My English grandma said it's how you use up leftover cake cookies fruit that's around. Milk cream whipped up the only thing we made was the custard or pudding. Great for Friday night dessert. Just layer it a glass bowl show it off. Oh a touch of jam too.

Hi Bonita, I love your show and so glad I found it, my husband and I grew up in Newfoundland on all the recipes you make but most of the family that we had that made it is dead and gone and it's nice to have a place to get all their old recipes!
We were wondering though if you knows about a particular dessert we both remember from our childhood that we don't know the name of. It would be amazing if you knew it..I've tried a few recipes I found online but they're not the same or I'm just not making it right. Basically they were fluffy pink squares, and I believe the major ingredients are jello and coconut. If you don't know perhaps someone in the comments will. We're both from New World Island/Twillingate and this was a popular dessert around Christmas time.

Hi Sabrina: Thank you for your message and I'm glad you found our channel, I love reaching out to as many Newfoundlanders and of course any other culture that would like to know our cultural foods. The recipe you are talking about is Marshmallow Squares, and they are made with Gelatine I don't have a recipe for that but maybe I can make that dessert for Valentines. Have a Happy New Year! :) Bonita

I just seen your message, no that don't make you old it makes you wise. :) I did't take any formal trading for cooking or baking, but I worked in a bakery in the early 80"s and I started cooking when I was twelve. My love for cooking and keeping our Traditional Newfoundland recipes alive bought me to starting my own cooking channel and having recipes available for my kids, grandkids and of course anyone that would like to use them. Have a lovely day :) Bonita
