My first exposure to Gamers Nexus and I have to say I'm incredibly impressed. I normally aim for a high density of commentary so that I'm very clearly not just pirating a video but adding to or arguing with it. Here I let a lot more run, but hopefully considering Gamers Nexus' aim of spreading awareness to affected consumers, the original not being monetised and me heavily signposting where to go to see his stuff this is OK.
Steve correctly used "gaslighting", but you weren't able to make the connection because of your jumping around. This was a missed opportunity for you to make an asterisk correction in post production... but you can still make a correction via an unpinned comment. Do it.

The hard R thing was hilarious.
Starting to think Linus is the hard "R" he was thinking it meant.

Bonus: one Brianna Wu didn't understand what the controversy was about, as he had the same understanding.

The hard "r" Linus is referring to is poorly misunderstood. He didn't mean wetard but retawd. This is a common Canadian affliction, so Linus should be forgiven because he is retawded.
26:12 "we are not able to replicate this result" is such a classy and understated way of calling BS.
Linus said the same thing when Total Biscuit critiqued him in the past.
linus bodied himself like a true canadian
Knocked himself right out of his fugly sandals.
At least he hasn’t committed war crimes… yet.
Day of the rake... soon
Without the ability to say sorry as well as most Canadians.
Steve from Gamers Nexus is unfathomably based btw.
If anyone hasn't seen them yet I recommend any of the interviews/travels he does to companies he's violently honest and holds them accountable.
Yeah, first time I saw a video with Steve I thought he was just some moto-biker, turns out the guy is incredibly smart that has great business ethics he grades others and himself by.
Steve is not known as Gamer Jesus for nothing. They are the best in the tech review & journalism sphere.
Obviously he's good, it wasn't his personality that got him to the top
If you come for the Jesus, ya best not miss. Linus learned that the hard way.
We call him Tech Jesus, but yeah. Otherwise, you're right.
Yup. Been watching GN for years now. My only tech review channel I use. Even when they mess-up they properly own it.

Legendary comment.
What's worse when you read the emails from Billet labs it's clear that they provided the 3090 as well as their prototype. So there was no excuse for them to use the 4090 when testing.
My dude needs to rebrand to Linus Theft Tips.
Not even the first time that's happened. I can't think of specific examples, but it's common enough for them to open up a video with
Linus: "We've got X and Y"
Other guy: "Actually we got X and don't know where Y is...we can try looking for..."
Linus: "Let's use Z YOLO"
Edit: pretty much any video that involves grinding or sawing falls under this scenario.
@@dycedargselderbrother5353 That is such a bad standard to have. How can you try to even get proper results when trying and testing if you don't use the proper tools and equipment.
But tbh I'm not surprised. Watching GN post these videos made me remember why I unsubbed Linus many years ago.
@@msSweety I think the problem is that LTT is trying to transition from a goofy techtainment channel to industry standard testing authority without really thinking about what that means in terms of establishing proper testing and validation. They've spent a lot of money on equipment and facilities, eight figures I believe, but they don't have the expertise or commitment to test correctly. The situation is kind of like buying a Les Paul guitar and giving it to someone who once took a music class in college.
Linus just had to go bigger, he couldn't help himself, which speaks volumes.
Linus "Adblock is piracy" Tech Tips. 😂

I like how Harmful pronunces Linus like Guinness.
That Linus Tech Tip excuse at the beginning made me question if DSPGaming wrote that excuse.
Linus "This is a bad product, we don't want anyone to buy it." then they themselves put it on auction!
The irony!
Steve at Gamers Nexus absolutely has pride in his work and the highest standards. The info can sometimes get a bit dry, but thorough and fair to the upmost degree.
I appreciate his benchmarks solely for actually reading off the graphs and results instead of what Linus or Jayz does where the graphs are 'shown' with music playing. As someone who usually listens to them in the background (at work) it's so useful.
Normally I wouldn't be into all the E-Drama but Harmful's ramblings are far more engaging and insightful that I can finally get invested in it all.
My take on on all of this is Linus missed the biggest point here: how credible GN is actually. Because GN has a slightly under 2m followers, compared to LTT's 15+m subscribers (not counting other channels), he thought the GN's video will not have deep impact on him and that "his" community will side with him. He was WRONG. GN is very respected in the tech industry. This a good example that even a relatively small channel can have a great impact on the community if it's respected.
Props to gamer nexus. I didn't understand the drama but this makes sense.
The Billet Labs drama is just straight up evil and shouldn't be hard to understand.
@@Thunderstyle7 sometimes you need someone to pause a video every 30 seconds to make a comment for it to really sink in.
Yeah its very esoteric. Even someone as autistic as HO has a hard time keeping up.
So the scathing nature of the test errors is lost on most people watching it. But it is really, really bad.
Not locking a CPU when testing to frequencies and voltages for example fluctuates the heatload it puts out. If you're then testing coolers and the test-to-test load changes, it invalidates the test. Which is why they sometimes also use test-controlled dummy loads.
@@The_Noticer. actually helpful, thanks. It was always pretty easy to tell GN was going to have the upperhand on tech knowledge cause og their equipment and what they choosr to review. I don't think I evet recall seeing a thorough PSU from LTT even though that is probably the most crucial part in a PC to have be resilient.
@@The_Noticer. So it’s basically it would be like instead of “we tested these 6 brake pads to see which one will stop our car fastest at 60 MPH” they did “we put 6 different brake pads on 6 different cars, and we’ll see which brake pads stop a moving car fastest?” Something like that?
24:51 definitely yes, Steve knows his shit and his team is also very competent. GN is the best channel for pc hardware enthusiasts imo.
I watch GN for hardware and Digital Foundry for software. Unless i'm truly on the fence about a game or item, I don't bother looking elsewhere
And, yes, to answer the question posed in the video just after this timestamp, Steve seems to take pride in his work; he cares very much about getting it right and doing well by his audience.
Linus clearly did nothing wrong.
I know this because I watched the apology video where they promise to do better while making it incredibly unclear what they're even accused of.
But but didn't you laugh when he jokingly shilled his own merch store in the apology that was previously monetized and behind a paywall before that? so funny, so zany.
words are worthless without real actions. Let´s wait and see
He didn't do anything wrong and he'll never do it again.
yeah, that was disgusting..just shows were his real loyalties lay..the bottom line, Gamer Nexus was a professional critique of his corp and their actions, his response however is anything but professional, whinging teen pout more like, I'm afraid he has to go..its the only way LTT can survive now and have any credibility.@@SomeQuackingDuck
@@SomeQuackingDuck - "And there goes the re-wall!" At this point, Linus is just as bad.
At 25 minutes you ask if Steve from Gamers Nexus takes pride in his work, that it seems like it does. I'd say so. He has a lot of respect and fans/subscibers of the channel usually call him Tech Jesus, for his hair and ofc his expertise.
He's one of those few people who can complain about something, but pull off a better standard at the same time. Their reviews in general feel pretty rigorous, but fair, especially when it came to prebuilts and cooling options.
Gamer's Nexus is over my head with some of the tech talk stuff, however.... They do an excellent job of explaining (after the techie talk stuff), "This is why you don't want to buy this component for this type of computer" in their summations. Great channel and a must watch when you go to buy your next PC. Thanks for the great reaction video, HO. ^_^
Yeah, they're very technical but you can trust their conclusions BECAUSE they go into all that detail. And if they do make a mistake, they'll do everything they reasonably can to fix it and make SURE it won't happen again. They didn't beat up on LMG because they make mistakes, they did it because LMG doesn't seem to care about their mistakes anymore.
Mistaking x8 pci-e bus for x16 isn’t nitpicking, it’s critical in this case. If you’re upgrading an old system with a new gpu and your motherboard only supports PCIe gen 3 you’ll get a huge performance hit with an x8 card but not with an x16.
1:03:57 "I'm really excited about what the future will hold" he's gonna retire and wash his hands of the content mill he turned his company into and let the new Chinese CEO run it however he wants. The bit about reading the room wrong was a non sequitur
The power supply is the ONE component that can kill everything else in the case in seconds. Therefore it is the ONE component you NEVER cheap out on.
Linus misremembering/completely misunderstanding the actual meaning of "THE HARD R" and then the freeze-frame of Luke just silently closing his eyes and thinking 'this is live , FUCK, this is a LIVE STREAM.' ... and then the grin at the 4th wall when he realises he just saved the company...again.
Truly one of the Linus moments of all time.
As for the Pwnage mouse....I believe anyone who has ever used a mouse or looked at a television or monitor with film over the front fascia of it, would use that product once, notice that the feet are a little scratchy, and then IMMEDIATELY start picking at the feet of the mouse for anything that shouldn't be there.
This proves they're rushing their videos so much that the staff barely have time to look at the product while they're reviewing it. That's a phenomenal amount of pressure on the staff, and it must be so unfulfilling for them to have to keep working knowing this is happening and they're powerless to stop it. They even published a video on their own channel interviewing the staff saying this.
12:18 even if you're not into computers, gamers nexus is a great channel and the dude is super authentic. He strongly focuses on quality over quantity.
He'll give everyone 100 chances to do the right thing and he'll delay releases of stuff to make sure it's correct.
Sure it can be a bummer you don't get the video when you want it, but he's doing it right.
I much prefer his model to most [all] other pc reviewers.
I like GN. Steve is a real good dude. 👍
And his crew rocks.
Major focus of his company is QA. Validation and testing methods are key. And he's invested a ton into his company to get it right, accurate and relevant.

Soft R would be the way Jonathan Woss would say it... Weetawd
That Linus "Yikes!" face is already a meme. Having GN come after you is like having 60 Minutes come after you. Whatever you were doing, you probably shouldn't ought to have been doing. The sad thing is that these men were friends. They have each other's back. When Linus's YT channel got hijacked, it was Steve who called to warn him what was happening in the middle of the night. Steve didn’t have to do that. Heck, he was probably scraping videos when this went down. But he still did the right thing and made the call. Steve actually cares. What he hates is what Linus has let happen to his organization. And Steve is right. This is damning stuff.
"Why would you lie when you know it's not true"
I'm pretty sure that's the definition of lying.
You know what I mean!
Gamers Nexus is a tech channel. They absolutely put in a lot of effort to be accurate and dig into the details. Pride and integrity are a big deal to GN and is why many of us watch them. GN is a trusted channel and has taken on industry groups MUCH larger when they wont own up to their shady crap. If Steve the Tech Jesus says it is so, it is so.
the number of good channels I discovered because of this drama is amazing!! you sir have a nice personality, subbed!
I've always liked Steve from GN, actually bought a card he recommended back in the day, it performed exemplary. He's given me no reason to doubt his expertise in tech.
25:10 Steve is ABSOLUTELY proud of his work. The Linus video isn't his first, he REAMED actual manufacturers for making shitty products and lying.
What is worse is the Billet Water block CAME WITH A 3090! The company sent the card with a water block.the video card outright disappeared!
Fucking whaaat! That's never mentioned anywhere?!
Since you seem to like how GN presentation style of always pairing their claim with proof ... it's their style. There is saying "Steve always bring the receipt", and he's famous for it.
I know it's not intentional, but this actually really good as a "this is what a good callout video looks like" after the supermega stuff.
Gamer Nexus critique of LTT was a masterclass on how to use someones BS and beat them over the head with it and LTT have only themselves to blame as they slagged off GN first..and lost any moral augment to where GN should have been contacted LTT first, when someone punches you in the face you don't ask permission to punch back..
He's called "tech jesus" for a reason
yes... because of his hair... not because he calls out other youtubers BS
I'd say GN definitely take pride in their work. They earned my respect when they went as far as building a Schlieren setup to do flow visualisation for fans and heatsinks. That was a while back and I've not kept up with what they did or didn't end up doing with that, but it looked pretty cool and brought back fond memories of capturing validation data for a project I worked on.
What actually impressed me is that they went to the trouble of reading up on it and trying to understand what they're looking at as much as possible. Can't fault them for that.
Steve (the owner / host) of GN is not just prideful in the accuracy and journalistic integrity of his work, he's a *fierce* advocate of the consumer. That's why he went after LTT some years back about their "Just Trust Me Bro" warranty backpack warranty (there was ostensibly no warranty, just something to the amount of "Contact us and we'll take care of it.") Steve is not afraid to burn bridges if he knows a company is screwing over the consumer. (Which is dangerous because then that means that companies may not send him products to review prior to launch which would put him at a severe disadvantage in the content cycle.) But he's also fair and will praise a company where relevant. You can tell he genuinely wants a world where everyone wins, and that he knows that sometimes requires calling out bad behavior. GN is so great at countering future points / criticism because that's a natural side-effect of considering things from every angle-a necessary part of proper due diligence. Their objectivity is unparalleled in this space.
You should watch GN's videos of Steve going after Newegg, to the point that he did a gigachad move and publicly stated "We'll be on your doorstep on this date. If you want to talk, that will be the time." after posting a scathing review of GN's experience dealing with Newegg support. Another good watch is the gigabyte "exploding" power supply, or the NZXT case / riser that would catch on fire.
There are numerous situations where GN has gone for the throat with an avalanche of data. It's usually as you see here. At first it's just data letting the consumer know what's up and giving the company a chance to respond. They hold the punch because they want to give companies a chance to make things right (knowing that backing a wounded animal into a corner doesn't help the consumer). But if the company responds poorly, then Steve goes "gloves off" and systematically dismantles anything the company did and could have said.
The tl;dr is you never want GN to make you their target. Steve/GN is the furthest thing from reactionary (unlike Linus). To be GN's target means you have made such obvious, egregious errors such that Steve sees you as a threat to the consumer and has the data to back it up. The first video is just a warning shot, the tip of the iceberg. If you respond poorly, GN will throw the whole thing at you. And so far, GN hasn't missed. (And even if they were to miss, they fail in the most absolutely graceful way imaginable.)
PS: The backpack thing Linus was able to sweep under the rug because of his cult of personality. While Steve is big on proper warranties and made some jabs by increasing his own, super long warranty on his own bestseller (a "mod mat") and making it retroactive, it ultimately isn't something that you can easily throw data at. This time, LTT didn't just step into Steve's arena, they stepped into his reality. GN exists in the realm of "hardware benchmarks". Nobody does it as well because that's GN's niche that Steve's been honing for over a decade. I personally think it was stupid for LTT to branch into trying to do 'GN but better', because they'd never find someone as passionate as he is.
As a techie myself, everything Steve (Gamers Nexus) is saying is 100% accurate.
If you like GamersNexus so far dig your heels into more of his content, maybe also der8uer. In that space of engineering level of tech revieving, those two are my goto as they seem to be the most unbribebeable people to find, constantly checking their own footing and telling it straight if they have fucked up. Their methodology for testing and reviewing is as objective as it gets and especially gamersnexus has uncovered more than one big bad by even bigger players clear and undisputable.
GN is awesome he is one of the most thorough reviewers I have ever seen. He uses really good logic and is a great apologetic.
How to take the company you took years to build up from nothing into a multimillion dollar behemoth and destroy it's reputation (and yours) in a matter of days. Ask Linus. He's now an expert on it.
"casual use of hard r?" has this fake gamerboy ever actually played counter strike?
No
It's funny but it seems like they really do have a bunch of Terence & Philip's testing everything over there at LMG in Canada 😂
There even a newer scandal with LMG Linus Media Group.
They had a female employee, very cute girl, that got sexually harassed and bullied to the point where she literally cut open her own leg just to get an excuse not to go to work anymore, they made her comment on Onlyfans, talk about her sex life and stuff like that....
This LMG drama is amazing.
I'm betting tho it's Anthony dude who was main one doing this, dude is supposedly trans now which is very interesting judging by how other trans sexually harass women in general
@@just_your_localguard9612 I don't think Anthony is a person that is harassing other people, he looks very nice. SAD that he is such a troubled and misguided person though, all he had to do was change his diet and get rid of the fat, instead he got brainwashed to think he can become a woman, really sad story, I really liked him and his content. He was the only one at LMG who actually knew what he was talking about in terms of Tech and Operating Systems.
>Imagine your credibility as a sausage...
Ok now you're speaking my language.
For me, that Pwnage mouse with the protective tape, that was it. The moment I realized LTT was a bunch of half-assed idiots. Now imagine this potential situation, you start your own company, invest all you have in some product and then LTT absolutely destroys it in review because the forgot to remove some piece of tape or packaging. They are clearly capable of something like that, or they were. 😁
Right, how anyone is this stupid is beyond me
Linus could have taken Steve's criticism to heart, admit that he made mistakes, and own up to them...but nope he just had to be the Prince of Canada: doubling down, and make the whole matter into a dramatic one.
Like he was writing a book called "Waagh!"
22:10 rebar is opening up other system memory to act as a cache for your video memory. It opens up your motherboard to allow this type of memory sharing etc. Supposed to help with video quality in demanding environments...
I'm pretty positive Linus did not even watch the video.
If he uploaded everything with saving costs and profit in mind he's not going to care what anyone else has to say.
Because he ultimately didn't care either.
Missing massive errors like that calls into question even the basic expertise of the employees. A simple sanity check should be almost automatic to catch when you are off by 10X or more. How do you even look at a chart like that and say "Yup, that's good?" And it happens again and again.
24:20 This is not the first video of this kind from him. Steve did many videos where he destroyed people and companys, the last one was Artesian Builds. Because of this he has a extremely good reputation in the community. If he does a video about someone, than shits on fire.
Linus and ltt pooped on their sponsor's and their own competitors multiple times before half walking it back when getting called out for it. Ltt is dodgy
Linus only reached out to Billet labs after GN's video btw.
Edit: oh you're already addressing this in the video, i'm only at 59 minutes in when i commented.
Linus' response video: bro I fkn hate computers
Crazy seeing this whole thing actually break out of just the tech sphere. Gamers Nexus is great, though. Been watching for years and love the desk mat I bought from his store
Imagine using journalism as an ethical higher ground.
journalism used to be a higher ground, however over the last 25/30 years it has really been a race downhill to opinion, agenda & politicalization. (not saying is used to be pure, but it was significantly better).
The nickname that Steve from Gamers Nexus has in the techie community is "Tech Jesus".
In the tech community Gamers Nexus is very highly regarded; whereas LTT is seen as more of a joke than anything else.
And yes, he is that charitable. Except of course when there is no redeeming facts to be found.
You might want to look at his takedown of NewEgg for instance or of Artisinal Design.
Wanna bet they tested that Billet Labs™ cooling block off screen and made a killing by sharing the proper results to their 'sponsors' who eventually bought it at the auction because they knew what to look for from that botched review video. There is no other reason they would be stalling so blatantly.
I bet Gamers Nexus will keep their eyes peeled when a similar design hits the market.
"Why would you lie, when you know it's not true?" Well, but that's how lies work. The real question is: "Why would you lie, when your lie can't hold even a few hours?".
I'm betting the guys who make that 100 mill offer LTT are breathing a huge sigh of relief now...they really dodged the bullet there.. lol

Holy shit they sold it. Never touching Linus for anything.
08:58 Linus never saw that video. The only way it could be made was for him to promise that he isn't allowed to watch it.
It's not some grand strategy to excuse the lack of quality through transparency. It just so happens that the opinions of employees that came out very strongly alluded to quality suffering at the expense of quantity.
LMG is liable for an enormous lawsuit over the auctioned prototype device. Possibly also industrial espionage criminal negligence charges could be filed against them.
That is all before you realize the head of HR being Linus' tiger wife.

bro you need to do more videos on this drama so good
That leads to accountability, any packages that come in should be scanned by receiving and secured. I ran a retail store for 8-1/2 years, video cards, cell phones, other valuable items were locked in a cage until sold or shipped out
Linus single handedly turned his tech youtube channel into a sausage factory.
that would be inappropriate with the SA accusations going on ;-)
I could listen to you comment on these topics forever. Brings me back to the Candid videos.
Even in passive mode, a skinny (worst case) 280mm rad should be outperforming the stock cooler, EXCEPT if the fins are too dense (optimised for high performance with fans) and/or it's mounted vertically. Either of those is enough to kill free convection and thus the rad's passive performance.
Bouth him and Hrdware Unboxed are, in my own opinion anyway, the most professional, detailed and objective reviwes of new hardware you have on UA-cam, I also follow JaysTowCents and he is also very good at it, but not so keen of the small details so yeah, Gamers Nexus is one of the best places to get good, solid reliable info about hardware. I saw only a few ltt videos and ended up not following them cause, I got a felling of "something isnt right", I cant explain what it was, but it's a gut felling I have about some things people say, the way they say it, sounds too good to be true, if that makes any sence.
I once bought a 2.1 sound system. There was a sheet of plastic covering the hole behind the subwoofer. I didn't remove it after installing. When i tested the sound system, the sound was buzzing. I thought i had bad luck. Then i spoted the sheet and everything was ok. BUT IM NOT A REVIEWER.
58:00 he's gonna "auction" it later.
I like Linus. And was recently commending him for turning down the 100mil offer that I prob would've taken and fucked off with.
But this "takedown" vid or rather call out was masterfully made. I think Linus knew the quality of their video were dropping and that's why he gave up the chair as ceo a while back. But it seems it was slightly too late.
I do think lmg will recover and improve but this is exactly what I think he was trying to cut off before it happened.
I wish them the best and moreover think Gamer Nexus deserves all the accolades for this perfect video.
I have huge doubts about the alleged $100M offer, LTT is so incredibly mismanaged and has been for years that anyone willing to buy it would have to do quite a big cleanup job, to the point the only people left would be whoever is camera facing and a few regard wranglers for Linus himself.
This shit comes up real quick in audits before buying, even if there was an initial $100mil offer, after checking through the company the group interested either took off running or changed their currency offer from American to Zimbabwe dollars.
@SomeQuackingDuck it's a Canadian company right? So it's not real dollars anyways. I figured one of the main reasons he wouldn't go for it is they prob tax him to hell.
@@SomeQuackingDuck wish that would've said " a few hard R wranglers for Linus himself".
