I guided that river for five years back in the eighties. Highest I ever saw was 2.5’. In this vid, I recognized the takeout on Tugaloo...that’s about it...🤣
@@connorcoultas9629 I think you are right; I was looking for a glimpse of the put in or the 76 bridge, but Mr. Jackson always edits out the "boring" parts...although I'm sure there was material on this run that could have been good for 5 or 6 15 minute vids...I would pay for the footage from the drone they were using to scout the five falls! I thought for sure I would recognize Woodall into 7 foot, but I missed it. I'll never forget a dynamic rear ender in a glass slalom K1 at 2.5' at 7 foot...
LOL! Yeh, I could never have imagined such a thing when I was 'yaking back in the '60's and '70's. It would have been very helpful on some of the trips we took, particularly in certain stretches of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison where either side of the river was sheer canyon wall and you couldn't get out to recon it. We were the first team down it, and it was considered class 7 before we did it, so we were pretty much on our own figuring out how to run it, and where the sheer cliffs were, we pretty much had to read the river on the fly. As I said, it was considered class 7 before we did it. One of our team members quipped afterward that it was now class 6. 666. Hell on water. Much of that run is now drown under several reservoirs, one of which only has one road in and out. When we ran it there was no road there. They had to blast a lot of rock out in order to make one.
What a sick run! Dane, you are a legend to the sport of kayaking mate! Along with your dad and family! Thanks to all of you at Jackson kayaks for being such great sport enthusiasts/ambassadors to kayaking!
The thing that used to scare me about big flood stage water like that wasn't the water. It was the stuff in the water. I've seen entire trees going down rivers in the southeast like that. Also, when trees are going down a river, narrow spots which were just fine an hour or two ago could end up with a strainer in it, and if you hit one of those, boy howdy it's over. New a guy who died that way.
Our crew was about a half hour behind y’all on sec 3 that day. It was probably closer to 7.5-8ft when we put on. That was the highest I’ve ever run the Chattooga. Looks like you had a stacked crew. The floating wood was probably the biggest hazard out there that day. I got pushed off waves by trees.
9:27 Holy shit! Thats one of the biggest exploding waves I've ever seen... Can't believe that dude made it out of that surf. I would have thought I was finished getting stuck in something like that!
Great lockdown entertainment. I'm a retired oldster and before the internet the only way to guess what creeks and most rivers were doing in the Portland area was to call for the regional USGS for the water level morning update. That lead to some close calls. One time we got on Copper Creek in the E Lewis drainage, which is actually a really good run at high water...but not when it's brown and full of debris, lol. Ended up leaving our boats in there and coming back the next weekend. IF your ever in the area and can catch it, Copper is a fun run, just not when it's brown and muddy. We were running this a few years before the LWS was 1st run. ua-cam.com/video/QtfPj47TZHI/v-deo.html
Oh yea go run Brasstown Falls. 3-4 good drops. Last two are 20-30 feet. It needs to run this high or higher in that drainage. Rarely run. See AW for our pics from a day when Chattooga was around 10-11feet.
Yea I really hope I won’t drop into class IV’s maybe eventually I’m just wondering if it’s a good boat to start out with if you have experience with rivers
@@danejacksonkayak Get the protective lens covers or a waterproof case and put a water repelling treatment on it. There are a couple out there. I was thinking how if it was on your helmet and you rolled it could get knocked off by some rock or something underwater but that's when you put a good cable dope rope on it.
At this level there's probably several meters of water between the surface and the bottom of the river. And if you mean the intentional going upside down off the back of a wave its called a kick flip and its an aerial move so they are out of the water. Hope that helps. Whitewater kayaking is the coolest sport 😁

The Rapid he ran 3 times was Bull Sluice, and I think they portaged the falls except for Soc Em Dog

Agreed. Also looked safer at that level.
7:19 is Bull Sluice.
I love how your fun little surf waves are psychotic death machines to us mortals, *good shit*
We used to have to check the levels at the bridge, now these boys scouting rapids with a drone.

As a mountain biker, back country Telemark skier, freedive spearfisherman, winter surfer.... This legit scares me!!!!
I love watching your videos when it's raining in north Carolina and trying to calculate when it's gonna hit the southern part of tennessee 🤣
Haha
Wow great water level sick man, just sick. There is not enough day light in the day for that run.
that was awesome. and mad. and beautiful! well done.
One of the sickest runs I’ve seen!!
Send some of that rain out west!!
Man my anxiety and adrenaline kick in just watching!!!

Sec 3 was sooo sick!
Again, I'm a couple hours away, let me know and I'll shoot aerial video!
Dodging logs..
I heard you say "sticks to the face".
I can hardly imagine.
That section 4 looked like hell

who needs a raincoat when you can just wear your drysuit?
True, but I’m pretty sure it was soaked as well 😫
Rainin' so hard you can kayak the rain!

"You good-"
"fuCK YEAH I'M GOOD, FUCK YEAH"
*screaming in the distance*
💀💀
It was hilarious haha
Great stuff man
Sick vid so cool , nice surfing
That's the kind of weather I love.
Wow! Awesome video! What a powerful river! How do you and these kids navigate that run when it is so huge????
And to think I was kayaking the Chattooga at 14 yrs old back in 1994. Perception Pirouette Baby!!!
Been down section 3 rafting, Bull's Sluce was epic
So the rapid he ran 3 times was in fact Bull Sluce
It’s one of the best rafting experiences I have ever had!
Everybody forgets about the sixth falls.... at least there’s a little Eddie in deadman pool!!! Lake Rapid is sporty.....
Super nice video🤙
Any racommendations for gopro setting?
Which are the one that you use?
I use the Hero 9. I like to shoot in 4K 30fps Superwide. I just find superview is the best for POV
@@danejacksonkayak thanks very much, I will definitely try them

It’s a rainy night in Georgia🎼Chatooga will give you all you can take.
Wow that looks so HUGE and epic
Rapids so good sponsors be peeling off.
That was huge.
Nice vid
I actually had fun just watching this!
I've subscribed 👍
Mega surfing badass
Incredible!!!!
Love it!!!
Damn thats wild
Very cool. You walked the 5 falls?
saw some knuckleheads running The Bull @11' after a hurricane

Wave gardens replaced the rock gardens at this flow rate.
I’m wondering what type of kayak you have, I’ve white water rafted before but I take guide boats down and want to get into kayaking
Dan her has a halfslice kayak. Antix 2.0
But Dane is not to be compared with. He goes down in antix everywhere. Class 5. XD
Yea I really hope I won’t drop into class IV’s maybe eventually I’m just wondering if it’s a good boat to start out with if you have experience with rivers
@@aidenbrown6494 i thinknits a great boat to start with. You will learn fast what to do and what not to do :)
What paddle do you use Dane?
And get GoPro to send you the MAX 360 camera. I never thought I would love 360 so much.
The Max is dope, but for kayaking it’s tough because water stays on the lens more

When you say the jocasse rivers are too high, like so high it's just dangerous or they get washed out?
Too high to safely run as they are steep runs, and there is just too much water
That shit blew my mind.
Was that wave the Sluice? This level is insane!
Sure looked like it to me
Yep!
Someone explain how they don’t hit there heads on rocks when the are upside down. Btw this is the cooles sport ever.

Some rivers are shallow and that can happen. But this river at these flows is super deep.
Sometimes you do, and when that happens, that is when it is the coolest sport.
I also had wonder many times when Dane Jackson does it. Thank you for the answer
@@hafa2011 guys a beater, he’s basically upside down the whole time.
How long did it take to run sections 3 & 4 that day?
An hour. 😂
MEATY but yet so chocolatey too
Fookin' 'ell...
KLCG!!!
Выглядит круто и опасно.
definitely "Bank to Bank"
Took flight 7:23
Woodall at 9:05
That wave at 7:50
Bull Sluice at 7:19
If you hate putting on wet gear like this coment
I am shocked after 5 min after loading the car that's like putting on wet gear
