    I am a 5'6 woman with a Toyota Highlander looking for ways to load a very similar kayak by myself. Thank you!! this was super helpful. First, I need to trade out my cinch straps for ones with rubber encasing so I don't ding my car while throwing them back over. I've used step ladders but I never knew that's what those metal clamps inside the door were for!? Cool, I might check that out too.

    Finally !!! I have been going back n forth on the catch mode for a couple years now. This video is the best one yet. I am sold Brother ! And Sister lol. I have heard it is slow and clunky, doesnt turn the best, but you surely proved that wrong. Class II Rapids....What?!?! I am 6 ft couple hundred (on a good day) - And you look sooooo comfortable !! This is the kind of kayak I could fish all day, not catch a thing and be completely satisfied ! Thanks again !!!!

    Your first in/out method causes damage to the belly of your kayak and paddle - scraping on gravel or concrete boat ramps is not the way to do it. I prefer to straddle then sit, while my kayak is in the shallows.

    • @MountainsRiverSea
      @MountainsRiverSea 26 днів тому

      @@nancyfry8361 that method I demo is for sandy beaches but yes I understand what you’re saying… we often straddle too in about knee deep water to get back in especially rivers where there is no beach

    A little off topic... A paddle leash is a good, safe item to use. Also, for newer or less balanced people, attach a thin rope to the kayak. Attach a weighted foam fishing bobber to the other end. Have about 10 or 12 feet of thin rope. Before entering or exiting the kayak, make sure the bobber end is on shore. Before exciting, throw the line well up on shore. This is done in case one accidentally pushed the kayak away by losing balance. Grab the rope to prevent unwanted swimming. Especially if you have gators in your waters.

    the bath mat works great , i have used a comforter to pad mine, i carry a mini gorilla ladder with me, its so much easier, also,i use the foam blocks to help me get it up higher, also if you run your safety straps first you can dive under them so even if the kayak falls the straps will catch it

    Thanks for the video! Was thinking about buying the loyak shoes, but now that you mentioned the ankle protection and the tip about the sand, i may lean toward the hiyaks. I wear exclusively hi top shoes for daily wear anyways, so it makes sense for me. I worry about the hiyak material being more "insulating" than the loyal. I don't want hot feet.

    • @MountainsRiverSea
      @MountainsRiverSea Місяць тому

      Glad you liked the video! If you were walking around all day in one version versus the other as casual wear, I would say the loyak would definitely be more breathable for every day where… But in water and kayaking situations, I did not notice the Hiyak being hot because my feet were almost always wet anyway

      I’m sure my method is far from perfect. I had them as close as I could get them while still allowing room on the crossbars for the width of the kayak hull to fit up there and stay put once I slid it up there. This is also a wider kayak than my touring kayaks so that also made it a little trickier

Could stack another one up top too but kinda sketchy. Now got a new 4runner limited and dont want to scratch anything on it, so looked into j hooks. This seems easy enough. Would you recommend using bow and stern straps also with j hooks using those cam type straps?

Scene one, one of worst ways to get in your kayak lol you could hear the hull being scared up as she shoves off, what if instead of soft dirt its rocks or has SOME rock, it will scar the hull REALLY bad. There are MUCH better ways to get into your kayak than this.
