    Thanks! We went through a few videos trying to figure out what was happening. Definitely appreciate getting to the point and not going on for 3 minutes about the screws used to mount the darn thing.

    Lol, there is a fan in my grandparents house that buzzs, hums, and dry bearings noises coming from it all at the same time. This morning the power went out for a short time and came back on, when it came back on, that fan sounded like a very unhappy camper, it made a very loud electrical buzz.

    I’m a little embarrassed of how easy a fix this was! That noise had been bothering me for weeks and I was moments away from taking it down to oil the bearings. Thanks for saving me a bunch of work!

    I installed 11 fans in my home at the same time period. They are not used as frequently as i thought because the AC runs constantly so they are mainly light sources. Only the Hunter fan began to move slow and hum after 2 years. I noticed that my ring on the Hunter fan also fell down. I replaced it but but it didn't solve the problem of slowness. I dread having to replace a capacitor since the fans are used very infrequently.

    That is a Hampton Bay Farmington. So even if it's silent, just make sure the switch is not a light dimmer.

    • @mikep95133
      @mikep95133  6 років тому +1

      Sure. I used a motor dimmer and it worked fine.

    • @CeilingFanVideosOnYT
      @CeilingFanVideosOnYT 6 років тому +1

      Desert Mike DIY Yeah. The one with 3 or 4 positions should not cause humming, the fully variable speed ones are not good controls for noise sensitive rooms.

      This one is the longest operating fan that I have. Total of 4 in the house. Home Depot said on the phone they would warranty it. Not sure how long they are warrantied for. But at least it was an easy fix.

      Be careful, but try holding the 4 inch diameter base below the blades. Slightly tilt it in different directions as the blades spin. See if that gives you any clues.

      @@mikep95133 I did this actually and it reduced the noise. But I could NOT find anything necessarily wrong. If I let it run with noise it eventually quiets down. But comes back the next day. Very odd.

      @@93lopeziIt's been a while, but in the video I talked about loosening the mounting screws at the very top to allow smoother motion since these fans are not perfectly balanced.

      Very few ceiling fans are brush, and those are antique DC, and those need external AC/DC adapter. All ceiling fans sold in past few decades are brushless, and some newer ceiling fans use DC motor, and they are brushless DC and they use internal AC/DC adapter.

    But the white noise is still there, right? And that's normal, I suppose?

    • @mikep95133
      @mikep95133  6 років тому +1

      The noise from the loose trim ring was quite loud. So yes, the white noise is more prevalent. It's mostly the air fow over the blades that makes some noise. So it is normal. Some fans have worn out bearings so they make quite a bit of additional noise.
