  • How to build a DIY vocal booth at home for recording good vocals. You only need a blanket/duvet and a pair of acoustic walls.
    Alternatively you can hang blankets on a door and create a space where the sound will not be reflected. The most important thing is to have something to absorb the sound in front of you and behind you.
    All the things in the video can be bought at Thomann:
    - Acoustic walls: www.thomann.de/dk/clearsonic_...
    - Microphone: www.thomann.de/dk/neumann_tlm...
    - Microphone tripod: www.thomann.de/dk/km_210-2.htm

    A low budget solution for beginner artists is a closet with clothes in it!!
    Not only is it considered free (given you already own a closet and some clothes), but it doesnt take extra storage. Hang blankets or curtains over any doors/opened space (maybe you dont have a door and have an archway instead for example), and if the floor isnt carpet, cover that with blankets too! It may sound crazy, but it gives the same affect when theres a budget.
    Unfortunately, a big issue with this setup is vocalists cant always stand up when singing due to shelving or general closet layout. If its too constricting, it can always be the temporary solution until you can upgraded.
    Other than that, hope this helps!! 😁

      FYI everyone, there's a MUCH cheaper version of this that involves a "skeleton" made from PVC tubing and ceiling/walls made from a single mover's blanket. Whole booth should be less than $200.

    Even a thin blanket over the top will do wonders, brilliant touch. If you can swing it, a second wall behind you, 3-4 inches of thickness is MAGIC, especially with mixing. Cool thing with that is you can move the wall behind you as far back as you need to control the "openess" of your sound, I personally start with the dampening 4ft behind me and move it back if it comes through boxing, bassy, etc. Sometimes purely tight clean takes aren't what the track needs. This wall is far better than gimmicky vocal shields.

    Great microphone, but those panels, or some kind of room treatment, is the real secret here. You could pair those panels (and another, suspended from the ceiling to allow for taller people under it) and a $150 Audio Technica AT2035 and it would sound incredibly professional. That mic you have is a lot of people’s “dream microphone.”
    Show some details of the panels you are using for everybody.

      @@Davo198 I think you misunderstood my comment. I'm saying that the shroud costs more than a lot of dynamic microphones and has basically no benefit (bc dynamics aren't very sensitive to room noise anyway). We actually have a lot of of the same equipment as far as the KRKs the Mac but I have a MPC and a MPK keyboard but honestly, none of that matters when it comes to making music, because there are so many great keyboards and equipment out there, the only thing that really matters is your portable booth and one of my microphones is the TLM 103 and I have a couple more but I wanna know how much did it cost you to make the booth. I use mogami gold chords for everything but I love your portable booth and would love to know the price minus the microphone and everything else because I have everything else😊

    Hi ma'am, Good Afternoon, my name is Deol Ludhianvi, I want to record my poetry professionally. But I am full beginner. Should I go for dynamic mic or condenser mic? My room is not sound proof. The sound of fan also comes from outside. If I use condenser mic inside the blanket, will it be a good recording or not? I am very confused I can't understand what to do. Audio Technica 2035 or Sure SM 58 or Shure Mv7x which mic is best for me ?

    • @christine_bulow
      @christine_bulow  Рік тому +2

      To record spoken words I would recommend the Shure SM7B mic! It's really good at rejecting the room, but I would still try to record it speaking into your closet or try to minimize reverb with blankets and pillows. I hope this helps!
