My mission is to empower creative thinkers and thought leaders to deepen relationships with others and creativity in their gifts so they can feel more passionate and less lonely in life :) Many of you all ask me how I got such thick locs when I don't retwist my hair. Here is the key ingredient to my maintenance routine. I do this once a month (average) to reduce breakage, reduce tension during maintenance, and grow thicker, healthier looking semi-freeform locs

I like the fuzziness of your locs. They look fuzzy, and soft like a baby chick. I don't retwist, I separate, and wrap the new growth that grows away from my locs, around the loc. Or I braid it too, if I want the hair to stay longer. 23 years in the game...1999!!!!!
"Like a baby chick" 😂 that part made me laugh out loud genuinely but thanks lol!
Wrapping is a nice method too I would do that if im feeling lazy that day. And beautiful that you've been in the game that long an OG 👏🏾👏🏾
@@holisticflo 😁
Thats funny but tru i have similar texture i love the fullness of the semi freeform better it gives us our natural look and not that tight twisted roots looking like a wore out mop
I want to thank you for sharing that video with me. I had just decided to try to twist my new growth into my locks because I do have a lot of hair growing away from the lock making the locks thinner at the root. I am excited about trying to breed the new hair into my locks.
You are so welcome!
I can tell that you stay in tune with yourself and what's going on in your journey by the way you articulate the your discoveries. I really appreciate that.
I want the type of Locs that you have but, I have discovered by going to the salon they are totally oblivious to different methods of maintenance.
Although I tell them over and over again that parts are not my concern and in fact I think it's cause thinning, they don't know what to do or think...I get BUFFERING.
I am so very happy to have stumbled upon your channel because I am at the 5th month of my journey, my hair is very short still, I now have the opportunity to cultivate the type of Locs I actually want.
I will totally be following your path for the remainder of my journey.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for sharing! Glad it was helpful
Wow this is a game changer to realize my locs arent thinning.. it’s just that my new growth isn’t going into the established locs. Thank you ❤
You're welcome! Also i took a look at your page and im wishing you nothing but thriving success in your yoga teaching journey
@@holisticflo thank you for the encouragement ❤️ I’m wishing you much success as well. Your introspective thought process & the way you express yourself is a great reminder to be my authentic self. I love when I come across people who make me feel that way. Have a great day ❤️
@@HomeFlowYoga you as well 🫶🏾
Thank you so much. I really hate getting retwists, I’m gonna try this 🙂
You're welcome!
I've been on loc journeys several times before. This is the first time that I am trying semi-freeform. Getting to a place where I stop retwisting...using any product on hand...and trying to coerce my hair....are long gone. This leg of my journey has taught me to finally allow my hair...to do what it wants to with minimal interference. It has rewarded me for this. However...sometimes I have to get a few strands back on the right path. I tried this today and...thank you so much for sharing. I went back and watched the video you mentioned too. Been watching your content for some time. Great energy and positivity. This method is a game changer for me.
Wow im so glad this information was helpful for your journey!
I agree on that about letting the hair rest and let it loc naturally other than getting a retwist every other month
free the roots gang , i hit 10 months of freeforming with 4c hair i use both their thing you mentioned and the moisturizer too
Free The Roots is amazing! They've helped me so much throughout the loc journey
Your intro music is so dope
Thank you! Its my voice
I was wondering if that was U! SO lovely! 🎶 @@holisticflo
About 5 years ago I first got my locs they were crochet hooked in and I was advised to go back every 3 months for a retwist and wax them every day but then I did more research and realized I dont want the maintained look at all nor do I want a bunch of wax buildup so after 2 days max I stopped waxing them started embracing the fuzzy hairs and just let them go im really happy I did because now all my loose hair is forming locs by itself some locs combined by themselfs forming fingers and congos my tips are still whispy and I dont intend on changing that. Once my hair becomes longer then I am comfortable with I will simply cut off the whispy tips I really enjoy the look of my hair and the journey. I wash my hair once a week with Dr Bronners tea tree solution and I must say it keeps my head very clean I dont feel like my hair is oily or dirty I dont have dandruff and I never used any methods to maintain them simply wash and go. I only dry my hair to the point where its not completely dripping all over me and then I just walk my doggo and let the wind and sun do the rest. I am also a white man I hope this helps someone who doubts the fuzz or loose hair. Just wash it and trust the process I would say. I like the maintained look I just dont like damaging my roots to the point where they will thin out and make me go bald eventually.
Great video, appreciate all of your content as a loyal follower...you always provide great inspiration! Blessings to you 🙌
Thank you, blessings!
I do this too ! But I use a crochet hook to help keep it in place
It's a great method 🙌🏾
I really want to do semi free form I love it.
Yes go for it!
@@holisticflo will do so thank you sweetheart ❤️
Good video. Helpful. I’m going to try this method. I have 21 thick locs and my new growth grows away. I usually crochet but I don’t like stabbing my fingers.
Hope it works better than crochet for you!
I just discovered you about 30 days ago told my lil sis about you as well very inspirational and beautiful I also decided to stop retwisting … keep it coming and keep dropping. Juice and videos
I'm glad you enjoy the videos I definitely will keep making them
You so fly❤ ion even know if people say that nomore but u r ❤

Thank you for sharing. I uses this method as well when I interlock my micro locs. It may work for anyone or method of Loc maintenance. Thanks.
Thank you!
I like your semi freeform dreadlocks nice and strong and healthy.!!!🥰🥰💚💛❤️🥰🥰
Thank you!
Braiding 🤔 I like it sounds a bit better than root wrapping. Also the meditation channel looks dope as well will def check that out.
Yes it is I like it a lot better. And definitely do we're always looking forward to more members in the community!
I feel like I’ll just take the new growth finger twist it then stuff it under a loc lol
😂😂 ive definitely been guilty of that
Your hair is so beautiful. It has grown so much.
Every time I try to semi-freeform my roots marry and I hate the detangling process. Am I doing smtg wrong?
Thank you!
You probably aren't doing anything wrong, possibly your hair just naturally locs quicker so the detangling process might be more aggravating because of it
I just got starter locs last week, and i’m thinkin about semi freeform. Do i just not get a retwist?
Fortunately i just made a video on this if you havent seen it:
How To Start Freeform Locs | Freeform and Semi Freeform Starter Loc Tips
ua-cam.com/video/QIDzNF-LQGY/v-deo.html
👍👍👍
Thank you!
With semi freeforming when is the best time to start? I am two month in my journey and I don’t want to retwist that often so that the root could be strong.
That's a good question. I started semi freeforming I was at 6 months loc'd. I wanted to make sure my locs were locd before I began the semi freeform journey
@@Jupiter88844 Thank you for answering my question! I think I'm going to do the same. Some parts of my hair are fully locd and the rest is still doing their own thing. I'ma wait until everything else catches up to the ones that are fully locd.
That is a good question, maybe I should do a video on this soon! But I think it honestly is safe to start semi-freeforming any time.
Some people i have seen who have semi-freeformed just put two strand twists in, and then never retwisted ever. Sometimes you cant tell how your hair matures until month 7 or 8, though. So it’s safer to wait maybe 5 or 6 months to start doing so
@@holisticflo thank you for responding! I think I’ll wait around that time because I’m still experiencing unraveling. I’m gonna make an update around that time frame to let you know how it’s going 😅
I am 6 months in and have never retwisted. My roots are growing in full, but it hasn't been long. Point is, I agree. You can be free/ semi free whenever you like. :)
You got any flat locs ?
Yes! Out of my 72 locs, I have maybe 8 or 10 that are flat, mostly in the back of my head
I tried this but it just made mines look dented & lumpy. 😢
Hmmm, maybe it works for me because my locs are already dented and lumpy 😂 but thats understandable
Lol I'm semi freeform as well but they're def not mature yet..in the tween stage
This has nothing to do with this vid but are you plant based?
Mostly am, Im not on a strict diet though. I eat fish, I stay away from dairy and i dont eat meat so mostly pescatarian
I thought you were going to ask is she single cause damn
@@lmao9179 Even if she is that is none of my business and I respect peoples boundaries lol
@@holisticflo Good to know! a vid about the foods you eat that have helped with your healthy loc growth & or spiritual journey would be amazing I could see it doing really well.
