Mike Holmgren really should be on the list. He helped Joe Montana win two MVPs and developed Steve Young as QB Coach/Offensive Coordinator with the 49ers, coached Brett Favre to three straight MVPs, went to two Super Bowls and won one with the Packers, then went to Seattle and reached another Super Bowl with Matt Hasselbeck under center

Andy Reid did such a good job with Alex Highsmith, that he played for the steelers at linebacker but was still a hell of a QB for the Chiefs. You da man, Alex Highsmith.
Tom Landry took almost every QB he coached to a conference championship. Meredith, Morton, Staubach, White... all went to Championships... 2 went to the Super Bowl..... Staubach arrived in the NFL after 4 years n Vietnam, had a shortened career, went to 4 super bowls as a starter and won 2, making Staubach and Landry the ONLY NFC coach or qb to win a super bowl in the entire decade of the 70's....he also pretty much and Landry ran both Defense and Offense...so maybe Tom Landry should be on the list, Bonus, Landry even made magic with back-ups like thanksgiving in 74 with Longley....
The current QB killer coach we have in the NFL right now is Josh McDaniels. In Denver, he traded away Jay Cutler in favor of Kyle Orton, who was nowhere better than Cutler. Now as Raiders coach, he drove away Derek Carr to go with Jimmy G who is inconsistent.
Here are 3 more examples of coaches who I also think are quarterback gurus: Mike Holmgren, Bruce Arians and Sean Payton. Holmgren turned Brett Favre into a 3-time NFL MVP, and also transformed Matt Hasselbeck into a decent starter. Arians mentored and nurtured Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer and Tom Brady (Now THAT’S a great list!) over the course of his career. And Payton turned Drew Brees into one of the deadliest passers in NFL history. Need I say more?
Sean Payton, the man made Winston, taysom hill, and teddy Bridgewater look great whenever Brees was hurt, plus the massive success he had with Brees. Plus pete Carroll, Wilson looked horrible last year without him, and Smith looked amazing with him.
Here's a fun game: see how many degrees of separation all these QB guru coaches are from Bill Walsh. Feel free to correct me, but... Shannahan: Was OC under his father Mike, who was OC under Siefert, who was DC under Walsh. McVay: I think McVay was also under Mike Shannahan. Also, McVay's grandfather was a higher-up for SF during Walsh's time as SF's head coach. Coryell : IIRC, Walsh was an OC under Coryell. This means the entire Walsh coaching tree is also a large branch of the Coryell coaching tree. Reid: Worked under Mike Holmgren (possibly also a QB guru?), who was OC under Walsh. And now for a different game, run those QB killer coaches and see the degrees of separation. Not looking it up, but I'll bet they connect too, because the Walsh coaching tree is just that expansive.

You don't get to be the winningest head coach in NFL history without taking care of the quarterback position. Shula coached two hall of fame quarterbacks in his career and when the first of those went down in week 5 of the 1972 season all he did was finish the regular season undefeated with 38-year old career-backup Earl Morrall under center. When Griese retired after the 1980 season Shula came up with Woodstrock which saw both 8th round pick David Woodley and another career-backup in Don Strock splitting time under center. After taking Air Coryell to overtime in 1981, one of the greatest playoff games in history, Shula and Woodstrock then went to the Super Bowl in 1982 where Woodley became the youngest starting quarterback in Super Bowl history at the time. In week 11 of 1993 Don Shula broke George "Papa Bear" Halas' record for most wins all time with third string QB Doug Pederson under center after a shoulder separation knocked out backup Scott Mitchell who had previously replaced Marino when the latter was lost to a torn Achilles (coincidentally also in a week 5 game). After that game Miami was 7-2 and would reach 9-2 following the infamous Leon Lett Thanksgiving game before the wheels came off and the team finished 9-7 behind a hodge-podge of 4 different quarterbacks who still managed to combine for more than 4500 yards and 27 touchdowns on the season.
