i doubt someone would spend 50000 euros to replace the rotten parts, sadly this is a part vehicle, even if you did yourself is too much gone, it isnt a Ferrari
flexiny is the sort of guy you would want to have around during the apocolypse, can get anything that has a motor running....sorta mad max style the master mechanic who keeps everyone vehicles running no matter what! what a lad :)
Great van. There are still some of these old Hanomag-based MB's still in uses in shipyards here and there in my area of Brittany, west of France. They are still in good condition, visually, at least. No doubt they are though.
It shows what a great design it was. Henschel designed Hanomag built it and MB kept it going. We didn't get many in USA. A company did RV conversions on them. Look up Silver Streak Hanomag . I'd love one of the rare Westfalia style USA RV conversions .
I have been following your channel for two years, thank you for the mercedes l206d. This car was the model that my grandfather praised and used for 15 years, it was his favorite car, thank you.
I recently bought an old van that had also been standing for 15 years. I thought it would not start but to my surprise, I put a new battery on it and it started the first time. better and faster than my car! Old diesel engines are indestructible!
This reminds me, in a way, of one of the vehicles we used to drive to and from our work site in Berlin back the in the period 1970-72. It was a MB diesel powered nine passenger bus, if my memory serves. I don't now when it was made, but it looked a bit like this one. We liked it, since all of us on our shift could ride in it. It wasn't too loud or smoky, but the MPs knew it by sight. Quite memory from my Army days.
Hello Flexiny, very nice video of restarting this old Mercedes motorhome. I very much appreciate your videos of re-starting vehicles sometimes stopping for many years. A big thank you for sharing your videos.
Mercedes Benz 206D sitting there long time need battery engine turn over vehicle running oil stick good condition awesome video flexiny bless you keep bringing new videos soon German vehicles around the world
My dream Vacation? Staying in Eesti and drink beer with Flexiny in old cars… :-) Thank You for another lovely episode. AWESOME. Geetings from Poland. Cheers!!!
This vehicle is Mercedes bagded, but it is actually developed by Hanomag. Mercedes bought this manufacture later on. When I was a little kid, they were all over the place. Came with front wheel drive in a time when commercial vehicle had normally rear wheel drive.
What amazes me is that mice and rats haven't eaten through the wiring. I know these old diesels don't have much in the way of wiring required to make them run. But there is still some. Maybe it's a difference in the type of insulation used. Maybe the mice and rats don't really like it that much. I've had modern fuel injected gasoline cars start up after several years of sitting, as long as the mice and rats haven't eaten the wiring. Some electric cars do much better on the standby power. Tesla's are NOT one of them, they will definitely go dead even if you had a full charge within a few months. The Chevrolet bolt EV or I think Opel Ampera in Europe actually has a very low discharge rate, Not as many systems staying awake when the car has been powered off.. when you power the car off it's off. It's not constantly waiting for you to walk up to it or waiting for an over-the-air update etc. I owned a couple of different Volkswagen diesels, both were quantum turbo diesels. They both ran fantastically.
Holy! This reminds me of the small school vans, Police vans, ambulances that were used till the early 2000s in India. P.S.-However, they were sold as the Tempo Matador over here.
I wonder if a modern diesel motor, after 30 years will start, following a non-use period of 10-15 yaers. I really like your videos! You could use a pair of gloves. Just in case...
Greetings from Michigan USA! Love all the Zil trucks! I always wanted a Hanomag van. We got a few in USA 70-72. I would love a ZIL 130 truck or a Tatra car. (Or a ARO 244)
It was known as the Tempo Matador,Came with the revolutionary Mercedes OM616 engine, was a front wheel drive unit, available in both Gasoline and diesel engines. It ruled the roads of India from mid sixties till late nineties and then suddenly disappeared. We don't see any of them nowadays.
In india it was sad matador F307D .......sold under name tempo ..... known for its sewing machine like sound ......never fire without heater ...small radiator often has heat issues ...... ambulance ...school van ....people transporter ...goods van ...even streched version was also available ...see long ago may in 90s....was frount wheel driven
Thanks for the video! I love what you do and to see the old mercedes running again. OK, it's quite popular to make videos from cars first start after ages. What I don't get is, why you guys are not spending a couple of bucks for at least new motor oil and a new diesel and oil filter BEFORE turning the starter.
So what if the car doesn't start? The new oil and fuel would be wasted. If the car is worth saving this guy probably would put new consumatives for it if the car runs. If the car is going to be scrapped soon what's the point of spending more money on it. If you drain the new oil and fuel from it they technically become used.
in the early eighties when I was about 12-13 years old my father worked as a driver. then such Mercedes arrived in the garage as well as others that drove more passengers. as if it were a century ago!
During my student days, had a part-time job driving one of these as a delivery van. After a day´s work of driving, I felt deaf. The engine was quite noisy.
Man those old Mercedes diesels are designed for nuclear apocalypse. The amount of abuse they can take is incredible. We had Mercedes 240GD in the military with a similar engine. Different drivers, no warm up, always pedal to the metal, they didn't care.
One thing about old machines , even it old it still can start ...not like new machines .., when it not run for quite sometimes all get rusty , and jammed , mostly the rubber o ring , oil seal get torn , expend from it actual size and caused the leak ...!
Engine sound sweet no smoke love to see restored
Exactly, engine is very good condition

Exactly what I said!
He probably gets bored looking around his area for old junk cars because they've already been fixed!
Thats so true
He s like Mac Gyver, but from Lituania 😮
These old Diesels are just beasts the way they start after being sat for so long unbelievable
Crazy how smooth the motor runs, just so!

I drive a 306d in California. Very rare here. I brought it back from the dead. Very trustworthy rig.

The first motorhome from my dad was a 206d based Hymermobil from 1977. Reliable as heck ! Love the OM621 sound
Ist om615....gut Sounds similar to om621😅😎👍
That thing is pretty cool. Its like a bigger boxier version of a kombi, with a diesel.
This vehicle is Mercedes bagded, but it is actually developed by Hanomag. Mercedes bought this manufacture later on. When I was a little kid, they were all over the place. Came with front wheel drive in a time when commercial vehicle had normally rear wheel drive.
"oh, they parked it somewhere in 90s!" I thought
and then realised that it was 2006
I'd like to see a bloody Tesla do that after 15 years of standing.
Battery is broken 😅😜

My grate uncle had one of those conversation as a camper van he went all over Europe with in the late 70s early 80s slow but never let him down
I hope it gets restored, its a good looking van, a little quirky but thats part of the charm!

Hahaha, always keep a foot near the throttle when you push the choke back in after a very cold start ;).
Runs rather well!
Молодец классное видео! Отличный автобус легендарное качество!
Amazing it's been sat that long and still starts and runs and the wheels still turn. Normally they'd be locked on
Amazing Job, Flexiny
I like this direct, smoky exhaust. Mercedes quality 👍

OK, it's quite popular to make videos from cars first start after ages. What I don't get is, why you guys are not spending a couple of bucks for at least new motor oil and a new diesel and oil filter BEFORE turning the starter.
