Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

Doing your crying in the night to avoid crying in the day is a genius move, tho
I've seen the phrase unironically repeated twice, tho. One when grandma died, my cousins had all cried when it happened but not at the funeral. One when a buddy left the city for work opportunities. His mother didn't cry and said "we did our crying last night"
If you can control when you're crying, then your problems are small and manageable.

7:31 is one of the show's most heartwarming moments.
I love how he *realizes* why he's called "Captain Cool"... then goes right back to defrosting.
This episode just goes to show that some ppl just don't grow up and continue to either be bullies or the good ppl they were.

Honestly though the group of people he talked to could have been less awkward and just had a conversation with him instead of acting like they had no idea why he was even there. It's fine if they don't remember him, but they could still ask the basic questions like how are you how have you been what's new etc...
Yeah, but the writers had them act the way they did because this program might as well be called Dunk on Monk!
In 2023 Cal has 33K undergrads or about 8000 per class, not sure what it was in 1984 but that’s a big university. Everyone wouldn’t remember everyone! I don’t even remember all 270 in my HS graduating class!

My 55 year old HS reunion is in July. I probably won’t go because I’m in Hawaii and going to Cleveland in July is kinda yeah no 😅

@@l.a.3479 good point, last time I was in CLE in summer it was 95 degrees with 98% humidity. Last time I was there in winter it was 10 degrees and a blizzard. Yucky either way.
