Thanks!
Thanks for the Super Thanks James.
Photoshop keeps getting better. I appreciate you being my “personal” guide to all these updates. Thanks Dave!!!
Good Morning - you do a fantastic job in explaining editing. Thank You.
Excellent description I was befuddled trying to use it before your explanation. Clearly gives you so much more control. Thanks for the discussion.
Glad it helped!
Spot on Dave. Ditto to Stephens "personal" guide. Tried the radial gradient on some shafts of sunlight that were pure white. I had tried other methods of trying to introduce some warmth with out getting what I really wanted. The adjustability of using the radial gradient.....well I fine tuned it with ease to exactly what I had in mind. Sometimes I think I need to do everything through the TK panels and forget about all the other options Photoshop affords. Thank you Dave.
That was excellent. Thanks. I'm going to start working with it right away.
Thanks for the helpful demonstration. Great video.
You're welcome!
Nice demonstration and explanation! Wow, what an improvement!
It is a quite an improvement Paul. I love the fact that we can now see what we are getting in real time.
Thanks for that Dave, very informative … great improvement!
My early morning “breakfast” education session … thank you for another great video!!!
This is just what I needed to work on a project. I really need to take a refresher PS class...
Love the new gradient tools. Thanks for the great teaching video.
Thank you so much! Your recommendation, has really helped me!
Thank you for being so detailed as you rapidly move through ALL the details. When I follow one of your tutorials, not only does it WORK for me, but I learn new stuff!
Happy to help!
Dave, I love your presentation style. Useful tutorial.
Wow, what great tutorial video. I'm learning new stuff everyday. Can't wait to try this. Thanks.
How do you think this PS gradient tool compares with the LRc linear and radial gradients? Thanks. Larry
Thanks, Dave. I haven't been using gradients. Now, I will incorporate the gradient into my workflow as indicated.
Great tutorial! Thanks Dave!
I've really struggled with this great tool. Thanks for such a concise job explaining the new features and how to use them
I was working on a photo yesterday and this new version popped up when I chose a gradient. I wasn't quite sure how to use it. Thanks Dave for this timely lesson. I've gone from "what have they done" to "I love the new tool". You are such a great asset to all of us.
That is so good to hear Steve.
Really helpful!! :)
When I export I don’t see gradient transparency - it’s solid. Any ideas?
Thank you. Your timing is impeccable. I’ve been struggling with this for the last few days. I even posted about it asking for help. This video has helped tremendously. Thank you again
Glad it helped!
Awesome...
Thanks! I thought that I was going to go nuts but when you pointed to that dropdown to choose from "Gradient" or "Classic gradient" I knew why double clicking the gradient didn't open the Gradient Editor. Without a doubt an improvement but I would have liked to knew by some way before using the classic Gradient tool. I think I'll have to get used to master the new Gradient, without a doubt a great improvement. Muchas gracias desde Chile amigo!
Hi Dave. Great tutorial. Always good to get a review of the basics while learning a new skill. The new gradient looks like a significant improvement but I look forward to being able to adjust the circular gradient to an oval shape as we can do right now in Lightroom. Are you reading this Adobe???
thank you very informative love the new tool
Glad to hear it!
Helpful. Thank you.
Seriously such an amazing teacher, you make photoshop understandable and easy, please don't stop with the great tutorials.
Wow, thanks!
Well Done, perfect, greetings from tunisia!
Thanks for explaining an update that I hadn't even discovered yet. I've rarely used the gradient tool because I found it difficult, but the new one is much more intuitive.
I tried the new linear gradient tool to create a background for a photo I intend to enter in our State Fair. It would have gone faster had I watched your video first, but better late than never.
The new tools are simplifying our workflows and generating improved results. Thanks Adobe. And thanks Dave Kelly.
Thanks
Fantastic video Dave. I dont use Photoshop much because it scares me, but seeing how you can change a photo with these Gradients is really appealing, I can remember a few photos in my collection where I`d like to go back now and use this feature.
First, you are an excellent instructor! And, I love the new tool. Being able to see the effect of your work in real-time makes for quicker work. But you are the star!
Thank you very much!
Great video as always and love the new, much improved, Gradient Tool. Will be nice to see it in action with all the TX8 masking options.
Expecting the final version. I do hope it won't be long.
Thanks Dave
It's important to note that you can only edit the gradient until you add another layer or start drawing, for example.
How do I get access to the blend modes again?
Great tutorial! But I have a question. Possibly someone can help. When you click on the gradient icon you see the adjustment tool. Even if you open up a saved document from the day before, for example, and click on your gradient icon, that tool shows up again. But when I put a gradient into a layer mask on an adjustment layer and I try to get that tool to come back the next day let’s say by clicking on that adjustment layer, the tool is gone. I can no longer edit the gradient. When did the ability to edit that gradient go away in the layer mask? Or am I missing something? Thank you!
Is that the only way to make color gradients? on the tool itself? Can I choose colors first, like before?
never mind... I found out how on my own.
Why can´t I see the handels in the gradient tool on the canvas anymore? They have disappeared for me!
Thanks, Dave! I didn't know about these nice improvements. I'd been hoping some of the gradient tools in Lightroom would make it into Photoshop. Is there any kind of elliptical gradient capability for vignetting or spotlighting?
Not a this time but I think that will come.
Quality of life, yeah. A time saver for sure, one of those things you'll use and never look back.
Dave, when I drag the gradient, the overlay showing the fine tuning does not show up. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Larry
Larry make sure you are using the right gradient tool. There is a classic gradient and the new gradient tool called “Gradient”. In the menu bar for the Gradient tool, look for the drop down and click on it and make sure you Click on Gradient and not Classic Gradient.
I like your style. Getting me to take off the training wheels. Slowly.
How do you get that line that you can move the gradient or feather it?? I can get a gradient but there's no line to toggle with
Make sure you are using the new Gradient Tool and not the Legacy Gradient.
If it isnt working, Click into the 'Adobe Photoshop' menu at the top left of your screen, then go to 'settings', then performance, and in the top right of the menu, make sure the box is clicked that reads, 'Use graphics processor'. If that doesn't work, re-start your computer. If it still isn't working, reset your VNRAM like this: Shut down your Mac.
Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold these four keys together: Option, Command, P, R.
Release the keys after about 20 seconds, during which your Mac might appear to restart. For example, you might hear a startup sound more than once, or see the Apple logo more than once.
When I press G it just selectes the 3D material drop tool but the gradient tool is nowhere to be found, even if I right click the 3D material drop tool
i know this feature just from you thanks a lot sir, but one thing i wants to say the color of the light did not reflect on the fur of the cat, its seem like unusual seen to my part.❤
I am using photoshop 2024. When I use the gradient tool, the color bar does not appear like you do. Does anyone know the solution?
I really wish procreate had this 'drag and drop' linear gradient tool.
THe gradient tools hides the simple linear bar where you can set start and end points or add points which was easily availablep revoiusly. You got to create a gradeint first to access it from the layer - UI failure.
Why can't i use this? for me its still the normal gradient.
Make sure you are using the latest version of Photoshop and make sure you are using Gradient and not Classic Gradient. When the Gradient Tool is active, check the menu bar on the left side, you will find a drop down menu. You will have a choice between Gradient and Classic Gradient. Choose Gradient.
that's it! it was on classic! thanks Dave :)@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
The improved gradient tool is just the ticket for me. I hated the old gradient tool so much that I just stopped using it. With the new tool, and it's ease of use, I'm ok with gradients again.
First comment, love the vids
Glad you like them!
Do not use it if you like crop your canvas and other stuff, the new gradiant moves around if you use them and them crop something around. stay for classic if you do that kind of stuff, and new one if you don't crop your canvas
Thanks for the great tutorial!
