- The Mountain View Cemetery is a 226-acre "rural" cemetery in Oakland, Alameda County, California. It was established in 1863 by a group of East Bay pioneers under the California Rural Cemetery Act of 1859.
The video tour covers some graves of important people, including:
William McKendree Gwin, Joseph Le Conte, Josiah Stanford, David Douty Colton & Samuel Merritt. The Stanford and Merritt families were associated with the Camron-Stanford House in Oakland, and there is a video about that here: • Camron-Stanford House ...
The speaker has a website and details of his publications here: evanosky.info/
This is fascinating. I used to walk my dog Bella at the cemetery every weekend. There is also a Oakland Masonic temple on College Ave in the Rockridge area, across the street from the Rockridge Homes store.
Great video!, I have 9 family members there, my Parents lived on Hanover ave, a block from Lake Merritt, I was born at Merritt Hospital in 1961 on Abe Lincolns Birthday!, I'm still living here in Oakland! Thanks for the great video!, there was so much info I never knew, especially about Merritt and the Sierra Club founders!
Where I grew up. Played and hung out here all the time.
This is my favorite place in Oakland, thank you so much for the info!
I'm enjoying this video
Ty very much I hope you make more of these
The Angel of Frances Piece, my relatives go way back there.
Great video. I love the Crocker Angel and it's very interesting to learn a bit about it's history.
Good content
I learn a lot
Keep it up the good work
Why do ppl treat the cementary like a park it’s so upsetting and tone deaf 💔And ppl were getting mad when told “this isn’t a park” it’s a place of grievance
😎
I have a book of photos about this cemetery from 20 years of visits;
