One of the funny things about familiar abilities; its better to choose a pet that has no abilities than one with innate abilities. You can give a rat Flight, but you can't take Flight away from a bat.

@@daneiltherat2327 What they mean is that familiars with innate abilities are 'locked' and can never be changed.

It's true, although I would probably rule you could have a "bat with broken wings" if you wanted a bat without Flier.
@@KingOogaTonTon I know it's not what you mean directly but now I'm envisioning a Witch with a bat and they are about to embark on an underwater adventure. So the Witch just breaks her bats wings so it can swim better.
One of our players didnt know: you can cast spells without your familiar. You just need your familiar for preparing(and your familiar respawn every day)
Love those videos, unlike other class guides, they actually convey the thematic and idea of the class instead of just enumerating a list of feats

As a new player, this really sold me on the witch when everyone else calls it a "sorcerer, but worse."

You can also learn more spells by feeding them spell scrolls.
The patron-that-is-you-from-the-future would totally be the class archetype from War of the Immortal where the patron is absent and you eventually can become a patron.

I once made a time dragon witch (but haven't played with him yet), using the roll for combat supplement, and his patron is himself from the future and his familiar is a version of himself from some alternative timeline.
My day gets so much better the moment one of your videos comes across my feed. I'm so sad that the Strength of Thousands campaign I'm playing in is ending, because the witch I had in it was incredibly fun

I'm picturing a Witch with a Toad familiar getting his spells each day by licking the toad.
Is "a version of you from the future" a real patron type or just a really cool idea?
It is sort of suggested as a possibility for the Spinner of Threads patron- I agree it's a cool idea!

I definitely think so, although I get the impression that the designers intended for most witches to be occult spellcasters
I believe divine witches are confirmed for either Divine Mysteries or War of the Immortals. Howl of the wild also added three new Primal Patrons as well!
One question say your playing a gnoll witch a witch witch gnoll if you so choose and took the hyena pet feat would you be able to turn that pet from the feat into your patron familiar
