Wizard of Oz has always been a favorite for me. The flying monkeys scared the crap out of me but Mrs. Gulch on her bike stealing Toto was the worst ! Thank you for another wonderful History lesson Jeff and Sarah ! Also loved hearing about the founder of Hayward ! I grew up very close by and never knew any of that ! Facinating !
I always enjoyed it when Auntie Em said that she had been holding back her comments about Mrs. Gulch, and “being a Christian woman I can’t say.“ she didn’t have to say because we were all thinking the same way!
Growing up in Hollywood with family working in the industry I'm always interested in how supporting actors supported themselves outside of acting. They didn't earn enough acting so they usually had side gigs. Margaret Hamilton worked in film and TV before and after WofOz. Though she was a teacher early on, she later worked in TV. I just wanted to “Thank You” so much for this episode in particular! I lived in Hayward from age 1 to 43. Growing up in Hayward was awesome but now even better because you shared some Hayward history that I never knew!! Thanks again!!
Never used to watch grave videos before but the way you present it with the history behind each one is amazing for the amount of time you put into each one and all the other places you both visit is mind blowing. Just another great video and yes the monkeys scared me to as a kid. Thankyou Jeff for taking us on another history lesson
Thanks for posting. I am the one who left the mint green flowers. Always been a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz and wanted to visit his grave after i found out that he was in the same cemetery that my moms at.
Great website...my father, grandmother, grandfather and numerous friends are buried in this gorgeous resting place, with a view of San Francisco Bay and skyline.
The Wizard of Oz was shown every year in England, either at Christmas time or Easter when I was growing up. Must have seen it about a dozen times and I still find it captivating.
Soooo cool. I was fortunate enough to be in the Music Circus production of The Wizard of Oz in Sacrament in 1981 with Kathy Rigby starting as Dorothy. And I got to be both the Mayor of the Munchkin City AND a Flying Monkey. Such a seminal film that will always have a special place in both my nightmares and my heart!
The carved hands from a tree are spectacular. When we were kids the Wizard of Oz came on TV once a year. We would count down the days in excitement when the time came.
I love that you covered an actor from the Wizard of Oz Not enough recognition has been paid to the actors who played the Munchkins. And, that is a beautiful location for final resting places.
I love the Munchkins and I love visiting their gravesites. I was in Hayward last year, but had no idea he was buried there. I'll have to visit the next time I'm up that way. You did a great job sharing the other graves too. Another fascinating visit Jeff!
Thanks Steve! I wondered why you hadn’t got to this grave. I guess he wasn’t all that famous in the Oz scheme of things but I saw an opportunity to be the first. Hopefully we can meet and collaborate on a video next time you’re up this way.
@@jbenziggy As you said in your video, I think you are the first to visit his grave. I had no idea he was there. I visited two other munchkins on my road trip last year that I still haven’t edited and shared. I’m hoping to make a trip back up to Sacramento this spring to visit my brother. I also have a cousin in Fresno I want to visit. If I’m able to make the trip I will let you know. It would be fun to do a collaboration video together if possible. I’m turning 70 years old this year, so I’ve decided to cut way back on visiting gravesites in the future, but I’m sure I will occasionally go grave hunting. Mostly though I think it’s time for me to start enjoying my retirement while I am still 6 feet above ground, rather than spending all my time filming and editing videos lol. 😂
I was born in 1951 in ND, & this movie was shown yearly in February! Some memories never fade. (My horror was for Elmira determinedly riding her bicycle...uff da.)---I appreciate the cemetery visits & the reading of the names. Imagine being in Heaven, long-passed, & knowing someone was saying their name aloud.
I absolutely love the Wizard 🧙♀️ of Oz. The tin man was my favourite, and I had seen the grave of Jack Haley before but I have never seen the others, so thank you for including them. As a little girl I was not scared of the monkeys 🐵 but I was in awe of Judy Garland. Her looks and that voice, she was such a doll. I enjoyed hearing about Hayward, thanks for the history lesson. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
As a kid I was sort of a weather geek but very afraid of severe weather and any possibility of a tornado, so for me, it was the scenes with the funnel cloud on the ground going back and forth slowly making its way to the house!!
Yes!! Those monkeys were sooooo creepy!! They are still very unsettling to look at, but now I think of just how creatively done they were, they were amazing!! Thank you so much for another great video, Jeff!!!
Every year Wizard of Oz came on. Had some neighbor kids over, popcorn, and a great movie. Iasting memories! It was a BIG deal when it came on TV. Thanks for sharing as always.
I’ve been to this cemetery for the burial of two people. Interesting history of the once famous. Agree, it doesn’t take long for anyone to be forgotten. Thanks for sharing your insights.
@@jbenziggy of course! I look forward to seeing every post! I have even gone back to look at the old posts that I may have missed. They are very professionally put together. I love the knowledge I gain from them too.
When we were growing up the Wizard of OZ came on once a year. It was our family tradition to watch it every single year. The wicked witch scared me. I'll get you my pretty and your little dog was just terrifying. What a classic. Miss those days when we were all together and young. Thanx for the memories.
From time to time I catch the Wizard of Oz on tv. Reminds me of being a kid. This movie is literally a lifetime ago. I always press the info button on old movies and go to cast and crew. Shows you the cast and date of birth and death. Then pull it up on find a grave.
It’s always a treat when you post these interesting stories and the history of long ago. You learn something new every day. Thankyou for sharing. I enjoy your channel. Will be watching.
I came to learn about the actors but was more impressed with the history of the town of Haywards since I grew up across the bay in San Bruno…which I think would make a great History episode.
I remember the first time I saw the Wizard of Oz. We were living in Corpus Christi, Texas at the time. I remember hiding behind my Mother's chair during the "flying monkey" part of the movie. I was scared really bad. I am pretty sure I was 5 years old and we were watching it on our B&W TV. So this would be back in 1959. Now I watch the movie about 3 or 4 times a year since I recorded it a couple of years ago. It was such a great movie. Jeff you have done another great video that us "old" people can really appreciate. Thanks so much for your work. Take care and tell Sarah hello for us! Howdy from Texas!
Hi Jeff! That was a very good video. Yes, those flying monkeys were definitely scary to me when I was younger. The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic. That is a beautiful cemetery that you filmed in. Great research skills on where everyone is buried too. Thank you and I look forward to your next one. 🇺🇲🚜👍

Another terrific video J&S ! Wow what a nice spot that looks to be. Have you ever wondered how many years it might be since some of those older graves have been visited by family members. We get forgotten pretty quickly eh
I liked watching the Wizard of Oz! I don't remember how old I was when I first saw it, but I was young. I remember I couldn't get enough of the munchkins! Those monkeys were very scary! Thank you for showing all those other interesting graves!

My wife loves all things Wizard of OZ . Thank you for sharing this information and video. And Hayward I actually never heard of. Very Interesting. And McDonald was a great fighter in the Indian Wars.
I spent a lot of time in Hayward, as had several relatives in the area. My grandparents home was torn down , due to the building of the BART line. I remember the Hayward Plunge and Roller Rink. Good times.
