Thanks for the review. This was 5 years ago. Do you have any updated comments if one is looking into this lens? Has anything better for the price come out? Tempted to start a full CCTV collection because of the price haha.
Also, I have the 35mm version and noticed that the labels for the aperture and focus ends up being on the bottom after attaching to my camera, is this the case with the 25mm you have? (because I noticed you mentioned modifying the c-mount adapter) Thanks, Mike
+Michael Valenti Hi Mike, mine are offset a little! The modification was for the locating pin on the GH4, I had to make the hole in the adaptor ring a little bigger using a needle file. Mick

+ritesh mallik Hello Ritesh! Thanks for watching and commenting. I made another video - Three Easy Steps to get the Film Look - I discuss my settings in that video. In brief, whether I am shooting 4K or 1080, I film at 25fps and 1/50 second shutter speed. I then adjust aperture and ISO. When using the CCTV lens, I try to set its aperture as wide as possible (f1.4) and adjust ISO to achieve that wherever possible. For most of my videos, I set the GH4 ISO as low as possible - often 200 ISO. I set the picture profiles according to what I want to achieve. For the CCTV lens stuff, I usually start with CinelikeD and then lower all the sliders to -5 which gives a washed out filmic appearance. I then adjust in post if necessary. For my general videos, I use CinelikeD sometimes and others just standard. My normal everyday videos are rarely altered in post - I use straight from the camera and only tweak lightness or darkness if I need to. Hope that helps Ritesh. Take care, Cheers, Mick

Mick you have done a truly marvelous job of reviewing this lens and sharing your expertise with us, for me this tutorial is priceless an awesome. Thanks again for the extraordinary cinema work. Can I be able to use these TV C-mount lenses on my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K Micro Four Thirds?
+Mick Grewcock thanks for the cool video, the editing and lighting gives it a unique look. I have one of those lens laying around somewhere going to go blow the dust of it.
Okay, so i just got the lens adapter for the CCTV Lens 1/3" 5-55MM F1.4 CS Japan i got on ebay for my Nikon D3400. This one does not seem to work so far (focal length too short for 35mm) but its night so im using a table lamp. The focus does not seem to do anything. It seems it will be more akin to a variable pinhole adapter since the fucos is controlled by the aperature size which is hidden on the side opposite the other two zoom and focus knobs. cant wait till morning to try it out in daylight.
yeah, they don't focus at all. I got one of these lenses a few days later hoping for a picture like you show here but no luck with it either. It focuses on stuff held in my hand right in front of the lens. About 4 inches in front of the lens. Not much else.
+Eugene Shevchenko Hello Eugene, I have no experience of that camera. I know that the GH4 has an extended teleconverter setting (where the camera uses central part of the sensor). I have heard of people solving vignetting problems on GH4 with other lenses by using this setting. Does the G6 have this setting? Mick
WOW! You've convinced me on the close up shots of the gun. Looks brilliant. How were you setting up the shot of you and your dog going over the fence? Mini tripod? Looks very close to the ground in those wet conditions.
That was beautiful shooting, Sir. I just noticed (on a local online shop app) a 25mm F1.8 Mini CCTV C Mount Wide Angle lens, for about $46 or 40 Pounds, and couldn't find the exact one on UA-cam and I'm expecting good results, so please do tell me about this one before I purchase it and which digital cameras will it be best for?
That was very good, your shooting and editing is in very good taste.I wonder what the modification to the adapter that might be and if I’d be up to the task...Maybe you’ve already answered this question below but you got lots of comments...Anyway,thanks for the video.
I had no idea a C Mount lens could achieve this high of quality! I pretty much adapt everything to my Fuji's for shooting video, so after watching this video, I absolutely bought one! The one I bought is for a APS-C sensor, 25mm f1.4 with Fuji adapter, and two macro extensions. This should be fun!
Great video. I've been eyeing cctv lenses to fill in for my current set. I need something on the wide angle lens front and so far the stuff in my budget are cctv lenses.
I love your video! It is very well made & interesting. There are a couple of things more about "the film look" that youi are doing in this video but not mentioning that are really needed to get "the film look". They are of course framing, lighting, shot angle, and pace., among others. Good film begins in our imaginations.
Mick, noticing some of the shots have sort of a radial warp to them. The up close shots are incredible, wide shots, like at 1:11 or like at 2:51 have that sort of peep hole rounded look. Any way to combat that? Either way, awesome cheap lens!
Hi there, the 'peep-hole' effect is reduced at smaller apertures - but I rather like it wide open (largely why I bought the lens). The effect is in fact very gentle vignetting at wide apertures on the GH4. I just use it when I want that 'other-worldly' effect. Thanks for watching. Atb, Mick
hi, have this lens once, used on panasonic lumix gf2, but the result shows vignette..but on your video seems there are no vignette, are you cropping the video? thanks
Hi there, no I'm not cropping the video at all. What you see - in terms of framing etc - is straight from camera. Not sure why you are getting that problem but others have said the same. Sorry I can't advise on that but thanks for watching. Atb, Mick
+Michael Valenti Hi Michael, thanks for watching and commenting! I trained Ben from a pup to jump obstacles - it's safer for the dog when they know how to jump safely and when commanded. I started with tiny fences and then worked him up as he grew bigger. It was only a small step then to teach him to jump over a fence but keep below the wire that I pull up for him! Have a great day Michael, Mick
Hello, I need help please. I bought a Pentax/Cosmicar 8.5mm F1.5 C-Mount 2/3" lens I got a C-mount to M43 converter and mounted it on my Lumix GX7 The lens won't focus unless the object is VERY close to the lens, It's like I need to make the lens closer to the sensor. Plus I don't have full coverage of the sensor (very big black borders) unless I activate the ETC, but that wasn't my goal. Any solution for the problems I'm facing?
Not familiar with your lens. My 25mm was supplied with extension (macro) tubes which if fitted create an effect similar to what you describe. Make sure non have been fitted to your lens. My GH4 & 5 require ‘use without lens’ enabled also. Sorry can’t help more. Good luck.
+DjMikeMic Hi there! Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a look at my video 'Three Easy Steps to get the film look' where I mention camera settings. If that doesn't answer your questions, just message me and I'll help if I can. All this best, Mick
I have one of the 35/1.7 Fujian lenses that I like quite a lot. I also have the 50/1.4, but it is too fat for the adapter I have. I'm dying to use it on my G3. Thanks for the video review... what a fun watch and what a great dog! The dog was worth the watch! :)
Hi David and thanks for watching. Fun lenses I think, but I've added a 25mm Panasonic f1.7 recently because there are some limitations with the CCTV lens - focussing is a real pain when I'm in a hurry. But the CCTV does give great filmic images though! Mick
i was wondering what size format these fill, without crop or doubling , im looking at cosmicar's but im not giving 50 to 100 dollar for a adapted manual lens when i can spend another 100$ with no loss of features(18mm nikkor) are these 1/2 or 2/3 or are they made to fill a 16mm format, because the price is good, but if they vignette not so much, nice looking video by the way , was really for raw foot
Hi there. My only experience with this lens is on micro four thirds cameras - specifically the Panasonic GH series. It's a c-mount lens for CCTV and I don't get vignetting, though the edge quality of the image is not good - but that's the glass, not vignetting. There is no point buying this lens if you are seeking quality - it will not compare with a Nikkor lens. I wanted the lens for specific situations and effect - shallow depth of field and a 'dreamy' look. The fact that it is inexpensive is just a bonus to me. If you want Nikkor quality, I suggest you buy a Nikkor lens. If you want to create a 'filmic' atmosphere on a budget and use M43 cameras, then this lens is worth a look. Thanks for watching. Mick
i actually have a cheap 2/3 macro (12$ computar) that i double that blows away my kit lens(cheap junk) as well as a 600$ nikkor zoom(great for sports) as far as charity, and the back ground isn't comparable by any means, but i wouldn't mind having something like that, that i could use in low light conditions (without doubling) on the cheap , cropping isn't actually that bad a deal on the 1" nikon , as square as it is, a little off the top and bottom makes the look allot better, but now that i finally figured out how to set my auto focus settings up (its allot less skill involved, as far your handling goes) im not sure if i want a manual portrait lens , but i do need one of some kind , and thank you for your reply, well said .
the clarity of that lens is allot better than a nikkor kit lens , most of the 1 inch format lenses aren't worth having , there are a few that are very nice lenses , and a couple of them are reasonably priced for what your getting, but most are poorly constructed, cheap materials and components , nothing like the quality of the dx series .
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting. Fascinated by the Chinese 8mm fisheye - do you have a link to that on eBay please? Many thanks, Mick
Here you go big Mick, this is an Amazon link, might be better than eBay. I'm intrigued as well considering it's 64. Bucks and the Olympus 7-14 I wanted is like 1300! Look it over and tell me what you think bro, www.amazon.com/Generic-Fish-eye-Micro-Thirds-Camera/dp/B016B24KKQ
Mick Grewcock One more thing Mick, this Opteka is a bit more expensive at $169. and its made for apsc sensors, it is another one im researching. later www.amazon.com/Opteka-Aspherical-Fisheye-Panasonic-Mirrorless/dp/B00SYY25XY/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1466247762&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=opteka+6.5mm+panasonic&psc=1
Cheers Ray, both look very interesting. Certainly I like the look/price of the 8mm CCTV - it's £56 UK pounds on eBay. Am away from home for a while soon but will get the 8mm afterwards and experiment with it. t's a bargain compared to branded high-end lenses - especially if it's only for occasional use. By the way, I subbed your UA-cam channel!! Take care, Mick
I recently found a cctv lens Waiston 6 mm 1.2 (c mount) ..do you think this lens would work on my Olympus EM 10 MKii? Of course, with the adapter included.Thank you!
1:32 I've been playing around with a very old all metal helios 58/f2 today so I 'll have no problems with that... but I do want a lighter lens that doesn't jut out as much...
Hi there, I'm not sure that it is suited to a 60D. However, it won't focus in the normal way (only very, very close) if you have the macro extension rings fitted. Have you checked to make sure they are not fitted? Atb, Mick
You might have a macro extension ring inadvertently. See if you can take anything off the lens. If that is not the case here are some thoughts: The distance between the rear element of the lens and the sensor on canon cameras is much larger than on micro four thirds cameras. This is due to the mirror inside, which reflects light up to the optical view finder. If you just mounted this lens directly to your canon 60d using a very thin mount, (ie: the lens is already as close to the camera's sensor as possible) I suspect that you will have to push this lens farther inside the camera than is possible to make it work. This is because CCTV cameras do not have a mirror in front of the sensor, and are designed to work with the sensor being very close to the rear lens element. Either that or you must move the lens away from the sensor, however this usually makes lenses more macro, which enables you to focus on things very close to the lens. However I do not think this will work. I do not own this lens, but I know a bit about camera technology. I hope this helped. :)
Just wondering what brand this was. I was looking at a Pixco 25mm on Aliexpress. Some cctvs are apparently super soft on the edges at all apertures but if yours was a Pixco how do you find it.
George Peverill Fujian and Pixco might be the same lens - can’t be sure. It seems there are several ‘brands’ that are the same. Mine is soft at the edges - I wouldn’t like it if it wasn’t. That - in my opinion - is the charm of these lenses. They give a dreamy image which I find useful in video especially. Don’t expect a perfect lens at this price - but you can expect to be able to create interesting images/video using these cheap cctv lenses. Good luck!
@@MickGrewcock I have an 8mm vivom f1.3 and a 16 mm cosmicar 1.6 but it's fixed aperture. I have my C mount adapter on the way and then I'll be able to use these two lenses the only other wonky thing is the thread size I'm going to need some how to get it from 25 mm and 35 mm up to 55 mm of my ND filter
George Peverill You’ve set yourself a challenge George! Fun experimenting with lenses - currently enjoying using vintage Pentax and Helios lenses. Enjoy!
@@georgepeverill6116 I use a Vlitrox with a Tokina 11-16mm Canon EF fit on GH4 & GH5. Had no problems with it, good value and results are very pleasing to my eye. Used it on my two latest 'Our Corner of England' videos if you want to check out the results.
It’s not the type of camera that matters - it’s the coverage of the lens. I believe they vignette on APSC and obviously full frame. Okay on a MFT sensor though.
it seems I'm the only unfortunate one who buys cctv lenses (not this one) which don't work well on M4/3 but only on very small sensors. The distance from the sensor is wrong, too far and I only get macro photos with awkward vignetting. Can you confirm that this does not happen with this lens and that it can be used on M4/3 without having to edit the videos and do crops?
I've owned one of these lenses for years so I'm not sure what prompted me to click on a review but I'm glad I did. Excellent video, great shots and a fun watch.

Great video sir! I have exactly the same lens and the GH3. Incredible combo, I plan to shoot an entire short film with them soon.
+SciFi Stu Hi there! Thanks for watching and commenting. A useful lens. Do you plan to post your film to UA-cam? Cheers, Mick
+Mick Grewcock
Hi Mick, yes more than likely! I'll post a link here when I do!
Cheers!
+SciFi Stu Great, look forward to that. Cheers, Mick
That was very good, your shooting and editing is in very good taste.I wonder what the modification to the adapter that might be and if I’d be up to the task...Maybe you’ve already answered this question below but you got lots of comments...Anyway,thanks for the video.
+rubs troll Glad you enjoyed and thx for watching. Mick
Great review! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you! Appreciate you watching and commenting. Atb, Mick
Cheers, Mick! hope the weather clears up soon! Eddie
Oh I wish! Cheers, Mick
Hello! What modification you needed to do for the adapter? I am looking forward to purchase one for a GH5. Thank you!
It was to rectify a fault with the adaptor, not a modification as such. All being well, the one you buy will be fine. Good luck.
Lovely review! Will buy one to use on my A6000.. thank you :)
Hi Pava, thanks - glad it was a help. Enjoy your new lens. Atb, Mick
Wow... love your style man truly great video
Thank you Andrew, appreciated. Mick
Nice review! Footage looks very filmic
Thank you Iain - your comment appreciated! Atb, MIck
Hi Steve, hope you enjoy - within its limits it's a great little lens. Thanks for watching. Mick
what real FF equal focus lenth you got with it on fuji? view angle look like?
Great video. I've been eyeing cctv lenses to fill in for my current set. I need something on the wide angle lens front and so far the stuff in my budget are cctv lenses.
Good luck!
Lovely video montage, agreed I have bought a few of these for my Olympus OM-10, they are great
Thanks for the info! You have a great dog, too!
+ObscuraFilms No problem! He's a great pal. Cheers, Mick
Nice vids Mr. Grewcock! I just bought a 35mm cctv lens for my epl6 but still practice on it. It's nice lens for price!
Thank you! Good luck with your lens. Mick
what about the lights you use indoor? Are they studio lights? All the best
I used an LED video light for that film. Thanks for watching. Mick
Really great footage. I expect a lot of skill and experience goes into getting such visually stunning video from such a inexpensive lens.
Thank you!!!
Your macro shots are fantastic!
I am your 1000st subscriber! Love your video
You are! Fantastic and thank you. Appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video. Atb, Mick
Superbe images. Congrats.
Thank you. Atb, Mick
I love your video! It is very well made & interesting. There are a couple of things more about "the film look" that youi are doing in this video but not mentioning that are really needed to get "the film look". They are of course framing, lighting, shot angle, and pace., among others. Good film begins in our imaginations.
Great video review and footage! Just found your channel today. You earned a sub!
Hi David - great, thank you so much for the sub. Appreciate you letting know. Hope you enjoy my other videos. Atb, Mick
NIce video Mick. I've just bought a Canon EOS M to have a play with these kinds of lens so am digging deep into UA-cam to find advice and tips.
mind sharing with me some shots / video taken with the M? as i have one as well and for some reason on the fence for this...
Atb, Mick
Gotcha, thanks for the explanation!
No worries, a pleasure!
what is the focus length? how far back do you have to stand to get an American or full body shot?
Does the wide aperture work well for low light? I'm interested in doing wide angle city lights and crowds with this lense. Thank you!
Yes it does, and gives good bokeh, but you do get soft edges - which I like. Great for the money! Mick
veautifully made, loved to watch this!!!!!!
Thank you! Mick
hi, have this lens once, used on panasonic lumix gf2, but the result shows vignette..but on your video seems there are no vignette, are you cropping the video? thanks
Hi there, no I'm not cropping the video at all. What you see - in terms of framing etc - is straight from camera. Not sure why you are getting that problem but others have said the same. Sorry I can't advise on that but thanks for watching. Atb, Mick
The GH4 crops in 4k mode, that is why.
How did you train your dog to jump through the gate? That was a fantastic shot to end on as well.
-Mike
+Michael Valenti Hi Michael, thanks for watching and commenting! I trained Ben from a pup to jump obstacles - it's safer for the dog when they know how to jump safely and when commanded. I started with tiny fences and then worked him up as he grew bigger. It was only a small step then to teach him to jump over a fence but keep below the wire that I pull up for him! Have a great day Michael, Mick
Hello,
I need help please.
I bought a Pentax/Cosmicar 8.5mm F1.5 C-Mount 2/3" lens
I got a C-mount to M43 converter and mounted it on my Lumix GX7
The lens won't focus unless the object is VERY close to the lens, It's like I need to make the lens closer to the sensor.
Good luck.
1 - Thanks for doing this video. It's great!
2 - Thank you for introducing me to The Passion HiFi
+Chris Kohls You are welcome on both counts sir! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Mick
Awesome video. What settings? Nice!

Mick
i actually have a cheap 2/3 macro (12$ computar) that i double that blows away my kit lens(cheap junk) as well as a 600$ nikkor zoom(great for sports) as far as charity, and the back ground isn't comparable by any means, but i wouldn't mind having something like that, that i could use in low light conditions (without doubling) on the cheap , cropping isn't actually that bad a deal on the 1" nikon , as square as it is, a little off the top and bottom makes the look allot better, but now that i finally figured out how to set my auto focus settings up (its allot less skill involved, as far your handling goes) im not sure if i want a manual portrait lens , but i do need one of some kind , and thank you for your reply, well said .
the clarity of that lens is allot better than a nikkor kit lens , most of the 1 inch format lenses aren't worth having , there are a few that are very nice lenses , and a couple of them are reasonably priced for what your getting, but most are poorly constructed, cheap materials and components , nothing like the quality of the dx series .
excellent lens review.. thank you
Fresh Edit and review Mick. cctv lenses do have wuite a cult following. Im looking into a chinese 8mm fisheye one on Ebay,
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting.
Thanks for that! I'll have a look.Cheers, Mick
Mick Grewcock One more thing Mick, this Opteka is a bit more expensive at $169. and its made for apsc sensors, it is another one im researching. later

Fantastic review by the way! :)
Ha, the jumping dog! Glad you liked, thanks again. Mick
I recently found a cctv lens Waiston 6 mm 1.2 (c mount) ..do you think this lens would work on my Olympus EM 10 MKii? Of course, with the adapter included.Thank you!
Hi Dan. I couldn’t say - it might vignette badly, it might work! Never tried a similar lens. Sorry can’t be more helpful.
@@MickGrewcock Ok,thank you very much!
going this lens for lumix g70? And have the 25mm vignating?

any compatible lens adapter for using this lens upon canon eos 550 D??
Hello, I am not sure - my only experience is with Panasonic GH4. Sorry can't help. Mick
thanks . great video .I'll have one
+igodua given Thanks for your comment! Mick
I bought this for my canon 60d and i cannot get the focus to change at all. Just complete blur. What am I doing wrong?
Hi there, I'm not sure that it is suited to a 60D. However, it won't focus in the normal way (only very, very close) if you have the macro extension rings fitted. Have you checked to make sure they are not fitted? Atb, Mick
You might have a macro extension ring inadvertently. See if you can take anything off the lens.
If that is not the case here are some thoughts:
The distance between the rear element of the lens and the sensor on canon cameras is much larger than on micro four thirds cameras.
Enjoy!
@@MickGrewcock My favorite so far is my Minolta 50mm ROKKOR PG F1.7. I am throwing around the idea of eventually getting a Viltrox Speedbooster.
😅 SEXIEST lens review I've ever seen in my life, sir!! This lens has SOUL!! I'm getting one. Thanks, Mick, and best wishes.
could I use this lens for my olympus e pl2? thanks!
Not sure, sorry
Mick is it any good 4 taking pics?
Munze Konza Yes it’s fine but it depends what you want from your lens. I’d suggest there might be better options for stills.
did you have to use some sort of cropping on the gh4?
No
This lens works only in mirrorless or could it work in a DSLR like Canon SL3?
It’s not the type of camera that matters - it’s the coverage of the lens. I believe they vignette on APSC and obviously full frame. Okay on a MFT sensor though.
great video
+Alonso Banuelos (mashmarony) Hi Alonso, thank you very much for your sub and comment. Both very much appreciated. Mick

Did they produce for e-mount now?
I am not sure Zac. Check out Amazon or eBay - you should be able to find out. Sorry that I can't help immediately. Thanks for watching, Mick
Mick Grewcock It's ok. I saw one advertisement in Aliexpress, they give free adapter for e-mount.
Zach Ahmad 👍
The spiral bokeh is amazing!!
Zach Ahmad Great stuff 👍
it seems I'm the only unfortunate one who buys cctv lenses (not this one) which don't work well on M4/3 but only on very small sensors. The distance from the sensor is wrong, too far and I only get macro photos with awkward vignetting. Can you confirm that this does not happen with this lens and that it can be used on M4/3 without having to edit the videos and do crops?
What you see on the screen is what came out of the camera. Inevitably the quality of the lens means the edges are soft but I didn’t crop.
Nice video, thank you.
works in nx500?thanks
I am not sure, sorry! Atb, Mick
