I have a old fan and old ceiling fan that makes a humming noise when started and keeps makeing it... I don't want it fixed for I find the noise really relaxing.. it's vary enjoyable quiet and soothing
Love your videos man keep up the great work and thanks for all that you do and help others with. My dad does maintenance for an apartment building by himself with over 250 units he has to worry about and these tips and tricks help us learn a thing or two on fixing simple for a seemingly complex issue. Thanks for all of you do! You are a great person for wanting to teach the community!
There’s that, then there’s rotation hitting wires within housing, then there’s balancing too. Clips and magnet weights fix those. This is why flush ceiling mounted are the best! 👍🏻
Make a video about the hardest, and most irritating things about being a maintenance tech. I want to know the pros and cons of being a maintenance tech.
Our fan has a switch for the light and then another switch for the fan power and speed. The fan makes a roaring noise at every speed. (not a blade through the air noise, but an electric motor roar) If I slide the speed switch through its range, you can hear the roaring noise change in pitch. (normally loudest as I pass through the mid point slowly) The fan does have the cork-type washers under the fand blade screws that you mentioned in your video. The old fan made the exact same noise, so we replaced it thinking a bearing was bad. To our surprise, we have the same roaring noise issue with the new fan. It is an old house with old wires and no ground wires, there is only one black and one white wire going to the switch box. The white wire is from a separate line from the black line. The switch has a black, a red and a red/white line to attach the wall lines to it. It had the black to black and the white to the red solid wire. The red/white wire is not connected to anything and the green ground is not connected (plastic box, so nothing to connect it to) Also, the fan switch has an on/off switch and a slider to control the fan speed, in case this makes any difference. It almost sounds like a motor that is trying to spin with not enough current or volts. (although the blades turn at a high speed) The new fan is not a high-end one, (Hampton Bay $85) but I would like to think all new fans do not make this noise. It is loud enough to keep you from sleeping with it on. Everything is tight, and spins freely. Everything mechanically looks fine. I believe this is definitely an electrical issue based on everything I have examined on it. Any ideas on what may be overlooked?
Thank you so much, my fan has been doing this for a while and my parents have been out for a week now on vacation. I bought the materials after I got off work. (I work at home depot) and got it fixed! U got a new sub!
I might be an electrical issue. the fan screws have those red cardboard washers on each of them. gonna have to break it down to check the wiring. As soon as i cut power to the blades the whirring noise stops.@@LexVance
foudn out the issue. lol. the light fixture was loose. I found that out by checking the second new fan I just installed yesterday and noticed the light glass fixtures were loose. so that ended up being the problem with one in my office. just an FYI for anyone who comes across this issue Like I did. Check your light fixtures on the ceiling fans and make sure they are positioned correctly, and the screws are tight.@@LexVance
I don't know. It's a common work order though. Also, anytime you're out at a restaurant you'll hear it. 👍😂👍 You'll start hearing it every where. Thank you so much for watching Nicholas! www.DirtyMaintenanceNation.com
Fans at our property always wobble. Setting the set screws, tightening the blade screws and balancing the pitch of the blades help but often times don't remove the wobble entirely. Just really cheap shit I guess. Annoys me to no end.
Hi Vance. I have washers on all four fan blades. Fan is quiet on Low or High speed, but on Medium speed, it makes clicking sounds. What do you make of that? Love your channel! ~Mikey
Hmmm, that would call for a thorough investigation. If you just can't find anything on the outside then I'd say it's internal. You'd have to get a new fan or keep the fan on low or high. Thank you so much for watching Mike! www.DirtyMaintenanceNation.com

@@LexVance : I’m thinking an impact gun would over-tighten in jobs like that. I use a small, battery powered electric screwdriver.
My ceiling fan makes a high frequency sound when the blades turn and it drives me nuts. Help, what could it be!
Make light bulbs, light globe, and fan blade screws are tight. Also turn it with your hand and see if something is rubbing.
