreek you’re welcome! do you happen to know of a watercolor sketchbook that is a bright white paper? Not off-white? I’m trying to find one that is extra white for the dot set. ❤️

    • @artonthecreek
      @artonthecreek  Місяць тому +1

      @Ncstefanie yes, actually! Cheap Joe’s has one in their 100% cotton Kilimanjaro in bright white: www.cheapjoes.com/kilimanjaro-original-bright-white-watercolor-paintbooks.html
      Bockingford Spiral Fat Pad: www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/bockingford-spiral-fat-pad-300gsm-a5-25-sheets-ultra-smooth-botanical-hot-pressed
      These are only 2 - if you’re looking for a block you have options in Fabriano, they make an Extra White, and also in Saunders Waterford. They call theirs High White.
      I hope that helps! I’m sure you can find other options online-these are simply the ones I am familiar with. Arches has a bright white but might only be single sheets? I’m not sure on that one.
      It’s been my experience that Fabriano Artistico is the whitest and brightest 😊😎, and Hahnemühle and Etchr might have a bright white as well-it escapes me at the moment.
      Happy hunting!

    Da Vinci hands down provided the best dot samplers. The unique egg carton structures they put them in is great and the amount of paint they give you per dot is more than double than what other dot samplers, like Daniel Smith or Schmincke, give you. And on top of all that they give you free shipping? Can't be beat! And Da Vinci will regularly update their samplers to include their new colors, yet they won't raise the price! I highly recommend them to any US watercolor artist looking into getting their first artist grade tubes of paint.

    At first, I liked the format of their sample set, but now I'm wondering if it's a hindrance? Regardless, I am a fan of Da Vinci's watercolors. Really great to see all of these swatched out. 😀

    • @artonthecreek
      @artonthecreek  Рік тому +1

      Yes, Irene-totally agree. It seemed like such an ingenious idea-and the dots are so generous! The paints are lovely, and I’m excited to build a palette of my favorites. The packaging of the dots takes away the ability to make the paints activated in different viscosities🫤 it’s a little rough-feeling, too, which is slightly odd.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      I have a smaller set of their dots as well as an expanding collection. Soulshine, alizarin gold, Joyce's mother green and violet, and the manganese blue mix are some of my faves, and I think I'll just have to break down and order sea glass when I order Denise's gray. I've found that the paper I use really makes a big difference in the intensity of these paints. When I use the dots I slice them off the cardboard and put the paint in a small ceramic pallet with a bunch of little wells so they behave properly. Thanks for your videos! This one made my eyes happy.

      @@brittabeningfield3472 Hi there! Now…why didn’t I think of slicing the dots out of the container?! Genius!🤩 Thank you so much! That would literally solve my one problem with these paints.
