    I bought the 35mm f1.7 with adapter and it's such a fun lens and the apprature dial lets me shoot in incredibly dark situations. My glass needed cleaning as it produced a halo around the center which actually was interesting. More lenses equals more fun especially at the price.

    I just bought your recommended lens for $26.00 on Amazon. That is one of the best yet. I also bought a prime lens at Value Village for $9.00 which is one of my best lenses but this Fujian is good too.

    Just picked this 35mm and also the 25mm f/1.4 version to play with. They cost me £42 including delivery which is a bargain. I seldom shoot video and never shoot vlogs but I'm aiming to use them mainly for video because they look fun. Very nice review.

      This happened to me I bought two adapters C to M43 only one worked properly. The one that I bought from the DinoDirect that sold me the lens.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому +1

      On your T3i, you'll only be able to use the Fujian as a macro lens. Everything appears out of focus because you need to move the camera super close to the subject to focus.
      This isn't the case when the Fujian is adapted to a mirrorless camera. Because the T3i is a DSLR, the lens cannot be mounted close enough to the image sensor to let you focus at far away things.

    Hey Micrhomatic, amateur question but... I have a Panasonic GH3 and this Fujian lens, how come I see other people able to get focus on more distant visuals...while when I use this lens, it seems like I can only focus on things about 1 to 2 feet infront of me? any suggestions on what I'm not doing correctly? thanks

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      +the myth This will happen if the back of the lens is not able to get close enough to your image sensor, which can be caused by one of two things: (1) The mount adapter doesn't allow it, or (2) you have a macro ring in between the back of the lens and the mount adapter. Mostly like is (2). A friend of mine bought a Fujian on eBay and it came with a macro ring that fits between the lens and the mount adapter. If you remove the ring, you can still connect the lens to the adapter and then be able to focus to infinity.

  • @surrealchemist
    @surrealchemist 9 років тому

    I have the 25mm one and the focus distance makes it a real pain to use. Maybe it is just the one I have, but I pretty much couldn't get anything in focus wide open which was kind of a bummer. I also picked up a 50mm 1.8 Canon FD mount lens for $30 and adapted that which works great.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      Joshua Kleiner What's the focus issue you have? Does it only focus close up?
      Some of these Fujian lenses will come with an optional macro adapter ring. The ring fits in between the lens and the mount adapter, and when the ring is connected the lens won't focus on distant subjects.

    • @surrealchemist
      @surrealchemist 9 років тому

      Yeah it can focus something pretty close wide open but if you go to something 5 feet away you can't focus on it. The one I got was bought off eBay after hearing about these from a blog post somewhere. I don't see any macro on it. I might pick up the other focal length off amazon to try that out.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому +1

      Joshua Kleiner Check out this photo, which shows the three commons parts of these CCTV lenses. On the right is (1) the adapter ring, in the center is (2) the lens, and on the left is (3) the macro ring. Try unscrewing the parts of your lens and removing the macro ring, if you have one. You only need (1) and (2).

    Would this lens work with extension rings for close-ups of flowers and other natural subjects? I've been thinking that I need something faster than my Olympus ED 14-42 EZ, which at best is f3.5. So I'm wondering if the Fujian would be a cheap alternative to an Olympus or Panasonic prime lens for this sort of work. Btw, the link you gave is not to this lens. However, I found it by searching on Amazon.

    Enjoyed your video, quite informative. Sure wish you would resist movement (zooming etc) in showing your photos. You spend a good deal of time with showing the lens and adapters but when it's time to see the results of the lens featured (the reason why we would want to use one of these lens) suddenly we are given a very hurried (plus constant movement) view of the photos. Hard to evaluate the assets of the lens under such conditions.

      Yours may have come with a macro ring, which will let it focus very closely but prevent it from focusing to infinity. Separate the lens from the adapter and see if there's a macro ring mounted between them. • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      My lens came with an adapter, just a small, thin metal ring.
      Sometimes the lens comes with (a) this thin metal adapter, AND (b) a macro adapter ring which is a bit thicker and connects between the lens and the thin metal adapter. You may have both -- if you want to focus on faraway subjects, remove the macro adapter in between the lens + thin metal ring.

    Thank you. Looks classy. I have the same lens, but for some reason it focus only up to about 1 feet. Micro looks great though. And, I don't see any additional micro rings on the rear. No focus to infinity. How did you figure it out? The bench shot is marvelous.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      +respekt200 If the lens won't focus to infinity (far away objects), it's because the lens isn't getting close enough to the image sensor. Usually this is because (1) you have a macro ring, which sounds like it's not the case for you, or (2) the adapter just doesn't allow the lens to mount correctly. Another adapter may help.

    So I recently got a hold of one of these and I get this horrible flare circle in the middle of the image when trying to focus the closest to the camera, my theory is that as the glass pushes forward more light comes into the side of the glass and creates this upseting effect. In some cases it's kinda artsy if you may, but annoying still.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      Is the flare visible all the time? I got pretty noticeable flare with this lens, but only when pointing it at light sources.

    • @zerchy888
      @zerchy888 8 років тому

      Not all the time, just as the focus point is closer to the camera and there are light sources hitting the sides of the lens, that's what i've noticed at least.
      On a comment bellow somebody said it was because it needed cleaning. How can I do this the safest way possible and what do I need?
      I have no cleaning kit.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      Ariel Vazquez If it's a new lens, I highly doubt it needs cleaning. The flare you're describing sounds 100% normal for this lens. Just search "fujian 35mm flare."
      You can unscrew the Fujian lens to access all of the pieces, but it's a pain in the butt to get back together in the right order. I don't recommend it.

      Krish V Raja With the right adapter, yes, you can use this lens on an A6000.
      Note that because the A6000 has a larger sensor, you're more likely to see vignetting with a Fujian lens. That just means the outer corners of the photo will be dark.

      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      +pepe59650 Is your video showing that when the lens is set to focus at infinity -- according to the label on the front of the lens -- that it is in fact focused past infinity? That's what I got from the video.
      This is a fairly common problem. Even expensive lenses often need to be backed off of "infinity" on the focus ring in order to get proper focus on distant objects, ESPECIALLY when you're using an adapter. The Fujian lenses are pretty cheaply-made, and they will suffer from this.
      I essentially never use the guides on the front of the lens, and just focus through the viewfinder.

    Hi! i have a Fujian 50mm 1.4 (with no macro ring). My camera is a Nikon d90 (DSLR)... Is there any solution to "macro restriction" problem? something like an adapter with crystal included. I took an adapter like that but only works with M42-mount (i did´t realize until i received it), i need a C-mount adapter that allows me to use the infinity focus on my camera.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      ***** I don't know of anything that will solve your problem, and my best guess is that it can't be solved.
      On your DSLR, the distance between the back of the lens and the image sensor is too far -- this is what prevents the lens from focusing further away. You can try this with a normal Nikon lens. Remove the lens and pull it away from the image sensor by a few millimeters. If you look through the camera, you'll see that the focus distance moves much closer. C-mount lenses are made to attach really close to the image sensor on the camera, but it's not possible on DSLRs.

      35mm filter thread I believe.

    Hi, thanks for the video. Could you fit a hood to this lens and what size would it need to be?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      My copy of this lens has a 35mm filter thread (but other versions might differ). I haven't been able to find any lens hoods in this size, but you could get a step-up ring to convert from 35mm to, say, 46mm and then easily find a lens hood for that size.

    Comparing to Olympus 45mm which is better?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      Between the Fujian and the 45mm? It's not even close, the 45mm is a much better lens, objectively.
      There are still times when I prefer to use the Fujian, though, and of course the Fujian costs about 1/10th of what the Olympus 45mm costs. But for your money, the 45mm gives you autofocus and razor-sharp image quality that the Fujian can't match.

      Many thanks, then I guess I've made the right choice, with 45mm))

    for aps-c camera. will this (or the 25mm 1.4) create a heavy vignetting on the corners?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому

      The 35mm will vignette a bit, but I believe it's not too bad. The 25mm will like vignette very badly on APS-C -- even on M43 it's significant vignetting.

      +Michromatic I am deciding which one should I get for Panasonic G6. Would you recommend 25 or 35? Main use for it will be video. I´d rather go for 25mm because it´s easier for me to hold it steady while filming just from hand. But do you think the vignetting will be a huge difference between 25 and 35?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  8 років тому +1

      Lukáš Lacina The Fujian 25/1.4 definitely vignettes more than the 35/1.7. It's not too bad, but it is very noticeable.

      Yes, you'll need a C-mount to E-mount / NEX adapter. Here's one that comes with the right adapter: amzn.to/2DSbS06

      Yes, same lens. I've bought from that same link twice -- once it was branded "Fujian," second time the lens had "Fotasy" branding, both cases the exact same lens.

      +Zatoichiable If you don't mind manually focusing, and you position the subject in the center of the frame, it'll do. Do know that this lens imparts a certain aesthetic on the image -- it's not clinically clean like most native glass.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  7 років тому

      No, I'm afraid not possible. Generally, there are far fewer options for adapting lenses to DSLR cameras versus mirrorless because of the distance between the lens mount and the image sensor.

    Is there a cheap wide angle lens like this one, with adapter for m43?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      M7mmed Yousef There are some wide angle C-mounts, yes. I think I've seen a 10 or 12mm. BUT these lenses tend to vignette when attached to a Micro 4/3 camera, because the lenses were made for smaller sensors.
      I've recently found out about a C-mount fisheye lens which looks to cover the Micro 4/3 sensor completely -- no vignetting! But it's not as cheap as this Fujian. The fisheye goes for about $75 USD.

    Do you know if we can use it with focus peaking on a olympus e-m10 ?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому

      Alexandre Fedi Yes, you can.
      Note that there are two different ways to engage focus peaking on the EM10. (1) Focus peaking starts automatically when the lens is manually focused, or (2) you press a button to enable/disable focus peaking.
      The first (1) mode won't work with this Fujian lens. Because it has no electronic connection between the lens and the camera, the camera won't know when you're twisting the focus ring manually. However, (2) totally works. Map focus peaking to a button and peak away.

    • @AlexandreFedi
      @AlexandreFedi 9 років тому

      Michromatic Thanks a lot, and is it possible to use semi-automatic modes (like aperture mode), or we must to use manual mode only and find the good exposition ? And does the stabilisation work ?
      Thanks for all !

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  9 років тому +1

      Alexandre Fedi Everything works except for: (a) autofocus, and (b) automatic aperture.
      So you can use still Aperture-priority mode no problem (but Shutter-priority won't really work), and yes you can use stabilization. With the stabilization, you just have to manually set the focal length in the camera -- normally, the camera detects the focal length electronically and adjusts the stabilization accordingly.

      When it flares, it sure does flare bad :) It's a fun effect to get legitimately, normally if I wanted something like that I'd have to use Photoshop...but yeah, most of the time I'm not particularly looking for the flare effect.

    • @zampination
      @zampination 9 років тому

      Do you have to crop your pictures in post to get rid off potential vigneting issues due to the large size of the APS-C sensor? I have the a5100 and i really want this lens but probably i won't get it if there's such an issue.
