      Driven by madness Well I installed it and noticed that the fans would kick on around 190-195 and not the claimed 180-185. Yesterday I spent the day replacing my radiator with a Koyo after thinking maybe buying a cheap eBay radiator wasn’t the best thing. I tried relocating the relay kit the fan kit to where RB recommends but the hose is too short and you have to buy some adapters to make it work on the bigger hose. So I followed that hose to the other side where it would work better. In doing so I broke off both of the electrical connections on the sensor as I was fitting it into place and tightening down the clamps. Going to try and solder the wires back on to what little connections I have left and hopefully that works. If not then I’m out $100 and I’ll have to order another or figure something else out.

    This mod worked for me, sometimes you need a drive cycle for it to start at the right time.... On the other hand, it caused my fans to run most of the times which resulted in a fan connection to melt, stooped the fan, engine overheated and coolant seals failure.
    .. currently in the middle of a rebuild due to it.... Don't blame the kit, I didn't have the right monitoring. But definitely passes a bill on fan life span...

  • @THBandit6

    The hose you've installed the adaptor in is the return pipe to the water bottle. Do a Google search for "RX8 Racing Beat water sensor guide", and on their page there is a link to an installation guide. Use this guide to locate the hose you should be using for an accurate coolant temperature reading. Enjoy!

    • @cc3775
      @cc3775 6 років тому +1

      THBandit6 why would they tell you to install it there then? Do you have one installed on the heater hose?

    • @THBandit6
      @THBandit6 6 років тому +2

      This hose doesn't have a constant flow of coolant through it. The tank is the highest point water can collect in the engine bay. If it wasn't then having the coolant level markings on the side would be pointless. Some companies utilise the heater hose (like Racing Beat), others provide a coupler that you'd fit in the radiator hose itself (Essex Rotary). These are preferable positions as you constantly have water flowing through the cabin heater core, and will have fluid flowing through the main radiator hoses once the thermostat opens, so once warm you'd then get an accurate reading from the latter. 200F isn't overly hot unless that's when you're cruising at a stead fast pace on a highway, in which case I'd expect it to be lower depending on ambient temps. 200F around town or when press on on backroads isn't unheard of. For reference i have a RB one installed in their recommended location which works flawlessly.

    • @cc3775
      @cc3775 6 років тому +1

      THBandit6 I just tried to install my fan kit on the heater hose but the included adapter is too small. The heater hose is a larger diameter and won’t work. You might be able to buy the RB adapter and screw the relay sensor into it.

    • @Drivenbymadness
      @Drivenbymadness  6 років тому +3

      Like Christopher said, why would they recoomend that position if it's know not to have a constant coolant flow... I'll try and relocate it on another hose, preferrebly the racing beat one.

  • @callummackie9040
    @callummackie9040 6 років тому +6

    Make sure you don’t have any coolant leaks anywhere and fill up the resivoir with more coolant if low... if you think it’s the thermostat take it out put the kettle on grab a bowl and a thermometer and pour the hot water into the bowl with the thermometer and drop the thermostat in. Should be around 82 degrees Celsius when that opens...

    • @evielcastroazamar2137
      @evielcastroazamar2137 6 років тому +5

      Not the thermostat. On his first drive it should have overheated already. See THBandit6 response below to know the real reason why it was like that

    Just do a ECU remap to activate fan at lower RPM. In my JDM spec, low speed kinds in 95c and high speed starts at 100c. That’s way too hot. I’ve remapped it to 85c for low speed and 92c for high speed. No wires cutting or what so ever. Clean like stock.

    • @Drivenbymadness

    I think that hose is just for return of coolant when it goes past a certain level within the system. It will be bone dry unless you drive aggressively imo. That's the point of the coolant "OVERFLOW" bottle, no? So that coolant that's overflowing from the system could return to the bottle and back into the system via that hose and via the hose at the bottom of the bottle.

    • @Drivenbymadness
      @Drivenbymadness  6 років тому +2

      Whoooo there cowboy :D I know the role of that hose, but the instructions of the kit say to install it there, and the people that installed it on that hose actually made the kit work... So the question is, why isn't it working on mine. That's what i'll troubleshot in the next video :) Otherwise, i would've installed it on the racing beat hose position, which would've made more sense.
