Epic 1st Run - Me & Dad on the Middle Saluda River

Middle Saluda River:
Come along with my dad and me as we take on an epic adventure day trip exploring down a river we have never been down before, a beautiful but unknown section of the Middle Saluda River in upstate South Carolina. We knew the first upper section was going to have several drops and shoals that we could see from satellite maps and the lower section (after crossing under the first bridge of Pumpkintown Road) was mostly flat “piedmonty” river. It was a beautiful spring day, and we did better than expected with “read and run” on completely unknown rapids. The lower, flat section of river got a little tough in spots due to multiple trees being down and having to get out and portage many times, but we endured and made it to our take out at Freeman bridge after 4.5 hours on the river with a pretty long lunch break at the last (and biggest) “butterfly” shoals aka Pot Shoals.
