Thank you as always, David! Some great artwork here. I became interested in tarot as a foundation for mentalism about two years ago. The reason: so many people, whose opinion on performances I trust, gave me feedback that in one way, shape or form, translated to: "Oh NO - not ANOTHER playing card trick." I began looking for alternatives. Many magicians are enthralled with playing card magic and that's fine. However, there is a percentage of any potential audience that does not share that passion, probably because over time they've seen enough cardistry that the charm - even when the effect is great - has somewhat worn off. The irony in what I will say next is that tarot effects are also based on cards. However - in my small, informal, unscientific world, folks who have a distaste for playing card tricks, don't seem to see tarot card effects in the same way. The "mystery" of the cards and the ability to weave them into interesting presentation narratives seems to put tarot in its own sub-category and one that many apparently find refreshing. Because tarot looks and feels different it is even possible to do things much more "openly," eliminating (sometimes) the need for false shuffles, certain sleights, etc. For example: simply by telling an audience that tarot cards are traditionally cut instead of shuffled (using the left hand closest to the heart), certain shortcuts in handling can be achieved and seem to just be accepted, whereas with playing card effects much more would be demanded by an audience. The list of wonderful tarot effect teachers is large and easily accessible. Moreover, it is not necessary to learn the zillion ways of interpreting the meaning of tarot cards. I’d say: feel to invent as you go along. Having said that, I suspect that anyone getting interested in tarot will, over time, assimilate a deeper understanding of what the cards supposedly suggest. The final comment I’ll make - but it is important - is that some conventional playing card tricks (including some of the oldest and most tired ones) can be adapted to tarot card routines and will gain a significantly new “feel.” So --- if you sense that your audiences are getting a bit ho-hum when you pull out your bicycle deck of traditional playing cards, you might be able to preserve your own love for cards in general by exploring the under-used opportunities of tarot.

Thanks for another great review. I am not that much into Tarot either, but I was so excited for Lorenzo to modify the House of the Rising Spade deck into a Tarot deck He did such a phenomenal job designing all of the extra cards and modifying his original art into this Tarot. It was such fun being a Patron and getting the opportunity to suggest changes in the final design. The end result was beyond my expectations. Hopefully, I will be getting my rewards from his last Kickstarter, Eye of the Ocean, in a few days.

These look truly beautiful. Question - do they have any magic-friendly features? (Marked backs, etc)

Gorgeous tarot cards... I'm a bit like you: I didn't really want to go into the tarot direction, but these cards by the amazing stockholm17 are must-haves!
Also, one of your tarot books is written by Rachel Pollack... who used to write the Doom Patrol comic! Fabulous to hear a name from another interest dovetailing in.
This video is like a Justice League of Magic.

Absolutely gorgeous. I've been looking for a tarot deck that has a shine and a weight to the artwork that will carry visually from a stage but which aren't too gigantic. This might be the one! Just wish I could buy in Canada without shipping fees...

Beautiful cards BUT my gripe is that the major and lesser look as if they do not belong together, deal breaker for me.

Won’t use a tarot deck. Don’t like them at all. I try to keep the so called black magic out of my magic. IMO

I use the major arcana when performing more mentalism-ish card effects (especially ua-cam.com/users/SpideyHypnosis stuff because he is awesome) because it adds a little more theater with no additional effort. The female audience members seem to always enjoy more, and become more invested in a trick when I use them. Also, sometimes, if I want it to look like a full card deck, I add the court cards with the aces since the names are on the bottom and it has some symmetry.
