The FUNCTION/EDIT button is really important for getting deeper into the recording process. Once you've selected your song, access the parameters with a LONG PRESS on the FUNCTION/EDIT button. EDIT will appear on the keyboard display.
From here you can edit the entire song, tracks and events - copying, deleting, inserting, quantizing, shifting - as well as step input and song mixer settings. Check out the manual from EN-99.
We will edit the short instrumental piece "Sacapuntas" I composed, which has chords, melody and countermelody. It's available to purchase from: www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/22036771
    Thanks!

    Hi Stewart:
I have created a number of song recordings based on your helpful instructions below in this string. Thank you very much. I have copied the MID file onto the USB and on to my computer. I have tried converting the MID file to WAV so I can use it in Audacity (along with WAV files I recorded on flute over the track). However the MID files when converted (using online conversion software) don't sound anything like what is created on the Casio...in fact nothing at all. This is after considerable amount of time manipulating the sound volume of each track as well as panning for stereo effect. I then tried recording directly from the Casio onto a ZOOM H4n pro (on multitrack function) via cable and that worked somewhat although all the stereo/ panning is lost and sound comes out of only one speaker in Audacity on my computer. How can I convert the MiD file to sound like it's supposed to on the Casio, i.e. with all the instruments sounding true to the Casio speakers and with volume and panning converted as manipulated on the Casio keyboard previously. Ultimately I want to use the WAV file from the Casio as the base track and play flute or sax over the track and combine in Audacity for the final song.

      Hi Louis.
Thanks for the post - I'll try to explain in words what the issues could be, but sometimes a video demonstration might be a better option. Videos 16 and 39 might help, or perhaps I'll have to do something more specific. Anyway, that will be in the future! For now I hope the following text helps.
Sorry if this is a little bit basic to begin with , but let's start by looking at MIDI.
MIDI is just gestural data that travels between devices, say between two keyboards connected via MIDI. When I press a key (my gesture) on one it sends a message to the other, and says "play this note". You then hear the second keyboard play that note. The message is simply "play this note" - it's not, "here is the actual SOUND of a note". That means when you use a piano sound on the first keyboard, if you set the second keyboard to a different tone it will play the same notes but with a different SOUND. It's like layering two different sounds, but they play the same notes.
I suspect when you're converting your MIDI file to a WAV file, the software you're using is using it's own set of General MIDI sounds and applying those to your MIDI file. That's why it won't sound the same.
What you want to do is exactly what you've done with your Zoom H4n. You need to capture the audio or SOUND of your Casio keyboard. When you put that into Audacity you should see an audio track with a waveform that represents your recording, and provided you've got the correct cables and connections it should exactly like your original.
Do you have the X3000 or X5000?
For the CT-X3000 you'll need a cable with a stereo jack plug on one end (1/4 inch) which will go into your Casio headphone/audio output, and the other end of this cable needs to split into two mono 1/4 inch jack plugs. If you don't have one of these, search for something like: "1/4 inch Jack TRS Stereo to Twin 6.3 1/4 Inch TS Mono Male". The CT-X5000 has separate audio line outputs so you could buy two separate 1/4 inch mono jack to jack cables for the L and R outputs. Plug the other end into the L & R inputs on your Zoom.
Page 9 and page 11 of the Zoom quick start guide shows you the set up in a diagram. Set the Zoom to record L/R stereo, set the levels (put the Casio volume around 80%, adjust the Zoom input so it's "dancing" just around 80% as well), and you're good to go. You could then overdub your flute/sax parts onto spare tracks on the Zoom or into your PC.
Your Zoom can also function as an audio interface, so you could plug it into your PC via USB, set it as your playback/record device in Audacity, and you can record through it directly into software. But that's a whole new world!
I hope I've got the gist of your message correct, and have given you some pointers to solve issues you've had. Let me know. All the best.

    This is awesome!
I am trying to figure out how to record new tracks that come in at different times in the song. In your example all of the parts started together so you just played a note to synch/start recording your next track and everything started together. In what I am trying to do, the tracks would join in at different points in the song. How do you initiate recording of the new track without playing a note to start it? I want to be able to listen to the background tracks I have already recorded before joining in several measures later.
Thanks so much for your videos! They are far superior to the instruction manual or Casio's videos.

Hi Nick, thanks for the feedback and your question. The "secret sauce" is the START/STOP button. Set everything up that you want for your track. If you're recording a system track that's the only one used for rhythms. Press the START/STOP button and you should see the bar/beat counter going round. Then when you're ready, start to play. I've just tried it so I know it works! You can even have the rhythm start later in the song. I've noticed the occasional glitch - it just doesn't respond to the START/STOP button - but after a couple of goes it kicks into action. Hope that helps. All the best.

Hi Stewart! I am creating a song with several tracks. I am struggling to figure how how to use the mixer options to customize the volume (or other effects) to a single track. One of the tracks come across far too loud and obscures some
    of the others.
I'm also wondering if it is possible to add delay or reverb to individual tracks/tones in the recording.

The PART/MIXER button can be a little confusing - and I sometimes still need to refer back to the manual myself which can add to the confusion!
Pages EN-65 and EN-66 has tables for each of the PART GROUPS. The two groups you will probably need are SONG SYSTEM PART GROUP and SONG SOLO PART GROUP - these are detailed on page EN-66.
To access each of the PART GROUPS short press (SP) the PART/MIXER so the red LED light comes on. As you press the +/- buttons on the keypad you will be switching from one PART GROUP to the next. Once you land on the one you want, SP the PART/MIXER button again to turn off the red LED. At the bottom line of the display it will confirm which PART GROUP you've selected. The bottom line should also have the word MIXER to indicate you're mixing your selected PART GROUP - if it's not displayed then long press (LP) the PART/MIXER button and you'll be ready to mix.
The line numbers on the display refer to each part of the PART GROUP. You can select each one using the L/R arrows on the keypad and then they will flash. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the keypad to select the settings for the part - PART ON/OFF, VOLUME, PAN, REVERB SEND, CHORUS SEND, DELAY SEND. The song can be playing while you mix, though if you want to solo one particular part, press ENTER, and everything else is muted. Make adjustments either by using the DATA WHEEL, the +/- buttons, or press NUM on the keypad and type the value using the keypad.
I hope that helps. Happy Mixing!

Hi! I need your help. When I go into mixer programming for a recorded track, I can only adjust the volume and panorama for recorded solo tracks. When I add chorus or delay or reverb for recorded solo tracks, my CT-X5000 does not reproduce these effects. This happens precisely in the "mixer programming" (p. 111 manual). If I add these effects in the mixer in real time, then they are applied. Maybe I have problems with the software version 1.08 on my CT-X. Resetting to factory settings and reinstalling the software does not help. What is the firmware version on your CT-X?

Many thanks for all of these valuable tutorials.

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  Рік тому

Hi - thanks for the question! It's relatively easy to do. You can either "mute" tracks one by one, or "solo" the track you want to listen to on its own.
Firstly, you need to select the PART, by pressing the PART button (red LED comes on) and then selecting either "1-9 Song Sys" or "1-8 Song Solo" or "9-16 Solo Song". Use the -/+ buttons to select the one you want. The lower line of the display should now display the one you've selected. Press the PART button again (red LED goes out).
(By the way, the manual EN62-67 describes a lot of this, but we all know how it's SO confusing to say the least!)
Now go to the MIXER page by HOLDING DOWN the same PART/BUTTON (no red LED lights this time). You should now see the numbers indicating the tracks, and you can use the L(1)/R(3) arrows to move along the line to select the one you want, and use the DOWN(2)/UP(5) arrows to select the various settings (ON/OFF, Volume, PAN, Reverb Send, Chorus Send, Delay Send).
Press the ENTER(6) button to "solo" the selected track and all the other tracks will be silenced. Of course, if you decide to "mute" tracks then that's another (longer) way of achieving the same thing.
Hope that helps! All the best.

Hi mate, thanks heaps for all your vids, extremely helpful!. I have been gradually working things out after following your instructions.todays question 😁is it possible to name the saved registrations ie, the song name that the saved registration tone etc has been set up for, ie, can I name the song in b1 r1, Mary for example.tia

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 роки тому +1

Yes and no! You can't name registrations individually. You only have BANK and REGISTRATION options on the keyboard, so you'll have to remember or make a note that BANK1, REG1 is "Mary", or whatever!
However, when you save a REGISTRATION BANK onto a USB stick/pen drive, you can name it. Remember, you're saving a whole BANK which consists of a set of 8 REGISTRATIONS. If I'm playing a set of songs, then I will set up the registrations in one (or more) BANK and then save them with the date as the name. Then I can come back to a particular saved BANK and load it in if I'm playing any of those songs again.
You can copy REGISTRATIONS individually between BANKS, so it's possible to create another BANK with a different collection of registrations.
Of course, you could just name a BANK with the song name when you save it to the USB stick too! Just remember each BANK is a collection of 8 REGISTRATIONS.
I hope that helps - and makes sense! All the best.

In the manual it simply says hit EXIT after setting volume values, but his seems to not be working. Is there an interim step or function that needs to be pressed? I tried a short press on EXIT and a Long press and neither rstores the settings. What am I missing? Very frustrating since without editing the volume for each track it doesn't sound right at all as some parts are simply too loud.

      Hi Patrick,
Your question is similar to another CT-X user on my video No.29 about mixing with pan ( ua-cam.com/video/KbKkyQASOBA/v-deo.html). I've copied part of my reply here, so try this and see if it solves the problem. If not, then get back to me!
As long as you follow the steps below it should work.
      1. The first thing to do is get into "Song Editing Mode" - long press (LP) FUNCTION and EDIT should appear on the top edge of the display and "Song" in large letters in the centre. (Page EN-99)
      2. (Page EN-111) LP PART/MIXER to get into MIXER MODE.
      3. Next, select the PART you want to edit. Remember, you've got a system track (SONG SYSTEM) and solo tracks (SONG SOLO) - it needs to say SONG SYSTEM or SONG SOLO on the display. (It might revert back to SONG SYSTEM, so watch out!). Press the PART button, the red LED is lit, use +/- buttons on the keypad to select the PART (SYSTEM or SOLO), then press the PART button again so the red LED is unlit.
      4. Use L(1)/R(3) arrows to select the part you want to edit - e.g. SOLO PART track 2.
      5. The UP(5)/DOWN(2) arrows will select the parameter you want to change - (part on/off, tone, volume, pan, coarse, fine, bend range, rev send, chorus send, delay send)
      6. Use the DATA WHEEL or keypad to change the selected parameter value
      7. Press EXIT twice. Job done!

Yes, it can be frustrating. Most of the time I'm only using the keyboard to quickly sketch ideas without having to put the PC on, so I'll just accept the limitations. I like the fact I can just turn it on and within a few seconds have reasonably decent sounds before I forget my ideas.

Hello Stewart, nice video this one! I'd like to ask you if there's a way of using the playback of the sequencer as a loop. I've recorded a sequence of chords, but when It playbacks there's a extra beat (like a beat 0 before the recorded song begins). Thank you, greetings from Brasil!

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 роки тому

Yes, it's a bit annoying. I suspect it's resetting tones and other data, which creates that small glitch when it is set to repeat the song. It's better to use the phrase pads, which will loop seamlessly, and can be up to 16 bars long. Since there are 4 phrase pads you could create independent parts that you can turn on and off during a song. Alternatively, you could use an external audio looper - I'm hoping to demonstrate that in future videos. Merry Christmas from the UK!
