    As a musician, there is so much to learn watching these guys: collaboration, patience, the art of listening, taste; there is so much these guys are doing! It's so impressive! These guys show that you can have more than 5-6 people on stage and it not sound like a mess, but a beautiful and well thought out sound. Good on ya Michael League. Good on ya...

    To the Fusion newbs saying the drummer was "Out of the pocket" or "not in the groove" during his SOLO beginning...
    Do you not know your modulations or polyrhythms? lol I love Larnell and Sputt but they all each have their unique playstyle. Some people nuthug Larnell or Sput almost exclusively. Why can't you just appreciate the uniqueness of every drummer? These guys are all talented and I definitely enjoy hearing Flood from different drummers and different intro variations. That's what makes playing Live so amazing. It doesn't have to sound like the same exact "Groove" every time. With such a song like Flood, you make your own groove every time as you can do so much with time sigs like 5 or 7.
    What I actually get from this guy is more of the Hip hop feel in the 7/8 rather than the jazzy melodic feel you hear(which is also great) in the recorded album version. Interestingly, Mike had said that the opening riff for this was intended for Hip Hop and didn't even realize it was in 7 until he added in everything else.

      Get off your high horse. You know, people are not robots. People can make mistakes. Larnell dropped his stick once, I was like: "what?" - "how?"
      And yes almontefilms, you so-called expert, I know modulations, polyrhythms/meters...I think any drummer who listens to Snarky Puppy. And did you not see Cory Henry's face at 5:42?
      Larnell is great with those techniques, whilst Sput is more pocket-grooving.
      It just didn't feel right. Just like Cecil Taylor when he's breaking harmony.

    • @TheAlmonteFilms
      @TheAlmonteFilms 9 років тому +5

      What high horse? I was defending the guy from people saying "No one can keep up with Larnell" or "Sput would have been better" etc etc, Never claimed to be an expert. Never claimed that anyone was a robot or that anyone doesn't make mistakes. Nor did I put anyone in the band down. I did the opposite. All I said was to appreciate the variation in style of different drummers. He was just being expressive and abstract. Whether Cory Henry was feelin it or not? Idk. I won't judge based on his face or try to make it seem like I'm turning him on his bandmates off of just his face. To me personally it looked like he was in that waiting mode when you're trying to figure out what a soloist is doing next.
      It must be a lot of pressure to substitute for ANY of these guys in the main band honestly. And it must suck when people bitch at you for not playing exactly like the guy you're substituting for.

      Actually, when I first found Snarky Puppy around a year prior to their massive hype (due to the Family Dinner-sessions etc.) this song and "Skate U" was the first songs I heard and thereby meaning this guy Taron Lockett being the first drummer of Snarky Puppy I heard. And I found/find him immensely tight and pocket in a very appealing hip-hop way in these tracks. Then, when I found out that Sput was the actual drummer of the band, I got (no offense) a little turned off so I did'nt explore Snarky Puppy any further. Afterwards, I find Sput very much perfect to fit the chair, but I've always loved Lockett's more aggressive playing style

    • @sichard.rimmons

      This is Cory Henry's drummer, man. He has his group called the Funk Apostles and Taron Lockett (the drummer) plays for that group. You're right, 5:34 is quite outlandish, but as others have said, it was his solo to create. I thought it was very interesting, but to each his own.
