Specs
The PWS MK1 MOD 1-M line of upper receivers feature the PWS long stroke piston system. Internally, this line offers the tried and true system that PWS owners have grown to know and love. Featuring a free-float MLOK handguard, forward assist controls, and a more true to mil-spec design, the MK1 MOD 1-M line is a go-to for not only civilians, but also Law Enforcement. With the fully forged upper, the MK1 MOD 1-M is a no-nonsense tool for when you need a high value option that is relentless and unstoppable.
The shortest available option in the MK1 MOD 1-M series, the MK107 is based off of the first firearm developed by PWS. Known as “The Diablo”, the MK107 was designed to replace MP5 style weapons. Used heavily in law enforcement and SWAT settings, the MK107 has been a vital part in the growing use of SBRs as patrol rifles. The MK107 upper receiver has a 7.75” barrel and Triad556 Compensator.
The MK111 MOD 1-M is perfect for shooters looking for a weapon with endless uses. Maintaining the shortest barrel length recommended for suppressed use, this compact upper receiver is one of the most popular from LE to heli-hunting. The MK111 upper receiver has an 11.85” barrel and a Triad556 Compensator.
The MK114 MOD 1-M, developed after the M4 pattern, is the go-to item for shooters wanting a compact rifle without the NFA paperwork. Having a pinned muzzle device, the MK114 MOD 1-M has been described as the ideal straight out of the box rifle for the average customer. The MK114 upper receiver has a 14.5” barrel with a FCS 556 Compensator.
The MK116 MOD 1-M upper receiver comes from one of the most popular firearms PWS manufactures. Being a go-to for Law Enforcement communities looking for non-NFA items, this rifle can be seen in-use by over 85 LE communities in the United States. The MK116 upper receiver has a 16.1” barrel with a FCS 556 Compensator.

With the fully forged upper, the MK1 MOD 1-M is a no-nonsense tool for when you need a high value option that is relentless and unstoppable.
I've been running my PWS MK111 Mod 1 for 9 years now. It is a tank and is still just running and running and running flawlessly.
good to hear, been loving this one as well.
Wow... any parts replaced?
@@LibertarianRF only thing so far was the buffer weight since I run it mainly suppressed
@@nicholaswerner4039 thanks man..debating on the pro or the mod 1..can't decide
What buffer are you running? I have the Mod 2 Mk111 in BLK. I’m new to this”AR” stuff. I’ll be running my old trusty 300 omega suppressor
Probably the most in depth review that I’ve seen on a PWS gun.
I don’t recall you mentioning the balance which is stellar. I feel that it is the best and most evenly balanced piston AR available and is so well done that most people wouldn’t even notice that it wasn’t a DI system.
In my experience, owning 6 of them, I found the recoil impulse to be smoother and lighter than the majority of DI guns- I run an H2 buffer in all of them. This includes 5.56, 7.62x39, snd 7.62x51 rifles with barrels from 7 to 16 inches.
I haven’t owned one that shot larger than MOA and most were probably 3/4. The only one that opened up was the 308 after I pinned a suppressor mount to it- I assume that it was over torqued and that it somehow affected the harmonics. It’s still a 1.5 MOA gun though.
After buying 1 of their guns I ended up selling my other AR’s because the PWS outclassed them for less money.
Again, great review.
Glad to hear you like them.
That last setting it's the X setting. It's designed for cleaning the piston tube. Put it on x pull the gas plug then you run a 40 call brush down the tube to clean
oooooh, I assumed that was an "off" position.
Literally anything 🔥
Just purchased the pro model and it’s awesome, thanks for an excellent review as always
Great to hear!
Literally anything!
Literally Anything.
Love Mine! Runs so well, and I know it can handle anything I throw at it.
So far I am very happy with it.
Really good review! Thanks!
Great review, very thorough
Nice review thanks 😎 picked one up used love it waitin on my suppressor now
Great info. Been curious about the PWS line. Thanks for the great video 😁👍
No problem 👍
Been running my PWS MK111 Mod 1 for 6 years as mentioned below as well and never had any issues. I absolutely love it, I just wish they added the lower from American Defense that has that paddle that locks and releases the bolt as well as acts as a mag release. I LOVE that lower, Imo that's the only thing missing from this rifle to make it perfect.
Those lowers are awesome.
Dude ... Phase 5 bolt release and you are set
Great write up!! I have the mod 2 MK111 in 300blk, and thinking about adding the 223 wylde for my first 223/556. Best review I’ve seen. You may have talked me into it. Lol
Oh snap....... it has arrived😍😍😍
quick turnaround here.
Today, We celebrate, Our Independence Day!
Just got my complete mk111 mod1 last month and it’s a game changer
nice, I am really liking this one.
Mod2 is also forged. In the mod 2 those cuts are for lightening the weight, they also get rid of the forward assist. Awesome video.
I guess that would offset the extra weight of the piston system.
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Love the classic aggressive AF intro.
:)
I have the PWS Mk111 Pro. It's the entry level into the PWS system. It runs great. I bought just the upper to save some money. They work great on any lower you already have. The Pro version, though it is entry level, gets you all of what great about the PWS long stroke piston system without paying for the fancy/expensive upgrades-witch I don't need/care for. As far as the carrier tilt is concerned-PWS addressed this but using a anti-tilt buffer tube with a small extension for the BCG to ride in, negating the issue all together. They are sold individually as well. Also, the recoil impulse seems to me to be smoother than my DI guns, as the gas is bled off in an increasing about as the piston travels backwards in the piston tube. 👍🏼 Great upper, well built.
The recoil impulse is good for sure, but for me anyways it feels a little stouter than my well tuned DI guns.
@@gundeals You have much more experience than I do, I'm sure you have a more refined feel for how different things feel. I always wanted a piston gun. Gonna be running the YHM Resonator K as soon as it's out of NFA jail. Great channel/content. Appreciate all your work and experience👍🏼. Could you link to your website? Thanks.
Not sure if I can link to it, but the name is gun deals.
I would say piston guns feel more like a push than a snap.
My next purchase
full gun or just the upper?
Great review! I got mine a couple years ago, and to date I've only had 1 malfunction because of a bad magazine that I had to toss. Worn lips.
The MK111 Mod 1-M really is amazing. One of the ways you can tell the quality of a certain item is the weight. This thing isn't a crude slab of metal, but it's not cheap and chintzy either. It just feels RIGHT. The handguard especially is quite tough, and has a great lockup.
That said, I REALLY need to try out the JP silent captured spring/buffer system. The stock spring really grates on my nerves, and I do feel like it could use a stronger spring as well. The BCG slams a tad much even with a lower gas setting.
Personally, I'll probably build up mine for range, (LPVO and a Bipod) and keep building up my .300 Blackout carbine to fill the other roles.
(Me and my brother in law are going to go in together on a reloading setup so we don't go insane from ammo prices lol.)
That said, I'm pretty amazed I got it for the price that I did. Such a good value for the money.
Glad to hear it's working for you man, good luck!
@@gundeals thanks, you too! Getting so darn crazy out there...
I scooped up a mk114 mod 1 a few months ago and it's been flawless thus far. Very smooth and much cleaner than my DI AR. The only real "problem" with a PWS is the proprietary design.
yep, that is about the only issue.
This is the best position system o. The market. They are sub MOA with high quality ammo.... And a decent trigger... And a decent optic... But primary arms slx 3x with 62gr green tip I'm at just under 1 moa
very very good for sure.
Note this is a intermediate upper this is a mk111 pro Mod M being the forward assist model. They have a slightly less expensive non M model which doesn’t have a forward assist
yes sir, they have the Pro, Mod 1, and Mod 2
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
PWS is the best.
definitely a great option.
POF might have something to say to that.
@@James2001 long stroke vs short stroke. PWS is superior.
@@6point1hemi yeah, there’s no proof behind that opinion.
There’s no proof behind your opinion that POF is better, either.
The PRO is the budget line, the Mod 2 is the light weight option, and the Mod 1 is for those who still want a forward assist. Price wise, the Mod 1 is the middle option.
do you know what changes other than the handguard and upper on the Pro line?
That’s it, just the upper and hand guard are different. All the internals, BCG, piston and barrel in the Pro line are exactly the same as the mod 1 and mod 2.
good to know!
The pro upper is 6160 aluminum vs 7075 and the pro doesn’t have a forward assist which is useless anyways. The rest is all the same.
I’m new to this platform and don’t even know what a forward assist it?
Whammy!
whammo
literally anything
Close a FT chat and hop into an FT review!
that's how to do it.
I want that upper.
it has been super nice.
I’m buyin a pws soon
nice!
@@gundeals been wanting one for 4 years lol. I should just get one already hahah
Anything.
Noice
Have you ever tried out POF-USA P415 Edge rifles and/or pistols?
They use short stroke pistol systems, I have a 16 inch rifle and a 12.5 inch pistol and really like them.
I have not, would like to though!
I have a 14.5” P415. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
@@James2001
Agreed!
now if they could just make it rock and lock for the mags... how sick would that be?
Snagged a mk111 mod1 for $875 over Labor day weekend. Can't wait to shoot it!
Awesome man, glad to hear it!
I run my mk111 with h2 buffer in on setting #2
I went with the Mod 1 over the 2 because the Mod 2 doesn't have the forward assist. In my career, I've used it more than a few times. I'd rather have it there for the few times I might use it, than not at all. Mod 2 is def more sexy and the handguard setup is ideal but nothing you cant achieve on the Mod 1 with some MLOK picatinny attachments. Food for thought for those on the fence between the two.
🤙🏻💪🏼🇺🇲
Can I take the muzzle device off ?
Really wanna this compared to foxtrot mike
we may pick one up.
@@gundeals please everyone i know is talking about it
I definitely messed up not picking one of these up when I had the chance. Back in the day whenni was buying my first AR, these were sold out and you could get their "pro" series for 1k total with the complete upper and lower, now those are like $1400ish lol I wound up getting the IWI Zion 12.5 and I still love it for what it is but I am thinking about snatching a PWS upper in the future, I'm curious if it would be possible to trim down the 16" barrel to a 13.9?
Look at the MK114
@@blocbulley Yeah those are more expensive though and still slightly longer than I'd want
if you cut the barrel down you will be messing with the gas system by reducing dwell time. I would not recommend it.
So, just re-watching this, and I gotta ask...how are you shooting so smoothly? How much of it is the brake, and how much is your technique/practice?
Sincerely,
- Someone who can't afford to train regularly
just a lot of practice and an H3 buffer.
Has anyone ever chrono'd IMI 77gr out of a mk111?
Also I scoped my old mod 1 with like 8k through it. It looks brand new almost, pretty nuts. Have chrome lined barrels with far less rounds and they look atrocious and the mod 1 was always ran hot
I was actually putting some 77gr through mine today funny enough. Didn't Chrono it but it performed well.
I'm broken between this one and BCM recce. Witch one is best for first rifle, long term use and reliable?
well the recce is much longer and this is an 11.5" really depends what you want.
@@gundeals Considering the same barbell lengths. For example 14.5"
Can you 5.56 in the pws? Or, should you only use 223 wylde
Both is fine.
Oh man trying to decide on the pro model or a mod 2
if you are on a budget go with the pro.
@@gundeals thanks..bit the bullet $1700 mod 2 on big daddy
Where can I get one exactly like that one!
optics planet has some in stock.
Not sure the piston conversions are worth it. It's different, but different isn't always better.
I like the design here, but this isn't something you could slap together at home.
Piston uppers are worth it if you’re into shooting suppressed a lot. That and you don’t have anywhere the amount of heat and fouling to clean up like a regular DI upper.
